1. Definitive Hosts
Definition: Hosts in which a parasite reaches maturity and reproduces sexually.
Examples:
Humans for Plasmodium species (malaria).
Dogs for Echinococcus granulosus (tapeworm).
2. Intermediate Hosts
Definition: Hosts in which a parasite undergoes development but does not reach maturity.
Examples:
Snails for Schistosoma species.
Mosquitoes for Plasmodium species.
3. Paratenic (Transport) Hosts
Definition: Hosts that carry the parasite to another host without undergoing any development.
Examples:
Rodents for Toxocara canis (dog roundworm).
Birds for Alaria species.
4. Reservoir Hosts
Definition: Hosts that harbor parasites and act as sources of infection for other susceptible hosts.
Examples:
Wild mammals for Trypanosoma cruzi (Chagas disease).
Dogs for Leishmania species (leishmaniasis).
5. Accidental Hosts
Definition: Hosts in which a parasite is not normally found, leading to atypical or dead-end infections.
Examples:
