Air powered cylinders are an awesome tool for prop makers, inventors and hobbyists of all types! FrightProps offers a wide array of cylinder sizes and types. Here we take a quick look at some of the most common types of cylinders available and explain a few of the common terms used when discussing pneumatic cylinders.

Definitions of Terms You Will Hear in This Video:
Stroke: The length that the cylinder rod extends.
Bore: The diameter (or thickness) of the cylinder body.
Universal Mount: A cylinder that has mounting threads at both ends.
Nose Mount: A cylinder that only has mounting threads at the nose (or front) of the cylinder.
Double Acting; A cylinder that uses the force of air both to extend and retract the cylinder rod.
Single Acting; A cylinder that uses the force of air to extend the cylinder rod, but uses an internal spring to retract it.
Reverse Acting: A cylinder that uses the force of air to retract the cylinder rod and an internal spring to extend it.

Great video, any idea on how to calculate the speed/time it takes to extend and retract?

Hi can I use your company's cylinder to push things at its both ends while letting the cylinder to slide "freely" only in its axis direction by constraining it in a through hole? So the Cylinder is kinda like floating.

There are double end cylinders, or possible 2 of these cyliders back to back connected by a barrel nut. Keep in mind that your air fittings typically stick out the side of the cylinder, so its usually best to secure the cylinder body especially if youre dealing with a lot of weight and/or pressure.

Can you disassemble your cylinders or are they permanently sealed shut?

Sir what is the total length of the cylinder itself and the stroke?

So if they open but don't return what dose that mean
@couryrussell7653

Chicago Pyro it depends on the type of cylinder you're using. If it's a double action cylinder you don't have pressure to the return line causing it to retract to its default position

Hey Scott. I was wondering if it is possible to hook one port of two 2 way cylinders together? The idea is that one would be extended when the other is retracted. Something to experiment with... I found this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ctH7bFfu3tQ.html I also wonder why no one has ever, or I have never seen a curved air cylinder.

BRO FRIGHT P: "CAN U TELL ME WHAT THIS MEANS:"63596 American Pneumatic Cylinder 750DNS-0.62-32 1/8 Ports 5/8 Stroke" I WANT TO BUILD A PNUEMATIC CUTTER DEVICE w/ENUF FORCE TO CUT THRU ONIONS; TO MAKE "ONION BLOSSOMS"[FOOD ITEM]. I NEED TO CUT THEM QUICKLY; BUT NOT ALL THE WAY THRU. DOES THIS CYLINDER MEAN IT WILL ONLY EXTEND 5/8" INCHES? I'M HAVING TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING CLEARLY WHAT KIND OF PNEUMATIC CYCLINDER I NEED & THE "FORCE" I NEED TO ACHIEVE THIS. DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I'M EXPLAINING CORRECTLY. SORRY TY MARGO-KCITY
@kermitfrog3789
@kermitfrog3789 5 месяцев назад
YES THAT MEANS IT ONLY EXTENDS 5/8 OF AN INCH. A 1IN BORE WOULD GIVE 50LBS OF FORCE AT 60 PSI WHICH SHOULD BE PLENTY OF POWER. YOU SHOULD LOOK AT FLUID POWER CALCULATORS BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING THO.
