I think I have watched all your videos multiple times.. This is the best fly tying instructor around. Your flies work all the way over here in Brittish Columbia Canada. Thank you for your patterns, but more importantly, your ability to teach so precisely and effortlessly
Mr McPhail, I appreciate your creation of these videos. Hard to believe you have only been tying for less than a decade, as none is better. Michael Edwards
Dear Dave , Thank you so much for sharing your great knowledge . I find your work very inspiring and also the tyings do catch a lot of fish. Being on the river a great deal I do get to see what works . Thanks and all the best Kevin Smith
Hi Davie. Thanks for all the great vids. Really you are a master! I am a beginner at this and you make it look so easy. I have watched so many of your clips and each one teaches me something new. If you are ever in South Africa come fishing with us! We have some lovely streams and still waters down here in the cape.
Great easy fly to tie. Of course you always make it look easier than it actually is for us mortals :) Thanks for sharing. I knew at the beginning when I saw the UTC thread there had to be a split thread dubbing loop involved. All the best to you, Sean
A great fly, and no feathers too. Brilliant! Any chance of your doing some more Clyde style flies Davy? I have John Reid's book but would like to see a couple of examples, especially of dries.
i tied up oliver edwards version a couple of seasons ago, only differance is he uses a hackle up the body and at the head,a super fly.and very very durable,i had at least 60 trout before i stripped it down to tye another but i will for sure give your one a good testing thanks davie
Outstanding Davie. My Seges by comparison look like something thats hit your car windscreen . Pure beginner that I am I can sit all day in front of the screen learning from you .
Hi Stuart Jones, I find these work just as well and even better messed up as when they are sitting proud and high when perfect...I'm glad you enjoy the videos and that they are encouraging you to tye.... All the very best Davie
Thanks for the reply Davie I have just watched your latex caddis again and going to have another crack at this as the first time it didnt turn out too good .I do not have any latex skin so I used a pair of latex gloves purchased from a local store and i cut the fingers into slim strips that worked ok but I tried bleaching goose feathers but it didnt turn out too good
Hi Aleksandar Lukic, I used a Law Vise in the video which unfortunately is no longer being made, if you do a search you will find many photos of this vise...I'm glad you liked the flies I tye... All the very best Davie
Hey Davie. As always , beautifully tied , innovative, yet traditional. I have a question. What exactly does the bubble do/ represent? Underwing? Egg sack? Kind regards from Lappland. Colbee B
Hi Colbee B, What the CDC will do is to trap a bubble of air within the wing and help keep it well on top of the surface of the water and it also gives a good impression of a caddis wing..It's a great pattern and certainly worth having in your box... All the very best Davie
Hi Davie. The body, is it a combination of several dubbings or is it possible to buy this combination? Thanks for all the great videos. Best regards Dan
Hi Dan, I have attached a link to Wapsi Natural Dubbing and the one I like most is the Fox Squirrel though they are all very good... All the very best Davie www.bogdangawlik.pl/index.php/cPath/322_118_673?language=en
Davie, I found the pattern for the Nancy's prayer. Could you tie this fly? Hook: TMC 102Y Thread: Uni 8/0 Abdomen: Squirrel Dubbing Underwing: CDC Wing: Woodduck breast feather Thorax: Squirrell Dubbing
HiDaz Han, I've always used Mucilin for my dries even CDC flies. What you have to do is allow the small velvet patch to soak up the cream with a bit of heat from a hairdryer, then all you have to do is rub you finger or thumb on the velvet patch lightly coating it so that you can apply the mucilin to your fly...The other floatant is one that you may like to use on CDC flies but I haven't really used it very much myself.. Hi Austiin D, I've never tied the Mochican Mayfly but I do know it's a good pattern and worth tying, it's one i could do when we all get back to filling our boxes in the winter months just keep me in mind.... All the very best Davie
Hi amy johnson, I alway use a floatant on CDC flies but make sure that you don't over do it as I lightly apply it so that the fibres don't get clogged up which will flatten the fibres and the fly will not sit right on the water... All the very best Davie
Hi Charlie Merrell, Here's a list of the tools I use...Matarelli Whip Finisher, Bobbin Holders are Tiemco Heavy Duty Ceramic, Dr Slick All purpose 4 inch Tungsten scissors and finally Veniards Hair Stacker and small Hackle Pliers which I've had for years... I wish you well and if you need any more help just let me know... All the very best Davie
Hi Андрей Еремеев, I used Fox Squirrel Dubbing but you could use many other types like Hare's or Rabbit fur which is similar... All the very best Davie..
