Tyler Fernengel is in the Unclicked Studio and he is opening up about his mental health journey, sobriety, and Riding BMX as a form of therapy. Tyler has been on an absolute mission lately (check his Instagram for proof) and I look forward to seeing him do great things on and off the bike.

Stay Humble Tyler. You’re one of the greatest to ever pedal a BMX.

If you are an alcoholic or drug addict like I am you should know that you can’t go a year or 2 or 20 and then start drinking or using again and magically be not a alcoholic or addict . Every time we stop and then eventually relapse or start back up again it’s always worse never better. It is a known fact of addicts and alcoholics that the brain remembers and reverts right back to its old was every time because it triggers the reward system in the brain. I’m in the same boat trying to stop my old ways by buying a new bike and pick up ridding my bike again life was so much better when I road every day instead of using. Bmx gave me true happiness partying never did only hell. I love this channel it’s giving me back the bmx itch again! Please keep it coming thanks

I just don’t understand how every possible frame, parts, and energy drink sponsor hasn’t gotten on their knees for Tyler throwing their highest partnership options at him considering how much he’s been riding, the level and his history. If I owned a brand I would see this guy as the best investment in the entire industry.

Honestly didn't know much about Tyler before just recently. He's obviously a talented bike rider, but the guy seems like a genuinely good person too. It's important to hear guys like him talk about his challenges, especially the pathological drinking and risk taking. Takes a lot of strength to be vulnerable like that. Also, funny to hear Dennis be cagey about where that SD bridge spot is lol.

Such a gentle soul in such a gnarly rider. Hes very humble and blame all on himself but i just wanna point out from experience that all the mental issues didnt come out of the blue because brain and spinal injuries plays a huge part in it. When your mind is mechanically messed up its very difficult to live think straight and find meaning but nevertheless through dedication and willpower its possible to recover as tyler exemplifies. Glad he also mentions psychedelic because they are really helpful in terms of rewiring an injured brain, well any brain for that matter, and unlocking your destiny. Much love and appreciation tyler xoxo

Tyler's tmv part is one of the best parts to ever exist. Makes riding look fun while still having all the big sends. I take people to the gap ice in ann arbor every time we're there just to stay humble. Keep killing it man!

@@antoniohatch5170 you might still be able to buy it online from alex Burnside. As far as the gap icepick it's at the end of a line in the beginning part if the video. They go over the part in this interview.

Dennis and Ryan are talking more than his guest😢
@mennyus
@mennyus Месяц назад
every time. they're legends in their own right, but can you please let the guest speak? It's especially painful at the end, when Tyler's sharing some deep realisations and they keep throwing his train of thought off by needing to agree or rephrase what he said in their own words. Interviewing is a skill too, it's not just a natural conversation!

Respect man! You are one of most talented riders in BMX. I have also dealt with addiction and self medicating issues. Not alcohol, but a decade of my life I was addicted to opiates (including heroin) which had spurts of speed and other stuff. Started with a car accident and being prescribed oxy. Ruined my life. Took everything and lost so many friends and people that cared. I have been clean no 10 years and life is good again so stick with it man. Life will continue to get better for you!

Been there myself I think there is a lot of riders out there that are struggling and don’t talk about it because they don’t wanna be judged. But talking about it really helps and can save lives. Glad to hear your still clean I have about the same amount of time as you and it helps hearing that I’m not the only one 🤝

I deleted some of my reply somehow but I agree I wish more people would speak on it so others would realize they are not being judged and it’s more common than one thinks. We all have problems and all need help sometimes.

Kinda tone def for Dennis to rip a beer in front of Tyler and then mention the possibility of Tyler being able to drink again. Show some respect for a guy who’s worked hard at being a better person through struggling with drinking.

LOVED THIS! Tyler, wow! What a guy! Insane to think of how much you feel like you know a guy just by following him on social media channels from the other side of the world, and with that it has been some serious scary times seeing the state you have been in and the situations surrounding you! But with that I am so thrilled to see you doing so good! The bmx world is definitely more awesome with Tyler in it and riding! Can’t wait to watch more!

A tail as old as time. Seems to be a lot of red bull athletes that go down this path. I am happy when they pick them self up and rediscover the passion again. On the Skis is a guy named Nick Geopper is a very similar story. It’s sometimes nice to rout for that underdog. I truly hope it works out for him or anyone going down the road of rebuilding. Great interview and production. You guys at our BMX are getting real good at this whole RU-vid long form interview thing. Still waiting on another ad read with the little guy. I know it’s more work for you guys but after I watch the same ad read 3 times I have a habit of skipping over them. Just saying.
