Joe Humphreys' version of the classic American Pheasant Tail nymph. An easy-to-tie and super effective fly pattern that imitates any number of mayfly nymphs. This differs from most standard PT nymph patterns as peacock herl is not used for the thorax and the legs are partridge fibers instead of the standard pheasant tail tips. This pattern can be tied with or without the head cement or hard epoxy over the wingcase.
Hook: #12-18 nymph
Thread: Black
Tail: Pheasant tail fibers
Rib: Brass or copper wire, small
Body: Pheasant tail fibers
Thorax: Brown dubbing
Wingcase: Brown hen fibers
Legs: Partridge fibers
This is my third in a series of nymph patterns that Joe Humphreys is credited with. I plan to tie all seven of Joe's nymph patterns listed in the Federation of Fly Fishers Pattern Encyclopedia.
