I saw the lunar eclipse yesterday plus Orion pointing at the Pleiades to the right and Sirius to the left!! it was amazing

In my culture there is a story about the Ursa Major (great bear) that the bear used to have a long tail and was tricked into losing it which is why they have small tails now.

Da minha casa tenho visão de orion, cão maior e cão menor (Brasil) sempre que o céu está limpo, minha constelação favorita é cassiopeia, planejo viajar para algum lugar que consiga ver ela algum dia, amo astronomia e estou adorando aprender mais no canal, seria bom se mais vídeos tivessem legendas para português

I stumbled upon this while looking for other astronomical videos. It is certainly a great introduction for beginners. The information wasn't new to me since I've been an amateur astronomer since my childhood, but it is very well-presented. The only thing I would have added is a passing mention that there are southern circumpolar constellations that never rise in our latitudes. Camelopardalis I suspect you left out of the circumpolar constellations because there are no bright stars in it. But it has some great deep sky objects. :)

Thank you for your comment. My hope is to reach beginners, so I'm glad you picked up on that. You are correct about why I didn't include Camelopardalis. I myself haven't really been able to point the pattern out. I will be sure to learn more about the objects in this constellation.

Those Circum polar constellations you have mentioned are only found in northern hemisphere. Try to find also those of the southern hemisphere

Actually, the Southern Hemisphere has circumpolar constelllations too, depending on the latitude- but, as there isn't a true star at the South Celestial Pole, and less people live in the Southern Hemisphere, they're not talked about as much.

I actually started this channel 4 years ago when I was applying to become a teacher at Khan Academy. I didn’t make the cut, but even so, I’m glad I started this venture. I’ve learned so much in the process and enjoy doing this.

Thank you I think we can shall may vphv understand the importance and meaning of stars and constellations....In telugu there are around 27 nakshatras recognized as Janma nakshatram, And in english there are around 88 but I think we can shall may vphv recognize 12 major ones as actual constellations And similarly in hindi too

My circumpolar 1st magnitude stars are; Capella, Vega and Deneb with Capella being the closet to the celestial pole.

Indian zodiac is divided into 27 zodiacal constellations or asterisms called nakshatras; the 12 signs are still used. Vedic astrology is still mainly sidereal.

I think the constellation that is being considered a zodiac constellation cause the sun passes through it, i think that was supposed to be our 13, because we used to have 13 months.

The ecliptic is a path the sun travels? Would it be true to say The ecliptic is a plane in which the sun and the earth hold positions? I guess I need a picture.

Background sky/stars we see from earth always revolve once per year since earth revolving sun, from earth view that's make the sun pass different zodiacal constellations every month, the path explain which constellation passes through year

This map shows all the constellations in the sky. The blue area is the Milky Way, and the green line is the ecliptic, or path of the sun in the sky throughout the year.

Yes, definitely. And technically, there are more than 12 zodiacal constellations. The sun passes through a total of 21 constellations.

Yes, it is considered circumpolar. I often focus on the main five circumpolar constellations because they are more visible.

Your latitude could have something to do with it. The closer you are to the equator the longer you can see it for.
