ABOUT THIS VIDEO
In this video Er. Mayank Saini discuss about the Type of Formwork (Shuttering) for Concrete Work & Its Measurement as Per CPWD Norms.
Propping and Centering : All propping and centering should be either of steel tubes with
extension pieces or built up sections of rolled steel.
1) (a) Centering/Staging : Staging should be as designed with required extension pieces as approved by Engineer-in-Charge to ensure proper slopes, as per design for slabs/ beams etc. and as per levels as shown in drawing. All the staging to be either of Tubular steel structure with adequate bracings as approved or made of built up structural sections made form rolled structural steel sections.
(b) In case of structures with two or more floors, the weight of concrete, centering and shuttering of any upper floor being cast shall be suitably supported on one floor below the top most floor already cast.
(c) Form work and concreting of upper floor shall not be done until concrete of lower floor has set at least for 14 days.
2) Shuttering: Shuttering used shall be of sufficient stiffness to avoid excessive deflection and joints shall be tightly butted to avoid leakage of slurry. If required, rubberized lining of material as approved by the Engineer-in-Charge shall be provided in the joints. Steel shuttering used or concreting
should be sufficiently stiffened. The steel shuttering should also be properly repaired before use and properly cleaned to avoid stains, honey combing, seepage of slurry through joints etc.
(a) Runner Joists: RSJ, MS Channel or any other suitable section of the required size shall be used as runners.
(b) Assembly of beam head over props. Beam head is an adopter that fits snugly on the head plates of props to provide wider support under beam bottoms.
(c) Only steel shuttering shall be used, except for unavoidable portions and very small works for which 12 mm thick water proofing ply of approved quality may be used.
FORMWORK DETAILS SPECIFICALLY.
1. Timber Formwork:
Timber Types of formwork was one of the first and still most used types of formwork in the construction industry. It is assembled on-site and is the most flexible types of formwork. However, before using timber formwork, its condition must be checked carefully, making sure it is free of termites.
2.Plywood Formwork:
Plywood types of formwork is an unnatural manufactured wooden sheet available in different thickness and size used in formwork for the concrete member. It is strong enough, durable and lightweight. Plywood is one of the most used materials for sheathing, decking and linings in shuttering.
3. Steel or Metallic Formwork:
Steel formwork includes panels fabricated out of thin steel plates fixed along the edges by small steel angles. The panel units can be held together using suitable clamps or bolts and nuts. This types of formwork mostly used in bridge construction work.
4. Aluminum Formwork
Aluminium types of formwork are very similar to steel formwork. The main difference is that aluminium has a lower density than steel, which makes formwork lighter. Aluminium also has a lower strength than steel, and these criteria must be considered before using it in the construction project. This formwork is economical if large numbers of repeating usage type of projects are made in Construction. The main disadvantage is that no alteration is possible once the formwork is constructed.
5. Plastic Formwork:
Plastic formwork is executed by interlocking panels or modular systems, made of lightweight and robust plastic. Plastic formwork works best in small projects consisting of repetitive tasks, such as low-cost housing estates. It can be used for simple concrete structures.
6. Coffor Formwork:
Coffor is a stay in place formwork system. It is consist of two filtering grids which is reinforced by vertical & horizontal stiffeners and linked by articulated connectors which can be folded to transport on-site. Coffor remains in place after the concrete is poured and acts as reinforcement. Coffor is transported to the site prefabricated from the factory. This types of Formwork shutter can be used for any type of structure like a house, multistory buildings etc.
Mainly the types of formwork used in construction based on the structural components are:
