About Tyler Childers:
Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky is a little town called, Paintsville, where the economy is dependent on the dying coal industry and a tradition of music thrives with the US 23 Country Music Highway Museum and Butcher Hollow. Carrying on the music tradition is native son and current Lexington, Kentucky resident, Tyler Childers.
Paintsville is located in the Big Sandy River Valley of Johnson County in Eastern Kentucky made famous for its lawlessness, religion, and booze, and a song about a horse thief, a rambling man, and an attempt to gain some good ol’ Appalachian self-justice is what “William Hill” is all about. Following his “Papaw” around to the Kentucky social institutions - church events and barber shops to name a few- as well as a lot of coon hunting with his dad, Tyler has heard a tale or two about the misadventures of a few good ol’ boys and he gives his own spin of these accounts behind a whisky-soaked voice well beyond his young age.

Lyrics:
Daddy worked like a mule mining pike county coal
He fucked up his back he couldn't work anymore
He said one of these days you'll get out of these hills
Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills
See the ways of this world just to bring you to tears
Keep the lord in your heart you'll have nothing to fear
Live the best that you can and don't lie and don't steel
Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills
Well daddy I've been trying i just can't catch a break
Theirs too much in this world that i can't seem to shake
But i remember your words lord they bring me to chills
Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills
Keep in mind that a mans just as good as his word
It takes twice as long to build bridges you burn
And there is hurt you can cause time alone cannot heal
Keep your nose on the grindstone and out of the pills

Found out a month ago my old man had a tumor in his urinary tract. They scheduled surgery end of the month to remove it and had a follow up appointment yesterday to see how things were. Sister called me last night with vague info about bladder cancer and needing seven more surgeries and chemo over the next three years. Life has given me gut punch after gut punch but I don’t know what I’ll do without my old man. This line definitely brought tears to my eyes on my way to work.

Words can’t describe what this song means to me. My daddy worked in pike county in the mines, and he also hurt his back and had to quit working. He was a very wise and humble man, and always gave the same advice to me and my brother. He passed away January 1st of this year, and when I miss him I listen to this. This is what music should be all about... we're talking about a man , a young humble man, standing in a room singing about love, hardship , pain... a man sharing his experience to the world asking for nothing but recognition... there is no vanity present, there are no watches, cars, suits, jewelry or women... he doesn't focus on what he has , he's just grateful to have it, he focusses on the sacrifices it took to get to where he is and in allowing other people to find a connection ...

There is something so raw and real about Tyler's music. It's haunting. The combination of his lyrics with his voice and delivery is almost overpowering sometimes. Hits you like a ton of bricks. A real country outlaw. He already belongs on the country outlaw Mt Rushmore with Williams, Cash Haggard and Jennings.

I remember the first time I came across this song, I was high as a kite on opiates, any kind I could get my hands on whether it was H or oxy or whatever. I heard this song and that line….”keep your nose on the grindstone and outta the pills”…..and I bawled. I wanted out of that addiction so bad but I was in so deep. Within a week of listening to that song every day….I checked myself into detox and rehab. It was the absolute worst two weeks of my life. I was at risk of having a stroke or a heart attack because it was so bad. Had to be medically supervised around the clock. BP of 180/130. I don’t know how I didn’t die. But I came out of that detox…..and I haven’t looked back since. I just got 2 years clean and sober this past July. And honestly…thank you Tyler. Thank you.

Once in awhile we’re blessed with an artist that conveys their life and environment and it strikes a chord with those from all different backgrounds because they feel the words. Childers is that artist nowadays (along with Wall, Jinks, Simpson and Bingham). He is the real deal and that’s why his music resonates with so many people, it’s real….no gimmicks, no polish and no bullshit.

I may not be an addict but growing up without a father to tell me these kind of things to be a better man makes me feel a ways. Listening to this song made me break today. So grateful for talent

I’ve listened to this song a thousand times. It blows my mind how well it sums up the things we do as addicts. Having a 6 year old son who I worry every day will follow in those footsteps, this song hits home on so many levels, it brings tears to my eyes almost every time I hear it. So deep.

Born and raised in Nashville. Can’t tell you how nice it is to hear real music again. Tyler, Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson, etc.. saving country music one song at a time.

This could be the best song ever written, sang and preformed. Simple perfection.

It takes twice as long to build Bridges you burnt and there's hurt you can cause time alone cannot heal. Holy shit
