Maybe a root canal isn't necessary in cases of external root absorption if it hasn't penetrated any roots. Should we be cautious of dentists who want a more expensive procedure?
I had the abscess situation. Went through the surgery with zero pain. The surgery is divided into two parts. The recovery time to take at least 6- 1 year.
I just got diagnosed with internal resorption. The teeth that are affected were damaged when I was little in a car accident. Dentist was able to fix it because they were pushed backwards in my mouth but since they were new adult teeth I guess they were able to save them. 21 years later and I get the diagnosis. I'm not sure if this was the reason for the problem, but it seems like it's linked. If not, then I'm not sure of another cause for me except the infection that was found with it.
@@jeff_9074 only two options for my worst tooth but it doesn't mean it's a cure: either extraction of affected tooth and have to deal with a partial/bridge... Whatever it's called, or attempt a root canal. My dentist is trying to discourage me from the root canal. My whole mouth is a mess though. If my previous reply is a little contradictory, it's because I forgot what I commented on for a minute. They're both connected to each other, at least for my mouth. 😅
@Waterpassion thanks for the response! Do you feel any pain or sensitivity? I was diagnosed with internal root resorption after some tenderness on one side of the gum. Tooth feels fine otherwise no pain or sensitivity.. options are oral surgery, cut gum open and fix from outside plus root canal, plus only 70% chance of success with no guarantee over 5yrs.. otherwise extraction.. I'm wondering what will happen if I just left it. When I ask questions to specialist, they seem unforsure as there isn't a lot of knowledge on this currently. It's frustrating.. and the last thing I want to do is pull a decent tooth or do a root canal on something that mat spontaneously stop on its own, or last many years still.. but I don't want to cause damage to surrounding bone or tissue if that's a risk to leaving it. No one can give me straight answers.
@@jeff_9074 honestly I'm about as lost on this situation myself. 😔 I didn't have sensitivity except bleeding while brushing. They kept telling me to brush more, they'll get used to it and stop bleeding. I'm like, how? It's been blowing like this since I was a small child... Anyways, my canine that's beside the problematic teeth lost it's filling a couple years ago and the dentist refuses to refill it because he's a different dentist than who actually filled the cavity. That's not his reason but it's mine. Anyways, it just recently became sensitive and they really want to extract it. It's been 6 months to 1 year since he first diagnosed me with these issues. I look at it this way, if it looks okay and it feels okay, let it be. Maybe increase the mouthwash or something for any infections or plaque issues but besides that, I wouldn't bother with it until it's necessary.
A Herbo omg me too. my braces are coming off in two months and i’ve only had them for 8 months. luckily my teeth are already straight i guess. glad i’m not the only one going through this though!
@@mint_soup9743 my dentist told me when I got X rays done for a regular 6 month clean up and then she told my orthodontist. But ig a sign would be if you could wiggle your teeth and its more than normal.
@@mint_soup9743 it mainly depends on your families genetics but putting on braces does lead to external root resorption due to the production of enzymes during the movement of teeth causd by the braces.(sometimes it may be upto 50% but often times it’s only 10% to 12 %)
Omg, so do I. I have lost all my teeth except the front ones so far. I don't have dental insuance. Did your Medical insurance pay anything for you? I used to have such beautiful teeth.
