His low possession count might suggest otherwise, but Welsh was extremely active in this game and looked on from the opening quarter. He worked hard to present an option, and typically halved marking contests that he didn't win to present his small forwards with crumbing opportunities. He was a significant presence during a late surge by SA that saw them fall just short of a win.
Footy Stuff Player Profile:
Tyler Welsh - 191cm tall/med forward, Adel F/S. Undersized key forward who had some exciting moments at the champs as a bottom ager. Has the speed to get separation on the lead, and the physicality to impose himself in marking contests. I have him in the top 10 for now, but the lack of height makes him a query, and a potential slider. He will need to prove that he has the ground game that a medium forward requires at AFL level.

Welsh seems to rise to the occasion when the game is there to be won. Exciting player. Not sure if he can be a key forward at afl level. I believe he will be a Jack Gunston type with a dash of mid-forward craft.

At this level he can play as a lead/mark forward, but he'll play alongside taller guys at AFL level that will eat up that leading space, so I reckon he's going to have to add more ground ball craft and play as a medium forward.

@@footystuffYT No doubt it will be harder at AFL level. A good forward can find space in a crowded room. I do believe he has the athleticism to play as a medium forward, possibly even midfield minutes like a Degoey type. Time will tell, cheers.

He is that Hydrid forward that every team wants. He is the Jordan Degoey type.
