In my advanced years, I am quite sure I will never attempt to tie such a fly - but I greatly appreciate the beauty and artistry of your efforts. This was sheer magic to watch!
Loved to see you tying this pattern from my home land!! It was made by Belarmino Martinez, one of the best salmon fly tiers from Asturias (North of Spain). Sometimes was tied with a light pink throat wound before the wing is tied as well. Excellent tying as always!
I like the color combination of the pattern I just have to go with a single hook and a smaller size. For some reason Rainbow and Brook trout love orange and gold in places I fish. I also use an orange or chartreuse dye to color the tips of natural Squirrel tail. It works on white feathers too. You can use any color you want. You can add dots with a straight pin in colors you like. If you don’t have the materials or colors you need it gives you a way to make them. The trout don’t seem to care if you cheat on using the wrong materials. ✨🙂✨
5:39 Mr Davie, I'm really taken back with your fly tying prowess, but there's one thing I really don't understand. You're constantly talking about adding wax to the tying thread, and I really don't understand it. Are you using unwaxed thread or something? I've been watching you for many years and haven't understood this practice... I'm having a hard time trying to find some tying wax in my area to even try it out and see if what you do will aid me in my tying adventures.... Would love to hear your thoughts on the matter...
Hi @sasquatch7foot145, Using a little wax on the thread especially when tying on the hackle and the wing will give you more grip, strength and will help keep the thread turns tight even if you let the bobbin go, though I still prefer to hang onto my bobbin holder to keep the thread turns tight...The wax I use comes from a company called Veniards who are a wholesaler so anyone that stocks their materials should be able to help you get some...I did make a video on how I use it so I have attached a link for you to see.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IN4N92G14Xg.html All the very best Davie..
Salmon flies are so beautiful. The company I work for was founded by Col Monel. A salmon fly was named for him. I think it was a dry? Hope you are feeling better. ATB.
lovely fly Davie,we will be fishing small flies in the west of Ireland from now on,12`s,14`s and smaller, would you replace the 2 hackles with 2 throat hackles, thanks again for all your help, much appreciated
Hi Barry, I do like to tye the smaller flies with a throat hackle like you said as it gives the flies a lovely profile as well as it helps to get the fly in proportion..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie..
Dear Davie, an honor you have made this mythical fly in our region and the Nalón-Narcea river. Perfect, impossible to improve... Thank you very much on my behalf and many good fishermen from our land, Asturias.👍👏👌
Hi Chus, You are very welcome and I have to be honest I very honoured that you asked me to tye this famous fly and that you feel I have done it justice.. All the very best Davie
A new one on me, but looks like a very nice fly... and superbly tied, as ever. I haven't tied anything for a while, but I might give this one a go. Now where's my box of hairy stuff? :-)
@@t.o.3522 I find fox a bit too soft. Tying wings right now with dyed buck tail. A stiffer material for sure. Slightly softer with a nice crinkle to it is the dark butt end of a calf tail. Good for stiff wings to tailing for big, bushy dry flies.
An interesting pattern ,and the two colour body is always an attractive tying, similar to Irish Shrimp patterns .Another one to inspire when salmo salar isn't interested in any of the many others. I like the name. Simon Artley ,Manchester.
