My mother never sued the pediatrician when I was younger and when he would always say I don't believe in T1D.When I was 19 I met my mom's endocrinologist and I said I have been through the brain hemorrhage and I have been through the stroke and I never received anything for T1D. I told my mother's doctor that I have had symptoms of excessive thirst and excessive hunger my entire life. 💔💔💔 It was really really neurologically upsetting to think about because now I have to sue every doctor around the world. I am mixed and the pediatrician when I was younger never said anything helpful. He just went on and on about how much mixed people creep him out. I was also forced to spend several months in the hospital and I was also forced to go through over 50 brain surgeries. Symptoms of Gastroparesis were never ever taken care of and I was forced to play something called Change The Game and I was given 8 to 10 genetic diseases at one time. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 As far as doctors in Missouri go most of them fucking suck and to be honest they are all in my opinion dumb asses because they want to listen to schizophrenic children. Schizophrenia is when someone hears voices in their head. The part where all my mother's neighbors had children with schizophrenia was horrendous because I was expelled from an elementary school and I believe I was expelled from my middle school and I believe I was expelled from my high school as well. I have met more than one schizophrenic in my life and they all suck ass.

My bff got type one in november 2011 or 2012 and i was the last person to know and even now she doesn't feel confident saying the word diebetities. So i looked up Jdrf so me and my friend told our head teacher and people from Jdrf came to our school and now she feels 1000 times confident about saying "i have type one diebtities and i am proud." She was only 8 or 9 when she got it. Just writtening this is brining a tear to my eyes i am just so proud of her. #justsayin subscribe to JDRF 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪 Be strong 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

It's always a relief to know that there are ways to feel better and that we have insulin to help us along, even though it definitely DOES feel awful to even be dealing with this in the first place. Thank you for your comment!

I had a similar experience as you, and got so much support from my family. I was diagnosed May 17, 2016 at the age of 20 and it was really weird how it happened. For months I had the symptoms of being super tired, peeing a lot, unquenchable thirst, and having no energy even after sleeping for a long time. Anyways, I had just gotten surgery to get my wisdom teeth out. So on top of the stress of having surgery, plus the fact I couldn't eat solid foods and was eating only really sugary things such as smoothies and yogurt, I think it just completely put my body into shock, but of course I didn't want to think it was Diabetes I thought it was just a side affect of the surgery I had just had. For about 3 days I was hyperventilating, walking up stairs made me feel like I ran an entire football field. I went to an instacare and then had to be sent by ambulance to the hospital with DKA, and I was in the hospital for 5 days. The first two days were the worst, I couldn't move at all and didn't sleep. Because unfortunately going through all of that, I was also going through alcohol withdrawals (I know, I had a drinking problem.. This was another reason I neglected to go to the doctors because I just thought my symptoms were from drinking too much. I now however have refrained from drinking. ) . So not only did I have to get treatment with all the IV's and insulin, but I had to get treatment for the withdrawals I was going through. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. My blood sugar was somewhere in the 700's, and I lost a whopping 30 pounds in a month. But the last night in the hospital when I finally felt better, was one of the biggest reliefs of my life. Ever since being out of the hospital I have never felt better in my life. I still get the occasional depression, but so far I have been in good control, and I am hoping to get the omnipod soon.

My 5 yr old son was diagnosed on Nov. 2 (a little over a week ago). I spent 5 days in the hospital with him, as he also had a staph infection and a bit of asthma. We are just learning how to do all this... phew, it's a lot.... but he's a tough little guy, and what choice as a mom do I have... I have to take care of my baby. Thanks for sharing your story. It's true, without the support of close family members, it would be a lot different.

I've been a T1D for 5 years. I was seeing an endocrinologist for a different autoimmune problem. The last thing he has you do is go to the vampires. So, I was driving home and the doctor called. He said to park in safe place, call 911 and immediately go to ED. He scared the whatever out of me. I found out my blood suger was 698. It took 3 miserable weeks to get use to 85 to 200. And the weird thing was I didn't have any symptoms. I lost a couple of pounds, but that was it. However, it encourages me to know that other people can cope with T1D. Thank you very much for sharing your story. I think your helping save people's lives. Be healthy with T1D and COVID-19. Thanks again. JDF

You're doing great, young lady. :) I was diagnosed in Dec. of 1977 and didn't have any support at all. I was in the hospital for 3 months. I arrived in the hospital by ambulance from the doctors office. At ten years old, it was kind of overwhelming. We have a lot to support us these days and there's been a lot of advances. Hang in there, never give in and don't ever forget how really special you are.

I actually was crying with you the whole time having family support is such a touching and beautiful thing and I am really missing it they were caring for my diabetes for less than a year and I was a teenager and diabetes affected my personality a lot through that time so they just left it all on me just because I was a teenager and said it once and now after seven years of diabetes I really miss that support but don't know how to get it back . Keep up the hard work your doing I don't know how my life would be without the diabetes online community you guys are awesome ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Your information is right on mark. I've dealt with Type 1 for over 30 years so I can relate to everything you discuss. The first autobiography I read of someone with Type 1 is called "Metal Jam" by Teresa McLean (from England). I crossed the street from the clinic to the library and found this book to read. It was amazing how she described everything she went through. You are becoming the voice for Type 1 Diabetics. Keep it up, and keep helping people. You're awesome!

HI Ellyse, I am going to show your video to my 12 year old daughter Freya tomorrow. She was diagnosed with T1D in March and hasn't met anyone else with it yet. It's hard enough having the disease, but even harder that she's the only one she knows with it. I'm also going to show her your 10 bad habits....she matches you pretty much 100%! Thank you for sharing. I'm so glad you got to the hospital when you did. My mum was visiting us at the time when Freya was diagnosed. She's a doctor and as soon as she heard that Freya was thirsty and lethargic she sent us to get a sugar test. She was at 577, but not nearly as in bad shape as you were. 2 hours later we were in hospital and our lives had changed for ever. She is handling it pretty well, hated needles like you, but became an expert very quickly. It's a crappy disease but thank God it's manageable. Keep up the positivity! All the best, Fionnuala

My name is Emily 11 years old and got diabetes when i was 9. There are a couple of reasons why i hate being a diabetic i cant sleep in because bs will rise,when people eat sugary stuff infront of me i feel emotional because i cant have it,my teachers are there for me mr.berwanger and mrs.sposato they help me get through stuff i email them if i need to tell them something. I am always with a high bs and if i can controll it without sneaking food i will be healthy when i grow up. When someone yells at me for doing something wrong i run in my room and start crying.

I got diagnosed on November 24 of this year and I can totally relate with your symptoms. I was doubled over in pain from how badly I had to use the bathroom. I searched for symptoms too, but I actually was having all of the symptoms for bladder cancer! We took urine in and they instantly diagnosed me and told me that we caught it very early but if we would've waited two or three more days, I would've been in the ICU. I've been watching a lot of your videos and they have helped a lot with knowing that I'm not the only one!☺️

Every Christmas since I was 6, I think, I would feel sick after eating one or two pieces of candy. All of those Christmases I remember thinking well it's happening again. When I reached the age of 8, I stopped growing completely. I was 10 was when my mom noticed something wrong when I still haven't grown, but what? I went to the nutritionist and they drew some blood. After that I went back to school like everything was normal. I had to leave school almost immediately after I got there. I got to the hospital, I was told I had a blood sugar of 625 and that I had diabetes. I was mostly thinking to myself not another thing to deal with since I have literally three pages full of severe food allergies that I was diagnosed with after a major anaphylaxis attack at the age of 6 (quite the coincidence, right?). I remember this as very overwhelming, but I've overcome it since then and am happy to share about my diabetes.

Hi Ellyse! Thanks so much for sharing your story. Even though it was my son who is 13 and not me, I had many of the same thoughts you did and did not want to admit that he probably had T1D. He was so thirsty and and losing weight (only 5 pounds but he also grew 3 inches at the same time so I was very worried). I tried to tell myself it was because he was becoming a teenager or that his mouth was dry because it was winter & mine was dry too (It gets very dry up here in Canada). Anyway... the joy in all the heartache has been brave people like you, Gary Hall and many others sharing their stories & giving us hope. One person said, "Diabetics can do everything that everyone else can do but... WE do it better!" I believe him. It take a lot of discipline to care for yourself with this condition and I applaud you all INCLUDING my son who took charge of counting carbs & injecting as soon as the shock wore off. His level was 3 points below yours at diagnosis but he was just getting confused, tired and so thirsty with occasional leg cramps and the doctors were so amazed. We went home from the hospital on the same day - so lucky! I'm glad you are feeling so much better. We found you because we are considering the Omnipod system. He's okay with pens but feels he'd have a greater freedom with the pod. HERE IS HIS BIG WORRY: Gym class - he thinks it would be weird for the other kids to see it in the locker room and ask questions and he does not want EVERYONE to know. Did you have that worry? Thanks! AND... keep up the great attitude. :-)

Ellyse will correct me if I am wrong! but I what I remember about high school is she did not like public attention, like the teacher asking her in front on the class if she was feeling ok and then everyone turing to look at her. The omnipod really was no big deal with other kids at E's school.

I consider myself one of the more lucky ones because I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 4.5 years old and my grandma was actually the one who noticed that I had lost 9.5 pounds and she mentioned it to my parents. At the same time I started getting very thirsty and began using the bathroom more frequently. Finally my mom took me to the doctor's office and when she mentioned what was going on they handed her a list of symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes. I was then taken to another room and they tested my blood sugar with a meter and the meter couldn't read it. So, they tested it via a blood draw instead. When the results came back they were shocked that I was so energetic because my blood sugar was 900. The funny thing is that we weren't really expecting this to happen to me but I was more at risk for developing Type. Diabetes because I had a kidney infection when I was 1 year old.

Last October I drove to a clinic over gastric problems. They said it was above their pay grade and told me to go to the emergency room. I drove myself there and my vitals were off so they took a blood sample. They retook the blood sample because the numbers that came back told them I should be doubled-over in pain about to pass out. Instead I was alert, I had a calm demeanor, and I drove myself there. Sure enough my blood sugar was 315 and I had DKA and pancreatitis. Thankfully I'm only type 2 and after losing 85 lbs I've been able to keep my blood sugar between 80-120 by diet alone with only the occasional spike or low (although a "spike" for me is 160 or so).

Having type one diabetes can be a very lonely experience sometimes, seeing as there are so few of us. I was diagnosed at the age of seventeen in August 2015, and it was honestly such a shock. I'd had the symptoms for three/four months and hadn't gone to the doctor. Nonetheless, they obviously referred me to the diabetic clinic at the hospital as soon as they diagnosed me! I also was diagnosed with type one and I had very similar symptoms,didn't have to be in the hospital like you I had to get my blood tested from school to prove that I had the chicken pox when I was younger and the doctor called my mother at like 7 pm saying my sugar was at 546 and I juts remember getting home from a driving with my mom and I went and laid on h coach and cried and then I had to go to the urgent care clinic the next morning and my sugar had gone down to like 300's by now and I went and got weight I have dropped almost 35 or more in 3 months, I remember when the doctor walked into the room and told me I couldn't keep it together I just started balling my eyes out and a specialist had moved to where I lived only weeks before or I would have had to go up to 6 hours away to see a specialist so I got there and they got me insulin and I felt so much better within such a shirt amount of time it is crazy how differently I felt

I got diagnosed 9 years ago when i was 10. I was on holiday with my brothers and mum visiting my uncle. I started to go to the toilet alot, drink a lot and get out of breath just walking to the toilet. I would vomit anything i ate and spent most of my day (and night) sleeping. My aunty knew someone who was a nurse and called her up as everyone was getting worried about me and the first thing she said was to take me to the hospital. I didnt really want to go but my uncle and mum said it will be alright we will be back in no time. I went and got admitted straight away, my dad was at home as he had work and my mum called him to come straight away. My dad, his brother and my cousins drove up (8 hour drive).... And when i saw my dad i cried and told him to take me back home. It was a shock to me, i was 10 and didnt know about diabetes, my life completely changed. Listening to you, i realised there are other people who its affected too.

I think that on a personal level every single diagnosis story has its tragic and serious elements. But every diabetic is trained to laugh at it eventually. I catch myself sometimes to boast of how good I can analyze all of these symptoms in medical terms. But every time I feel sad deep inside. Diagnosed at age of 11, now 40....

Alexa Mitchell Mine has been as high as 525 but I'm 67 yrs old. I'm raw vegan when possible. Sometimes I have bowls of pressure cooked veggie stew in the freezer if I'm broke or need more food. I have an electronic pressure cooker, one hour, cooks everything, and put every green, and red veggie you can find in in, close the lid and push on " pressure cook" done. I'm making sweet potato flat bread tomorrow. Hot sweet potatoes peeled and coconut flour, mashed and rolled, heated both sides in pan..., done. I hope it's fewer calories than bread. We don't need carbs to live. See Kristina raw vegan...you will love her on RU-vid and Markus and Cara Rothkranz...amazing and in their 50s! I strive to look that good! I'm an 8.9 BMI. I USE ALL ORGANIC SKIN SERUMS..hydraluranic acid (sp) holds 1000 times its weight in water, then I put on serums such as vitamin C, vitamin A, ARGAN oil, jojoba oil, not oily! Just great. Organic...no pesticides...And I'm trying a new herb (erb) from India on Amazon called NEEM. It lowers blood sugar, is in veggie caps, no dairy, soy, gluten meat...etc...and I take plant based collegen. I also take Milk thistle. Look it up on RU-vid, and web md.com, ask your doctor. My mounds of blood work were all perfect except no c-peptide, a link in the pancreas, has to do with GAD 1 or 2 from the brain to the pancreas c-peptide. Mine is non existent . My BMI 8.9...my GFR WAS 48 but since becoming vegan, raw, it is 60. That means kidney filtration rate. Was 48%. And in 3 weeks, 60%. Thank you for your heart- felt story. You can be an inspiration to all. I am a 35+ year retired cosmetologist. Hairdresser...I'm in to beauty and you certainly have it. Be the inspiration for others! Great job! A real warrior.

I got diagnosed with type 1 when i was 8, i am now 15. I have had the disease for around 8 years and everyday i pray for there to be a cure in my lifetime. Don't get me wrong i know i could of had it much worse and i am grateful for my life, but it can get very difficult and scary at times.

Ebonie R Ebonie, things could always be worse, and things can always be better. But remember that this is YOUR journey, and your feelings towards it are completely understandable. Lets be honest-- diabetes is awful! And scary & difficult like you said. And as silly as this may sound - I really do think there is a cure around the corner! We just have to wait it out together :)

HEYY! I'm 12 years old and currently in the 7th grade! I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was in the 4th grade. It was a really emotional change and I still have problems dealing with it to this day. I actually started cutting. I don't do it now. I used to do it because I felt really different. I would love if we talked more! I would love to have a friend that is also diabetic.

I'm a type one diabetic too. :) I've only made one video ABOUT type one, mostly my videos are about being pregnant and having type one. I will have to make a my diagnosis story. Your video was beautiful. It seriously made me cry, just thinking of the feelings you actually have on that day, and how I related to them. I never forget those feelings but have probably never confronted them. :) you have inspired me to do so.

I also have Type 1 diagnosed 3-11-14. (I'm 16) Blood sugar was only at 389, they skipped over me possibly going into a coma if I waited longer, but said I just would have passed. Spent my spring break in the hospital and ICU. We don't have insurance, but the hospital charity program relieved all $44K of my medical debt.

I’m amazed that at that time no one around you knew the symptoms, this is why we need to educate others like this. I was dx 2 days after my sweet 16, that was back in 1983. My bg was also in the 600’s but we didn’t have all the great technology we have today.

I know what is going on but idk how to say it. At this time covid 19 is going around and my parents don’t want to take me to the doctor. And they think I’m being a hypochondriac, and maybe I am but I truly feel like a zombie, and idk what to do. (After I ate dinner I felt a little better but idk. This has all happened so quickly idk what to do)

I might not remember that day vividly, but I remember what happened well enough. I'm eighteen now and I was diagnosed with type 1 when I was in either first or second grade, so I was lucky in a way. I had started drinking a huge amount of juice and sometimes couldn't make it to the bathroom. My mom knew something was up, so she took a urine sample to the hospital. Later that day when I was in class trying to write the cursive "c" but Just. Couldn't. Do it, my dad came and picked me up. I was taken to the local hospital, where they took my BG level. As you probably guessed, it was way too high for a seven-year-old. After that I was shipped to a bigger hospital about 100 km away. I can't remember that part at all. I remember a cannula being inserted into my hand for an IV and another in my other hand for them to be able to monitor my BG level more easily. Due to the high level of ketones going through my body at the time I hallucinated some weird shit that first night in the hospital and I know this because my mom stayed with me the entire stay in the hospital. All I remember about that night was a really weird nightmare/dream hybrid. After I got educated on my new illness I got to go home. Only to go straight back to the hospital due to a rota virus outbreak which was caused by the faulty air conditioning in the hospital. It was back to the hospital and back with the IV since I could not stomach anything and you know how big of a hazard constant vomiting is to a diabetic. Once that was done things went back to normal. All the way til 9th grade, when I got Ketoacidosis. I can't remember shit about that, just waking up in the ER. It was terrible. I'm fine now. Just normal diabetes problems now.

I was 55 yrs old and hospitalized, same thing. I thought it was the flu. Everyone knew me and said OMG, what happened to you?! I was put in a wheelchair, admitted for a week to control everything, same thing. My sugar level was over 400. I thought it was type 2 up until last month. All these years...I couldn't get off insulin even with just vegan ? It went way down, but I would have highs if I ate a slice of bread?! I saw an endricronologist .i was the same weight, sick. I'm 5'5" tall, skinny...She did pages of blood work. I'm type 1. My c-peptide was gone..( a link to my pancreas) I just started taking an herb called NEEM...I'm only taking 1 a day. It's helping, but because I'm so sensitive I go slow. One a day w/ a meal, salad with the works ( everything I can think of! As much as I want!! ) organic! If possible? I started on insulin immediately. Levemere and short-term Novolog with meals. That was 11 years ago. Since I'm a raw vegan, my GFR was 48 and now it's 60! Only took 3 weeks! I'm working on it. See Kristina raw vegan...she is so cool. She is on RU-vid. Also Markus and Cara...Rothkranz. I don't have any family that cares to be around me now., so I try not to be afraid, and you, my dear, are a real warrior! I'm almost 67 yrs old now and being a vegan has kept me young. I use all organic skin serums from Amazon, and organic, vegan collagen, vitamin C serum, vitamin A jojoba oil, ARGAN oil, etc. hydraulic acid retains moisture in the skin, so I use it before applying my other serums, all on Amazon. I use the serums on my belly. Once a week...My doctor said to take shots there, one side per month. The serums help heal any brushing after 11 years..wow..but you are right about the insulin." Without it we might not be here. I'm sorry. Thank you for your story and someone to share with. ❤️

When I first got diabetes I got really sick cuz no-one knew I had it so first I started drinking loads and loads (not alcohol obviously I'm under 18) but just water juice and milk. My parents noticed and thought I was drinking instead of eating and that's also how they explained the fact I was getting so thin. And I did eat but no matter how much I ate I stayed really underweight. We were travelling to go and visit my Nan & gran and we constantly needed to stop at service stations because I would drinks something and almost emedietly need the toilet afterwards the drinks just went straight through me. Then I began to get a weird looking tongue it would go along dry but a bit purple with bits of white. We also thought this was because me and my dad struggle breathing through are noses and so we have to breath through are mouths, so we thought it was because I breathed through my mouth my tongue was getting dry. I began to have barely any energy but I was still walking and talking. When I got to my grans house she said my face was looking thin but still no-one really gave it a thought. My gran only had armchairs not a sofa so there wasn't anywhere (except from the beds) to lye down on the floor it was a long journey and my parents thought I was just tired. When I got home I got really angry and just wanted to lye on the coach. But still I went swimming and was fine and my parents just thought I was tired. I started high school the.next day and I couldn't think I just wanted to drink and lye down and I was really out of breath. I got sent home and now my mum took me to the hospital. I had to wait 2 hours and then had a blood test my blood sugars were in the 20s and my ketones were 7 times the amount they should be. I got sent to the RUH and they tried putting me in a week chair but I wouldn't let them. My pulse was racing and they gave me insulin. Not long after being put on insulin I became Sooo hungry! But they wouldn't let me eat or drink. When using finally got breakfast I was starving! They gave me some squash and I was like yes I get something to drink! And then use took a sip and was like...ew....That's disgusting and no longer had any cravings for drinks. They told me I had type one diabetes and when I was ill I was in a hypa for one month and that's why I was so ill I wasn't getting enough fluid I just weed out everything I ate and drank and that's why I got so thin. The insulin pen is a bit scary at first but you get used to it. If you know anyone this sounds like tell them to go to the doctor and get checked. It's horrible I remember walking up my stairs and having to stop for breath every two steps. Thanks for reading!

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on November 15 2015 I'm currently 12 years old. I was being sick A LOT. I was in DCA and moments away from dropping into a coma, my blood sugar was 27.5 and I wasn't allowed to eat or drink for 2 days while in the hospital because I had a severe potassium deficiency and if I was eat and be sick it would get rid of the potassium they put into my body. It was like 2 weeks in hell. But I'm still quite depressed about the whole diagnosis.
@Ellyseeee
@Ellyseeee 8 лет назад
+Winters Chill It sounds kind of silly, but it REALLY DOES get better! The worst is the diagnosis because that's probably when you feel the most sick and when everything is confusing and new. Especially having your potassium levels off, that makes you feel so horrible. It's okay to feel sad about it, but just know that you won't always feel that way :)

+Ellyse Gentry thanks I'm doing a bit better, it's just I can't live my life how I wished I could which I think every diabetic feels, it's just my teachers treat me differently than they used too. My school has a youth club behind it with an entry way leading on to the school yard, and it has a coffee bar and all that so I still buy fizzy drinks that have small amounts of carbs and my teachers threaten to take them off of me knowing nothing about diabetes and they're trying to control MY life and MY diabetes, and they don't know what diabetes is. They try to stop me from doing my athletics cuz I'm an athlete I'm in the top ten cross country and sprinters in my year, the oldest year of my school and I just hate it. But at least I know I'm not alone.

A couple of months ago when I went to my check up my blood sugar was really high when they randomly checked it and they brought more people to look at it, they said they wanted to keep an eye on it because they said I could possibly be type one. I noticed when you were talking about the cranberry juice.... I wake up in the middle of the night dying of thirst my mom recently got the Welch's grape juice 2 days ago it is gone because I have randomly drank so much of it. I will drink like you said anything that makes me feel like I am not thirsty anymore. I also have to pee a lot too. I also feel so exhausted even from a full nights rest. I will go out somewhere say Walmart or somewhere right after my body is just so tired I need to go lay down. I love to take naps during the day and I am always so lethargic and I notice my friends get annoyed with it.
