Its funny that people think because you have a "disability" you cant contribute any thing to society but this man is a genus in my eyes, great work sir.
As a painter myself I'm beyond impressed with his skill... but we shouldn't neglect to make mention of his impressive chess talent as well. Notice at 2:45 our man plays ...Bd4+ which forces the white king to f3. The video resumes a few moves later and reveals that he saw and made use of a beautiful tactic called a discovered attack. The next move was Re3+ which leaves white with another forced move, back to f2. Now, although the knight on c3 is protected by the pawn on b2, black is able to make use of his bishop on d4 in a special way by moving the rook over to c3--capturing the knight--and at the same time exposing white's king to the scope of the bishop. White is unable to recapture the rook in this move as he has to move his king and black is now certainly winning. 0-1 Good game.
Just more proof of the amazing perseverance of the human mind. I think Paul is a reminder that although society doesn't like to admit the existence of those deemed 'in need,' great humanity can exist in any body.
Oh what I would haven given to have met this brilliant man with a big heart. I’m just seeing this in the time of Covid, May 2020. Thank you for posting! This is truly inspirational. I am a painter whose works had been in galleries, and I am so impressed with this man labeled “handicapped” and what he has done. I’m completely baffled why ANYONE would be so heartless to give this a thumbs down.
+Spacemonkeymojo or maybe they disliked this because this video made them feel sad that paul has to go through this disease or that this video reminded them of their family member or friend who also suffered from this condition
+Kelvin HJD If that would be the case these people should, on the contrary, celebrate that someone like Paul can still achieve amazing things like that giving other people with the same desease hope.
+Kelvin HJD I would _never_ dislike a video because of trials someone went through or referenced. I only dislike videos if I'm offended, so like Spacemonkeymojo, I really fail to understand why people would dislike such a touching video as this.
Lavenderrose73 dont get me wrong but i dont understand too. I was watching some michael jackson videos and someone commented that she had to dislike the video because it made her cry (the user said she missed him a lot) lol!!
@@wakeupsheepleNWOREALit refers to DOSS-type keyboard characters. ASCIOI Art was a fad among creative DOS nerds. Google "ASCII Art" for examples (very cool stuff considering the self-imposed limitations)
@@NatandGeorge when you think, ASCII was first used for the layout of the types of teletypewriters (sorry if it's not the correct english word) and he uses a typewriter if i understand correctly since childhood to create art, he was the first man that used ASCII Art😊
I just had this sent to me tonight, 3/2021, and all I can say is WOW!!!!! How would you ever discover this talent!? And how amazing it would be to get your hands on a piece of that art!!
I've heard of different gifted people, but I had tears when I saw what this wonderful, happy man could do. His artistic work is so amazing! I paint, but I could never ever paint anything as beautiful as his typewriter. Much love to him❤ Thank you for showing his wonderful work!❤🤗🌻
Mysterious ways? hmmm.. he sounds like a mean if not hateful guy. Causing disease, famine, natural disasters, allowing wars, destruction and horrific death. Even the pain of the very young and very innocent. For all of these (if he really existed) he could easily intervene. And yet he doesn't? Thats the mystery. :-)
Amazing, beautiful work, Astonishing talent. I never heard of Mr Smith before coming here today, and was sad to find out of his passing a few years back, his work, if it isn't already, should be hanging along side other masterpieces in galleries, they are on a level far above what passes for art these days.
This is absolutely incredible. Some people will think because of his disibility, he has no talent, he has no real thoughts going on in his brain. But this defies all of that. He is incredibly talented. If only he could use pens and paints, he'd probably be one of the world's most respected artists by now. Amazing. My hat goes off to this man.
I am so proud of this gentleman's work , and he's so humble. I would even like to get one of his works if I could get in touch with him. I admire him and his paintings. Amazing work! I'm sorry, I didn't know he had passed away until I read the comment below. Now I feel sad I hadn't seen this before. RIP Mr. Smith.
Aww wow!! bless Paul!! Such an inspiration. Really liked the part when they said if someone says they could never do that about his art, he replies 'what can you do?' Amazing! X
It's nice to see that someone can still find a way to be artistic with a horrible disability like that. Plus he seems like an incredibly nice guy. I'd rather meet someone like him more than any entitled celebrity any day.
Despite his disability he can still make a master piece ! I didn't have a disability and still no talent for arts , but this guy tho ! people should be inspired with his artwork , r.i.p for this genius man 🙏
ASCII art on a masterpiece level... just, wow. And you couldn't even do this on a computer... I never even thought about how old typewriters' alignment issues could be taken advantage of like this... But yeah, I guess you really would only need characters like # = + - ( ) . , / \ to perfectly simulate pointillism, pen strokes, and cross-hatching... Which also means that he can'tve made rough versions, he would've had to have done it all manipulating his one sole copy available to him. Impressive to be able to do that when copying by eyesight... even a traditional artist would struggle with that.
I cried through the whole video ,this is so precious. He is a very talented man and so full of love. I would love to see all of his work I bet it's beautiful.
Beautiful works from a beautiful soul! The Powers that Be must smile down on one so creative and enduring, and an expression that will last for many lifetimes to come.
This man makes the very, very BEST of what he has and what he can do....his determination and patience know no limits! What an amazing example he is for all of us!
Just always count your blessings. When I see this I feel I have no problems. My granddaughter has cerebral palsy and confined to a wheelchair but she is not near this severe and I've always counted my blessings that she can talk, and do everything else other than walk.
Huh? So, this guy, an amazing man of perseverance through incredible difficulty is unpraised by the media, yet we have Bruce Jenner being portrayed as a great hero by the media? Something is wrong with this picture.
matt slick Welcome to our liberal governed society. Either accept someones life choice, or suffer consequences..How are they any different than the far right conservatives?
It takes courage to get your genitalia lopped of in this pro-perversion society, and people who stand up for biblical principles in a Bible-hostile society are "bigots".
***** You're belief in the regularity of nature (which cannot be verified universally) and moral absolutes (which cannot exist without God) are beliefs in themselves that you cannot substantiate. How then do you justify such knowledge? Go ahead and bury your head in the sand and raise the liberal flag and march, lockstep, happily in the direction of societies moral degradation.
How about gifting Paul "THE CHROMATIC TYPEWRITER:- *Washington-based painter Tyree Callahan modified a 1937 Underwood Standard typewriter by replacing the letters and keys with color pads and hue labels to create a functional painting typewriter, dubbed the Chromatic Typewriter"
Just more proof of what the power of God can do. It transforms lives. It gives people a reason to live, a love for beauty, and a creative passion. He says his talent is a gift from God. Do I believe it? Yes I do.
+jim jimmy I think they don't mean "god", but the "believe in god". Maybe there's no "god" who gave him this power, but it doesn't matter, because he believed in god. This belief gave him this "power".
I dont see how the @ sign is from a Typewriter, it looks hand drawn to me as do alot of other symbals, maybe its been changed to suit.. In two minds!!!
+Deano Essex Yea I am a bit skeptical and don't usually accept things wholesale ..... I believe he is truly talented but the finished piece seems to be enhanced significantly... Look at the pic of the Dog... it looks so much more basic. Maybe someone finishes his artwork to get the amazing final product.... still amazing either way
+Deano Essex and +liquidmist81 -- From an article: "Different symbols created the look of varied textures, and depending on the look Paul was attempting to achieve, he would adjust the spacing to type the symbols in short proximity, or far. And, he adjusted the roller to perfect spaces between lines. As technology advanced, his art evolved. The invention of color typewriter ribbons, gave Paul the flexibility to layer in color. He would soon press his thumb on the ribbon to create shade. By using keystrokes, repetition, and an eraser, his pictures took on less of a pen-and-ink look and more of a pastel and charcoal appearance. He would preplan his approach and develop a scaling system to reproduce photographs." That's from the Cerebral Palsy org site: cerebralpalsy.org/inspiration/artists/paul-smith/
+MrProgressor73 I can understand not bothering to rate this at all, but to take the time to downvote it must be a sign of a person who is very unhappy with him- or herself.
I am totally impressed. He even has a reproduction of a Paul Detlifson painting we had over the couch in our living room. What a guy! No whining here. God love this man.
