Fawn is also not a type, it's a color. I do agree there are only the long haired and short haired but I'd call those "varieties" rather than "types". Although I agree that the different conformational looks don't meet the AKC or other breed organizations' standards, I'd more refer to the Deer-head and Apple-head as "Types" because it's the two most common conformation styles (if you will) that the Chihuahua is most commonly bred/found in. Not saying they are correct by breed standards, they are recognizable by characteristics. They are both Chihuahuas but looks like two different breeds of dog. Deer style is long, tall, slender, pointed head, long muzzle, basically resembles a deer. Apple style has a round head, larger more pronounced eyes, short square body, tiny short muzzle, more dwarfed features as a whole. Although both indicate incorrect breeding and there are lots of flaws that come into play by incorrect breeding, those two individual conformation styles are more distinct than any other in the Chihuahua breed....therefore making it more appropriate to define those two as "types". Just my opinion.

What makes you think it's a cavalier mix? My long coat has floppy ears and an unusual face for a chi, but I have no clue why. Maybe something similar?

Mine is half-chihuahua and half miniature pinscher. Long-legged slender with a deer head and a nice brown coat of fur and beautiful hazel eyes. And would not trade her for the world.

Mine was an AKC baby (short hair applehead, now a 3-year-old just under 5-lbs) with a mouth on him that can be heard two blocks away. I never worry about being mugged with my Personal Security Guard Dog on Duty. Off-duty, he earns his treats.

in fact, deer head is a different kind of chihuahua, they are the original chihuahuas, before they were mixed by foreigners.

Actually, they all have a (genuine breed) apple-shaped head. That is what distinguishes them from when they are mixed.

I have a smaller Chihuahua, 6 pounds, I spend a lot of time explaining to people, she is not a tea cup and there is no such thing! Kia, is my fur baby and rides in my purse, while, I shop.

abigailhamiltonactor the standard states that max. weight is 3kg. You dog is eaither a very poor bred chihuahua or a mix, most likely the latter as deer is I corret according to the standard. Just becaus it’s a smaller dog, do not mean it’s a chihuahua.
