Definitely gonna tie some of these up. Here in the South we have a bunch of crawdads. But, primarily I'm really excited about the mechanics of the fly. Got my creative juices flowin' Oh, and a really great name!

This fly is next fly up in my vice. In Scandinavia we have crayfish in every pond and every river. All with small black eyes. No creepy yellow fish eyed stair like in Montana waters. Your chatty videos are great. Please don't change.

Good for Jeremy, a Musky will take any trout ever made in a street fight any day. Now that we've got the important stuff out of the way, Merry Christmas and thanks for this video, it's a neat fly. Keep the good stuff coming.

Great tie! Been curious for a while how it was done. I’m gonna place an order after the new year and I’ll have to get a few goodies to spin a few up! Your streamer patterns are the most enjoyable for me to tie. Merry Christmas to all of the slide inn crew!

If you put the B10S in the jaws the normal way and heat the eye end, it is easy to bend with small needle nose pliers. That's what I do when I bend the size 2 B10S front hook for the Swimming Jimmy.

I love it. I was wanting a new crawdad pattern for bass, I think I've found it. I tie stuff like this on Varivas saltwater super match... similar style to B10S, but slightly lighter wire and dangerously sharp (just ask my left thumb). Just not sure I'll be bending the hook shank with my vise jaws! YIKES!

Is this a pattern where I am stripping and twitching the fly after it touches the bottom? Wouldn’t you want both hooks pointing up as it swims? Wouldn’t the front hook pointed would dig into the dirt or get caught on vegetation more? It doesn’t swim well if the fly is made with both hooks up?
@TheSlideinn
@TheSlideinn 2 года назад
Terr I seldom try to fish on bottom. I will slow jig the fly but I don't try to crawl it along the bottom. Trout are ambushers so I prefer to have my flies above them, that being said there would be no problem inverting the front hook to get a more weedless fly. Kelly

Great pattern! We’re single hook barbless out here, would it make sense to sub the front hook with a shank given the curve on the rear hook? Also, I’m always looking for more uses for your belly bumper hooks - this looks like a strong candidate on the rear hook!
@TheSlideinn
@TheSlideinn 2 года назад
Tavis, Generally I always lose the back hook but they tbone this thing so hard I'm pretty sure you could sub either hook and the bumper might be a great sub, let me know how it turns out. Kelly

No doubt the movements great but what you’re saying about how crawfish swim isn’t consistent with what I’ve observed. I Enjoy your vids, thanks for doing them and sharing your extensive knowledge.

Kelly.. when are we going to get a update on the dam malfunction ?
@TheSlideinn
@TheSlideinn 2 года назад
They were able to repair Hebgen and bring water levels back up approximately 36 hours after the Dam malfunctioned and well over 90% of our spawning beds survived the ordeal with minimal fish mortality from Quake Lake down to Ennis Lake.

Why did you choose these unrealistic eyes?
@TheSlideinn
@TheSlideinn 2 года назад
The purpose of the eyes on this pattern is just to help it have a jiggy action, and to help get the fly down. If you wanted to add some more realistic eyes I would just drop a set of mono eyes in when you are first tying in the sili legs. I would still keep those dumbbell eyes in there as well to not play with the action of the fly however. -Jeremy

I can see somewhat, how the conventional tackle anglers benefit. From having that 'soft plastic' industry. To simply crank out their soft plastic creature style and other soft plastic designs. Providing those anglers with access to lots of colors to test. To converge upon what is most suitable to their lake. And they get to Texas rig, or Carolina rig those. Using their own choice of weight. A fly fishing angler. Would perhaps never describe what they do. As flipping. But if you handed this to a conventional tackle angler. They'd know exactly what to do with the fly. And you'd find they'd flip it at close range. Around banks, shorelines and shallows. Without needing to cast a mile. In other words, the spinning tackle angler (well, baitcaster say). Would never attempt to throw a craw daddy. As one would hurl a jerk bait (over long distance). Yet, for some reason in fly fishing. It all became 'locked' onto that one idea. Throw it long. Why?
