@@andrewboyce7268 Me too, My grandma has Alzheimer's like Tyler's grandfather that's where the lyric "When your eyes did not know me like I know you" comes into place (In Legend) and I didn't spend as much time as I should've with my grandma before she got Alzheimer's...I can understand where Tyler's feelings.
I really think he's criticizing that idea. He's criticizing the people that dehumanize someone for having money or fame. "How could he go if he's got everything." And I really fucking love that.
@@mauricioadaniya5283 I always thought of it as "I'll mourn for someone who's hurting and takes their life because of that (the kid), but I won't mourn for someone who kill themselves for fame and attention (the king). Idk, it's pretty cool that the same line can be interrupted so differently
@@mirandamobley9904 That's something I'll always love about music with actual meaning behind lyrics. The lines can always be interpreted differently and as long as the interpretations are genuine, I don't think they can be wrong.
You could see Tyler stopped at the end ... I can imagine how hard it would be for him to talk about his granddad and this grave topic. The guy seriously sang this from the bottom of his heart. Edit: can someone tell me why I have 5k likes on a RU-vid comment lol?
I love Tyler's take on suicide. Its what people don't want to hear but needs to be said. I found this song particularly hard hitting as I am from Ireland and we have a huge suicide problem among men my age (21-30). This song really has a strong message.
My little sister is 12 and loves this album, I’m 24 and I know the meaning of the songs and I hope she never feels the darkness I have felt in my life.
Oh I wish the best to those people in Ireland, if you are from there or another nothern country please Stay Alive, this pain would pass too but be patience 🙏
Shane Elliott this is what people should be playing on the radio instead of songs that have no meaning. The songs that are talking about sex and drugs are not what make me feel okay again when I'm not okay, its songs like this and bands like this that make an impact on me.
I was at their concert last night. He played this. Right. In front. Of. Me. I held up my hands in a heart. And he made eye contact with me for what felt like forever. Then, he held up one of his hands making half of a heart💕

Tyler, all alone on a big and empty stage with just a piano for company. Singing about suicide, a topic very near and dear to his heart. His voice breaks, along with our hearts. He is close to tears along with us. We are with him, even if you can't see us. He is with us, even if we can't see him. He loves us all, just as we love him. ||-// stay alive ||-//
People always keep telling me "you've got everything, why are you like this?" It's not the things, your parents money or the material that matters. It's not the number of people you have around you. It's about you. The way YOU were treated by those close to you, the way YOU perceive the world, the struggles YOU ve been having to complete some ordinary tasks. You are different so don t compare to others. But what we all have to do is to stay alive
I see you, I appreciate the battles you fight, you're right it's not about comparing pain, it's about having compassion for your own pain and that of others. You know what's ironic, people recognize that certain people are worse off yet do nothing to help, those people should stay quiet in such matters. If they are willing to ask why? they should have the patience to listen not have preconceived notion of whether an individual's pain is valid or not. Collectively as a culture we think so illogically and feel so little that it's really a shame to have all the material things we have because we actually don't know how to use it properly.
Jared Padelecki, one of the stars of the show Supernatural, had to deal with this, and he's been an outspoken activist about it. He was diagnosed with depression literally on set, and has been struggling with it for a long time. Plenty of people have basically said things like, "You're the star of a huge hit show, you're rich, you have a beautiful wife and kid, tons of friends and fans. What is there to be depressed about?" And he usually goes off on those people. Because like you said, it's not about what you have, it's about how you think, and that's a totally different can of worms. People who don't struggle with mental illness often don't understand what it's like for your own thoughts to be out of your control. It's the scariest part of it all, to me at least, but those who don't know how it feels are just like, "So... don't think like that? Don't think those things? Think positively!" It's a bit like telling a healthy person, "Oh, you like clouds? So just jump real high and touch them!"
Hello, everyone. I'm fan from Russia. I started listening to Twenty One Pilots recently, literally with the release of the album Trench. I don't know much English (even this comment I'm writing via google-translate), and at first just enjoyed the beautifully composed music and Tyler's beautiful voice. But I decided to read the translation of the songs into Russian. Vol... this is amazing. It touched me to tears (I hope the translator did not distort this phrase). In Russia, few people raise such serious topics in songs. It's been a long time since I've heard something so profound and meaningful. These songs really made me think about me and what surrounds me. Songs Pilots comparable to a friendly conversation on a serious topic or reception at the psychologist. After them you... you look on the other side of the world, friends, relatives and what surrounds you. I learned to appreciate what I have and stopped crying about what was and is gone or what I will never have. Thank You, Twenty One Pilots. Your creativity... it's like a breath of fresh air. After your songs really want to live, create, love and appreciate everything.

tylers take on suicide is seriously one of the most important things ever, he faces it and understands it’s a thing he doesn’t turn away from it and it takes such a toll on people dealing with it he is the most important strongest person ever along with joshua, they get this and it needs to be put across that they want you here and they want all of us here, stay alive and thankyou tyler and josh i need you in my life this is so powerful and emotional, i wouldn’t be here without you two |-/
I lost a friend to suicide this week. This song has been instrumental in helping my compartmentalize and process my feelings. I've been a fan of top's music for years but this song just means so much more to me now.
This happened to someone I knew recently, and I have to say that I feel the same thing. Sometimes we're very detached from what we see through social media, but when it happens so close to you, it makes you realize how valuable life is and how painful this subject is. Tyler wrote a song about what it's like to lose a friend on his college album, No Phun Intended. It's called Taken By Sleep. Very emotional, but definitely a recommendation. Also, I've seen your channel before. Keep up the great work on your music.

Stay alive friends. Even four years after, it still resonate with our mind. I promise it'll get better. I've been there, we all know what it is here, so trust us. We're banditos, we've been in Dema, if you're struggling, hang up to us. We're here. We're listening. We're reading. We're gonna help you no matter what
"Find your grandparents or someone of age, pay some respects for the path that they paved. To life they were dedicated, now that should be celebrated." My husband's grandmother was in ICU. We went to see her and then went to the concert (had bought the tickets months before). Heard this song for the 1st time. When he sang this at the end, I just started quietly crying. She was gone a week later. She had such an impact on my life.
Man, I so proud of Tyler. He's come such a long way. And every time he says "but they won't get em", I can feel the sensarity and I realize that I don't have to worry about him killing himself anymore.
How could he go if he’s got everything. We’ll mourn for a kid but won’t cry for a king. Personally the deepest part of the song for me. The fact that his voice breaks after that part proves that it is for him too.
I love how tyler has those little voice cracks, like the ones when you're crying. It just puts so much emotion into the song and shows how it still hits him to sing these songs. He's been through so fucking much
Damn theres so much emotions in Tyler during this song. The way he clenches his fists at 2:05 and just his facial expression. There's a lot going on there...
Also the vocal cracks, which are most noticeable right after 2:05 and then at the end with "find your grandparents." He's a good performer, so he's good at hiding it, but when you put together his expression, his body language, and his voice, he was probably about to cry and trying to hold it in. I'm proud of him for singing like that tbh - it's so much easier to just detach yourself from your work, but Tyler refuses to do so.
I thought the chorus part would sound awkward without all the sound effects from the original version but Tyler's unique voice and singing style nailed it! I hope to see more this kind of "purest" version of their songs!

In my 37 yrs of life, I have not been so passionate about someone's music, until I found out about Twenty One Pilots. I love this band so much and want everything good to come to them. Their music makes me so happy.
I think it's beautiful that I'm a lot younger and I'm also so passionate about their music. I'm so proud of them being able to touch different generations
So many likes, wow, thanks! I have 5 kids and they all love them as much as I do..I'm so happy to have that in common with them. Their ages are 15, 13, 12, 10 and 7. My husband does too but not to that extend. Lol
"promise me this; if i lose to myself, you won't mourn a day, and you'll move onto someone else" is still the most heartbreaking thing i've ever heard in my life
@@user_28373 you get it especially when it happened once to many times. One should never have happened in the first place. The beautiful part of the song is the celebration of life and understanding your elders know more than you. Not that you can't learn from the younger to . Nothing wrong with having some kind of anxiety now that's turned in to a big stigma . To Bad when people try to figure you out some will assume you don't have self-esteem or something else . The desperation in his voice when he started to sing instead of rap the start of the second verse is just beautiful. Tyler, why do you have to be so amazing? You just do everything with such passion that men in our current culture are too afraid to admit to. Thank you for everything
The piano here was pure old classical. So beautiful, to anyone who says new music isn’t proper music i dare you to listen to the whole song and not cry!
I’ve lost a friend to suicide and he told me “move on to someone else” on a note left on his dresser. It made me think of this song and I started to cry
since i've been avoiding tour spoilers like crazy, this is the first time i'm hearing him perform this song. man idk if i can handle seeing this in person. i might actually die
The concert was amazing!!! However. I felt and heard more emotion in this version because he had no one to perform for. Like his voice is breaking in this one and he is about to cry. However at the concert, he couldn’t get to that point because he was performing and had to go to the next song right away.
I hear that Tyler's voice is kinda broken when he is playing it, so soft, I feel that he's about to cry. Damn this man saved my life. I wanna find a way to thank him for doing this
0:49 Better not bite your lip too hard, it might get cut. I love this performance. I probably like it better than the version on the album. Edit: Thanks for the likes guys, I appreciate it!
It felts like he was in pain pain, of being torn between speaking the truth and of the love and of trying to speak without disrespecting. I feel like it was very emotional and raw and he had to pause from time to time.. it felt so true. I love and respect this guy so much.
3:25 to 3:38 is when you can feel the real power coming from his voice. From that very point it starts to sound like he’s gonna start to shout rather than sing because of how strong the message is.. and when it hits 3:36 his voice cracks because he has to compose himself and stop himself from shouting. It’s a truly powerful message and I can completely understand why this song is needed.
He's not defeated fren! Just emotional! When he says "but they won't get 'em," it's like he's making a promise that he will never give up! But honestly I agree... Petition to give our smol beans a hug!!!! 💜💛💛💛💛💛💛 ||-//
This song should be played all the time on all radios, it has a message that everyone has to hear. they should play this song instead of songs that talk about being "a bad boy"
It blows my mind to think that their are people out there who can’t or won’t appreciate the talent this band has. He speaks so much truth, Tyler makes me understand the shit that we all suffer and go through. The kind of suffering that I can never put into words or begin to explain. But he makes it make sense. Please tell me I’m not alone in this?¿
people like josh and him are hard to find these days i'm proud of them for going this big getting the message out that there's hope for everyone and the clique may be crazy (sometimes) but we're always here for each other and them i love all of you guys and thank you tyler and josh for helping me find them and knowing i'm not alone. 💛
Shame when we find musicians like him we insult them and say that they are copying tøp. Half Alive would be a good example (they made their own sound following their album release though).
So good! This song is so important-mental health awareness is definitely something that needs to be addressed, but the media is glorifying suicide-we should be giving those with mental illness the attention and help they need while they are with us. Please make sure those you know with depression and anxiety the unconditional love they deserve, it might make all the difference to that person!
