Are personal experiences and outside knowledge considered to be weaker than historical or literature-based evidence? Basically, will it hurt my score?

It really depends on the execution. In general, I prefer historical or current events as evidence. Personal experience works well for some prompts as long as it is a related and meaningful example. It won’t automatically hurt your score. Just choose the most convincing evidence for your argument.
