This is the only RU-vid Channel I watch for tying. Davie you are a genius at tying. I really appreciate getting to see your videos. I don't think anyone comes close to making the perfect fly tying video. Clear, clean, you can see everything and your technique is Ultra-Proffesional. Thanks again!!!

I waited patiently and you eventually said it! "It's a really simple fly to tie". No Davie, it isn't, it's horrendously difficult, you just make it look simple. I enjoy watching all your videos but I'm only capable of tying a small percentage of them. It's a genuine pleasure watching you work :)

Hi Dave, spent hours watching your videos which are a great inspiration and help to my learning, so thanks for sharing. There's a great deal of satisfaction to catching a fish on home tied flies, it's added another dimension to my fishing. Would love to see some updated versions of the Gammarus.

Very Nice and great timing. They are what is happening on this side of the pond up in my neck. Thanks as always.

I have an old Bic pen tube I've been using for decades! Least expensive tool I have and it works better than even the half hitch tool because it is plastic and hurts no materials!

I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you. And though I don't tie salmon flies, or fish for salmon, I'll be looking forward to seeing the salmon flies you decide to do this winter. Mike

Thx Davie for your great videos! I am learning so much to improve my fly tying. Question: What is your favorite "all around" caddis pattern? (dry)
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 7 лет назад
Hi Wilderness Academy, My favourite would be the Cdc Bubble Caddis, though the Sedge/Hedgehog would be very close behind it..I'm glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for the kind words... All the very best Davie...

Davie McPhail - Thank you sincerely for your reply. I am going to tie both of your caddis recommendations, watching your videos as a tutorial. Winter is a good time to tie here in the state of Maine. The snow is falling and our lakes, ponds, rivers and streams are mostly frozen. Blessings to you in 2017.

Dearest Mr. McPhail my husband is a great fan of your videos . He has been looking for instruction on the Deer hair Bread Crust fly with foam indecator and was curious if you tye this fly or have a video on it . Thank you Adriene

Hi Adriene, I'm glad your husband enjoys the videos but I'm sorry to say I don't have a video on a Deer Hair Bread Fly though when I was a fishery manager many years ago I did tye a couple for one of the regulars that fished our coarse pond for the carp but he never caught on it but he did miss a couple.. It was just a ball of white deer hair trimmed flat underneath though I would add a little brown on the back of the hook to give the impression of the crust.. All the very best Davie

Great looking little caddis mate. You can tie them in other colours and sizes? Enjoyed the bomber salmon fly very much. Hope to see more salmon flies my friend. Best Regards, Ken {OleBear}

Hi Ken, No worries about tying some salmon flies as I do have a few planned for over the winter months..I have tyed a few different colours of the Skating Caddis from natural through to black, natural and the cinnamon have been the most productive so far.. All the very best Davie

I noticed that in the goddards caddis fly, if u trim it ALOT from sides and the top it works way way better, do you think it would be ok to trim the back of the caddis to the shape (from this video), and the top of it - to be less "tall" ?

Hi Krzysiek Stefanczyk, Yes if you feel this would improve this pattern then I would, as adding your own touch to any pattern certainly will give you more faith in it... All the very best Davie

Davie, if I may, I've wondered for a while why you opt for Rabbit dub/fur for your Dry Flies? There are so many better dubbing suited for Dry Flies other than the very absorbent rabbit. I mean no disrespect, your videos and patterns are much appreciated, I only ask out of curiosity. Thank you. - Justin A.

Hi Justin, I do agree with you there's many good dry fly dubbings that could be used but I've used rabbit for as long as I have been tying and found it works really well though I do waterproof it well..I do mention at times in the videos that any good dry fly dubbing would be a good choice as well..I do appreciate your message and please say what you are feeling as you are not being disrespectful.. All the very best Davie
