Hi Martyn . Nice crab pattern. Most of the crabs I tye are a pain in the buttocks! This looks a lot easier to make. Think's for sharing your abilities and God bless. Walter

Good video, and nice pattern. Thanks for pointing out the purpose of the fly's body is to let the sand below show through, making it universal.

Great looking crab Martyn. Lots of steps, but the end results are well worth the effort. The leg puller is killer! I don't know how many of the stainless wire ones I've broken. I'm going to make a couple of the needle and mono ones this evening.

Great fly and very neat tying, too. Where did you get that cauterizing tool?

Just my local fly shop, it's called a fly tier's hot tip

The tubing looks very similar to E-Z Body. Is the latter a good substitute? It is certainly easier to come by. Michael Nowak

Michael Nowak I'm not sure if you'll get the shape from E-Z body because of the amount of expansion but you could try it. It's worth looking on ebay for expanding cable sleeving too Happy new year Martyn

If you are in the UK when you replied, surely it's time for you to go to bed. Hogmanay celebrations, notwithstanding. I live in the US, so I should be able to get the Flexo tubing in 1/8 inch w/o too much difficulty. On appearance, this fly does not seem to stand out from the multitude of other crab fly patterns. But the guides on Alphonse swear by it, and I have had really good success with it. looking at it, I thought the fly would be nigh on impossible to tie, until I saw you video instructions, so thanks so much. Michael Nowak I'm actually in Japan at the moment so it's mid-day. It's a much easier fly than a lot of people think, happy tying.

Do you always tie them with the orange bead?
@FlickingFeathers
@FlickingFeathers 4 года назад
Almost always, although a matte finish similar to the overall colour is also good

What's the name of the tool you are using to cut the tube at the hookeye? Where can I buy this?
@FlickingFeathers
@FlickingFeathers 5 лет назад
It's a cauterizing tool, but is sold as the fly tyer's hot tip. most fly shops will be able to get it if you ask them.

I'm tying the Flexocrab since 2016, the needle and the use of a cauterizing tool makes it much easier for me. Thank You!
