I lived in Gettysburg for a long time. Ive seen both residual and intelligent hauntings.

Great explanations. The night my Dad passed away my sisters heard kitchen cabinets slamming shut, in the middle of the night. 😯

I wouldn't having a residual haunting in my home. It would be a bit creepy, yes, but it's much better than a poltergeist.

I’ve never personally witnessed this phenomenon, but my grandmother did not long after her grandfather died a long time ago. At the house that he built, she and her grandmother were doing their thing when they heard him coming home from work. He would whistle as he was coming down the road. So out of habit my grandmother went to open the door for him, but then remembered that he was gone. She and my 2nd great grandmother both witnessed seeing him walk down the side of the road, turn and come up the walkway, and then disappear as he went up the steps. I believe that no one slept in the house for a week after that. Lol.

For 20 years or more my dad got up for work and drank coffe i use to hear him every day his cup hit the table after he died i heard that sound every day till i moved out

Before my mother passed away I had moved back in with her for a bit. She would get up all the time through the night. She had a distinct walk where she would pop and snap from her bones being stiff from laying down. Anywho, I started noticing that I was hearing her walking around at night...but she would be in bed. The thought occurred to be that it was her residually haunting her own home. Then she passed away untimely at 48, and I wondered if it was her astral body preparing for take off. I was wondering-Have you found any correlation between residually haunting oneself only to pass away shortly after? P.S. Thanks weirdo for doing these videos. Happy to see you putting in your two cents about the paranormal once again. You recorded a video for me while in Saint Augustine, FL when you were here in town last that my pal recorded on his phone 'cause I couldn't make it. I think I did. It was in a hotel in Shawneen Town Illinois. Best way to explain it was a ball bouncing at the end of the bed but down low by the dresser. It wasn’t just me who seen it my husband did as well.

Can you explain further the residual haunt of yourself? I'm intrigued.

The only types of ghosts that I’ve seen in my life I believe to have been residual. The first one I saw was when I was walking down the stairs when I was back in elementary school, heading from the bathroom back to the after school program I was in. Walking down the stairs, I clearly saw a man with white skin and a greyish tan suit come walking up the stairs and looked like he was talking to someone, but he was see through. I wasn’t scared, more so weirded out. I was about 8 or 9 at the time, and really just wanted to know when the school was built. It turns out it was built in the early 1900s, but moved in the 00s to where it is now, so I’m thinking that guy must’ve been a residual effect of when the school opened or something like that. The other one I saw was around that age too, when my dad was driving me to my moms house in a trailer park. I, clearly outside my window, saw a man with white hair, a short white beard, plaid vest, red undershirt and red pants walking a white Irish terrier looking dog down the road. I ask my dad if he saw it, but he said he didn’t. I think that was also a residual ghost.

I am confident I experienced a residual haunt as a child (although encountered intelligent experiences as well!) We had 3 bedrooms upstairs. Our parents had the downstairs bedroom. None of my siblings nor I wanted the most spacious room of the upstairs because on occasion, in the middle of the night, the closet door would creek open, you would hear heavy boot type footsteps across the floor and it would seem to stop its path right next to the bed. You turn on the light and nothing was there. It was baffling! It was a very old home in the country. Once, a previous resident (approximately 50 years had past since he resided there) stopped by and asked us if we ever experienced anything "unusal." My brother and I knew what he was referring to! Grant, your explaination of "conditions being right" pieced this puzzle together for me. My siblings and I could never understand why some nights this event would take place and why other nights it would not. Although, it happened so frequently that on nights we didnt experience anything, we chalked it up to having "slept through it." Furthermore, it didnt matter when you rearranged the furniture....it would still take approx the same amount of steps then stop, following the same path even when that meant walking right though newly moved furniture. What an amazing home that was. After remaining vacant for a number of years, someone bought it, remodeled it, then abrubtly moved. I head they did not finish the remodeling projects. I had many experiences there (as did my brother) including a full figure apparition. I was so frightened as a child and hated living there. It was all so traumatizing to a young girl...but now that I am older, i am so drawn to the paranormal and incredibly intrigued. What I would give to spend another night in that home in upstate NY! In the interim, I have done some of my own investigations in Key West, St. Augustine's and more as a resident of the state of Florida for the last 4 years. Also, as a Disney season pass holder, I have to admit I did wonder about the Haunted Mansion! I watched your video there....thanks for saving me the time! Haha! Keep up the great work! And again, thanks for the clarification on residual haunts! I wonder if it was part of the structure of the home or if boots were buried somewhere in the walls!! I know this, i am not afraid any more thanks to you and your team's initial work on Ghost Hunters as well as the current efforts you continue to explore and explain for the greater public. It continues to help people understand the "why's." Knowledge is power!! I thank you for sharing!

I have run across all manner of residual, in fact the good kind as well. It gets super frustrating when the good residual is ignored for the negative. The good is just as cool and the bad. These are places of high energy feelings. Having both strong empathetic and seer abilities I get a great mix of both. It is kind of easy to clear that energy by changing it or making it less big. You recycle it. Something that has been a growing skill it is not for everyone, it is easy to explain but you have to be super comfortable with a lot of things in order to do this. I explain best with examples. If I touch that residual I can mix the angry with understanding and compassion and what comes out is smaller and more manageable. It sometimes just dissipates, but other times it needs to have a constant opposite or challenging high emotion to sort it out. So manageable. You have to really understand your emotions and be able to pick through them. You have to be able to understand and study an insane amount of knowledge about mankind and cultures from around the world. You have no idea what age this energy is or what it came from and you must be able to understand the circumstances that created it. If you do not know, just let it go. I am very very good at knowing what I am dealing with. It is SUPER COOL.

Great video Grant, never really gave it the thought to locate the source. I've dealt with a few of them. But I have been having experiences since my Grandmother passed back in 1988. It's been like that one event opened the door for it. I have just opted to live with it... as long as it doesn't steal my tater tots!

There are some events that defy logic/explanation. We just don't know enough about the supernatural or even science to accurately explain hauntings/ghost sightings.

John C. is correct, Wm Roll is a great source for info as is Dean Radin and L Auerbach. Here is what you do to help with residuals...you record over whatever is there. SInce Grant is right in that this is recorded in the location by something, go to the same location and do something great, sing, dance something with strong positive emotions. Make that area your own. Do this several times because the location may need different conditions, time, temp, humidity or who knows what. This works most of the time. Places where strong emotions such as old brothels are great for these impressions. In homes you can often hear kitchen rattling that repeat as it is often the heart of the home and where families gather laugh and cry, but we hear those noises so often we don’t pay attention.

Greetings, I just got here. Love your channel ❤️ This video seems to be 4 years old so I don't know if you would come here to see my question or not. Was thinking of going to your Twitter channel. I've always wanted an opinion on this? I was working alone in a small retail store. I came in after hours to set the sale ad for the next day. The store was locked up and the alarm was set. It was between midnight and 2am. There was absolutely no sound there. No fans, no generator, no humming, no Muzak. Totally quiet. Sitting on the floor toward the back of the store and in front of the meat and seafood case, I was organizing signage. Then I heard someone at the front of the store walking towards me. Very distinct, heavy footsteps and rustle of clothing walked up to and past me. I saw no one. Later, I moved to the very back of the store to finish my signage sorting and about two feet behind me was the staircase that led up to the offices. Old wooden, creaky stairs. There was no back door. Then I heard someone walking up the stairs. I heard each foot step clearly come down and ascend to the top of the stairs. Again, I so no one. There were no cold spots, no scent, I was not touched and my electronic equipment ran perfectly. Because retail stores are open seven days a week with dozens of people working there walking the same pathways repeatedly. Do you think what I experienced happens in all retail stores and would be heard if someone was there in the middle of the night sitting quietly and listening?

Residual hauntings are said to be triggered by the energy that living people bring to a location. It could be love, anger/rage, hate, envy etc.. Each emotions produces a certain frequency that will trigger the event. I could be wrong of course.

I've witnessed residual haunting of a little boy that would jump across my hallway once in a while. It always terrified me because I was a kid and didn't understand. Why would limestone and quartz deposits effect a haunting?

Hi Grant, about a year ago there was an accident on a curved roadway right next to the building of the apartments in which I live. The curve is right by the building and it’s visible from our apartment windows and it’s know to have caused a lot of car crashes. Ever since this specific accident where a car cashes into a cement post and nearly kills a woman by running her over, my family and I hear a loud crash at around 11pm or 12pm. It’s weird because we don’t hear it every night but we hear it every 2-3 months at around the same time, and every time we check to see if there was a crash we see nothing, no car crashed, no cops, no people in the streets that may seem to be hurt, nothing. Could this be a residual haunting??

I do a lot of high voltage testing for power companies. One time, I was testing a bucket truck, and I had everything grounded. After the test was complete, I went over to grab the lead off the boom when I was hit with a small amount of current. It literally ruined my week. I could not figure out how the current stayed within the fiberglass. Why did it not go ground?? So I just called it residual. It did not go to ground and just sat there until I touched it. I have witnessed ghosts myself and could not explain it until I had this experience with the current not going to ground. I can't explain why the current didn't go to ground, it just sat there. I've been doing this line of work for nearly thirty years, it only happened once.

Sometimes it hard to know if a haunting is residual or intelligent is hard as some places we may heard footsteps but there nobody there and we get direct EVP answers

Well I don't think I've witnessed a residual haunting but a haunting and what I did was actually pretty shocking at my age to do then (keep in mind I witnessed the paranormal when I was 8) I actually started to investigate anything that I heard was haunted at my camp ground the lake were a father and son drowned in to a little girl who died of cancer inside the main building

Would hear footsteps up and down my grandparents old farmhouse spiral staircase when i was asleep upstairs, and the wood stove lid in the kitchen/living room downstairs sound like it opened and closed, very spooky when all you are hearing is the crickets outside chirping away. Apparently my great grandfather died of natural causes in the house, perhaps we were hearing him?

My dog passed away and I’m experiencing residual haunting. It’s in the same spot and he stands up and sits down. It even sets off my indoor camera. I’m constantly getting notifications that their is motion in my upstairs area. I think I would have to get rid of that part of the carpet to get rid of it

At times, I believe that who ever is in my home is partaking in intelligent hauntings, but sometimes they seem residual as well. When we first moved into the home it was just vaporous dark masses swaying in the entry way, then graduated to it poking it's head around the corner, then to it playing tricks on me. The standing in the entry way and popping it's head around the corner definitely seemed residual. But the tricks the spirit were playing on me got more and more intense (hiding things and placing them in the guest bedroom closet that no one ever uses.) Finally, my mom had enough, I wouldn't even come home for holidays, and she talked to the spirit and told it to stop messing with me. We did a little research and found out that the gentleman who lived in the home had a caretaker in his later years of life. She had brown hair, like me, and was around the same age as me. I think that who ever it is, just remembers playing tricks on his nurse and continues to do so. Haven't had anything happen since the talk.

Thanks that answers a question I've always wondered which was... if a residual haunting is just energy from a past event, then can there be residuals of people who are still alive. I wasn't sure of anyone else had ever considered that. 🤔

Hey Grant I have a question for you. When I was 16 or 17 years old I was staying with my aunt and uncle, they had three daughters, one night I was awoken by a little girl crying, I jumped up because I thought maybe one of my cousins were hurt. I looked in their rooms but they were all asleep but I still heard the crying, I looked all over and never did find anything. This happened maybe 3 more times then it stopped. It never happened again after that and I stayed there for 4 months. What do think it was, I am baffled. I told my Aunt and Uncle they never heard anything my grandmother, who was there to never heard anything either, could I have hallucinated. Please help me understand what happened.

I just found out about residual haunting after doing some ghost hunting and tours! This is never really spoken about, is it? We immediately assume it's a ghost, some form of intelligent hunting. I'm flabbergasted with this information, hahaha! It couldn't be more fascinating if it tried! So, residual hunting is never, ever a ghost?? Could you please reconfirm that?

Can a residual haunting be experienced at four different places? One of which the person, while alive, had never been to??

If moving the material away to another location, would the residual haunting happen there? Or if you move it away and the hauntings are gone, a month later you move it back, would the hauntings come back? How do you neutralized the haunting/energy of the material anyway?

Does blessing the material its trappend in not work either?

Grant, So I have an Old Wooden Desk that used to belong to my GrandParents.. could their Spirits still be attached to it even after Death? At the same time every night between 10:00-11:00pm I would smell Cigarette Smoke Near it but I don’t smoke and feel Cold Spots or hear conversations near it. Is that Residual haunt?

Mr. Wilson can I send you some pictures I took on the Gettysburg Battlefield on July 2, 2017. I can't figure out what the ball of light is in the middle of the battlefield. It moves in several pitures and grows in size. The Paranormal group I went with can't figure it out either. My brother also has pictures from a night investigation and we capture about 18 soldiers and 6 horses in several of his photos. How can I send them if you want to look at them and Thank you for reading this lengthy post.

I've been involved researching and investigating since the 1980's. Now that my parents are gone and I now live in their house I had been seeing (along with an ex girlfriend and her dog) residual activity of my late Dad every night around 10:30 coming from the master bedroom and going into the kitchen for a drink possibly!? One night the dog went crazy as if it wanted to attack my Dad! I figure my Dad may be only playing with the dog. I hear there is some controversy about residual energy not being intelligent, but this may have proved that theory wrong!? In any event I ended up having a local Native shaman come and rid the house of all spirits. Far as I can tell there is no longer any activity here, but on occasions I do pick up figures with my ARCAM (3D mapping cam). As always I walk away saying "MAYBE" since it is my goal to debunk everything scientifically as well as logically!
