Type O Negative - European Rust Special MTV Headbanger's Ball - 1996 Interview: Peter Steele, Josh Silver, Kenny Hickey Live: Black No. 1, Cinnamon Girl, Too Late: Frozen, Love You to Death (Sentrum Club, Oslo, 24/11/1996)
I met Peter in 97' . October Rust tour. I was an assistant manager at a movie theater in Santa Fe NM. Around 9:00pm I was standing guard at the ticket podium, while the employee in charge of ticket tearing cleaned theaters. Peter Steal walked up near the ticket counter, and began to look at the movie posters. I walked up to him and introduced myself. I told him how type o negative was the first band that I ever saw live, type o and Queensryche 95', I was with my best friend Cody. He died one year later in a head on car accident. Well anyway...Peter was F@k'n richiouslycool. He put me on the back stage list for the Albuquerque show the next night. Me plus four. I met everybody, they were all humble, good people. One of the best two nights of my life. RIP Peter, we love you.
Awsome dude! I'm also a fellow New Mexican but south east in Carlsbad. That 6'8" Monster, Demon, and True to bone, real as can be, and the 2nd coolest dude to live following Dimebag Darrel. Awsome story dude
I met Peter when I was 13 and saw them in Seattle - before the show I saw him walking to the bus and I told him they Type O Negative was my favorite band and October Rust was released on my birthday. He looked at me with raised eyebrows and said “young man, thank you very much what’s your name? Are you coming to the show tomorrow. He put me on the show list. He shook my hand and said “be good young man”. Love you Pete.
Criminally underrated band. Should have been huge. Peter Steele musical and lyrical alchemist. Great interview. All look amazing here. Really miss them.
Agreed. They were well known in many ways. Mortal Kombat & Bride of Chucky Soundtracks. Playing Wacken & Ozzfest. We still have celebrations for him in NYC
Such maturity in describing the relationship as bandmates. You can tell Peter would be classy and respectful to travel with in a band setting. We need more musicians like this. That way maybe some of them would stop breaking up bands over stupid stuff.
I believe he's coming off as such mainly because he actually disliked the entire idea. All the talks about wanting separate buses or needing privacy for himself, he treats others the same way.
@@yvesheinrich5013 yeah at 6:30 when she says they've been "touring, and touring and touring" you can see it his expression. It's been said many times that touring fucked up his mental health and that he refused to do it until the label convinced him to. He said that all he wanted was to work for the parks department because it was being outside and in nature all the time. It's really sad and a great loss.
Peter was not only incredibly sexy and talented.... he was so well spoken and intelligent, too. He was the full package. So sad he left us so early. RIP, Peter.... also, most interviewers suck. This girl actually did a very good job.
I got to see them in 97. Twas excellent. Kind of wierd/ uncomfortable when my girlfriend admitted had we been able to get backstage she would have offered herself to Peter. I was waiting for the "just fuckin around, pulling you're leg" comment, it never came.
I'm really kicking myself in the ass for not getting into these guys so many years sooner! Peter was so hot I think I would have been in a trance watching him sing!
Peter Steele had an amazing voice. Combination of that baritone deep vocal along with the more melodic stuff. Rest in peace ☮️. What a terrible loss and arguably due to cocaine - another evil drug alongside heroin and meth.
I miss this band. Lately this sort of thing has popped up in my feed. It is bittersweet. Maybe some young musician will get inspired by Peter and Josh and the band, and they will make some amazing songs worth buying the physical media of.
Came back to check this out after years and years of having seen it live. The most you can take away fro this is that Vanessa has got to be the most impressive and respectful VJ of that time. Peter and Josh were obviously horny and drunk and she used their off color comments to her advantage. Pure genius reporting. Of course i came here for ToN.. but damn, much respect for Vanessa the VJ.
It's crazy to think that I was only 1 years old when this was filmed. Never got to see TON live... It is the thing I will mourn for the rest of my life.
I love this interviewer Vanessa. She is beautiful and I could tell her and Peter had chemistry. You could tell she would get sad when peter had to leave, and when she interviewed Josh and Kenny that she was thinking about being with Peter.
Today Ten Years Without Peter !!!! R.I.P. Mr. Green Man Wherever You Are !!!! Great Fckng Memory's !!!! CHEERS For All The Type O Fans Around The World !!!! Greets From Barcelona !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg if i had to interview them or peter i'd probably would faint lol he's just so beautiful! lol i love this band in general as well i know i sadly couldnt meet peter now :( R.I.P but would love to meet the others :)
Josh is so funny it's ridiculous hahahahaha Kenny was keeping it cool, Peter was being Peter (which is also funny as shit), but Josh takes the cake here
Yeah, it was pretty awesome. I saw them many times. With Pantera, Metallica, Ozzy, Danzig... they opened for all of them at different shows. There were so many great concerts at that time. I feel bad for the younger rockers sometimes. I wish y'all could experience shows before everyone had cell phones, and liability prevented every show from being general admission or the stage being so damn high.
I was like 8 at the time. My brothers would play Type O all the time and I never got a chance to see them either but my bros gloat to this day about it.
They record 6 magnificent albums, every each is a MASTERPIECE!!!! I must say no band plays like Types ,what i really love about them ,similiar to Pink Floyd or Tool ,TON never care much about lenght of their songs!!!! Some have 3 mins, some 12 and im always happy listen their unique style.Farewell Riders of Vinnland
This was the tour i saw them on. Fucking epic tour and they were definitely in their prime! Loved the snow effect they used, loved the props of trees and the background. All around THE VERY BEST of ToN! I also love how Josh completely BLASTED her with "europe has less taste" hahaha. Serves her right for asking that question though, pretty rude imo, they were hot off the heels of the new album ffs.
i was born 2 days after this happened fuck have i missed out on so much shit on top of that metal is pretty much dead where i live. only fucking despacito is played in the radio here (Puerto Rico )
Pah. I was a couple of hours drive away from Oslo at this time... Too bad I was just starting school at 6 years old. Pah :( I need a fucking time machine.
