stephen smith Prince Markie Dee paved the way for heavy weight rappers. If it wasn't for him and the FatBoys. There would probably be no fat rappers. Peace!
prince markie dee embraced the new jack swing once he went solo. Even though markie dee was around before heavy d and grand puba the sound of his fat boys stuff is totally different than this. New jack swing was in full force by the time prince markie dee released this.
Shout out and R.I.P to Prince Markie D. When Buffy lived in Rosedale on Hook Creek Blvd. I was a shorty walking home and you and him gave me a ride to Green Acres Mall. I also went to I.S. 59 with your producer Mark C. Rooney we were in chorus together!! As an 8th grader he brought THE HOUSE down with his version of Ribbon in the Sky by Stevie Wonder at our winter concert. Big up MY Dude..rest in power.
Just heard about him passing a few hours ago. And his birthday is tomorrow!!! Wow!!! Ranked as one of the largest pioneering MCs of our generation. Rest In Power, Prince Markie Dee.
Today is a sad day. To hear Prince Markie Dee passed away yesterday in Miami, hurt. I was a kid when the Fat Boys came out, but as soon as I heard one of them was 🇵🇷, I immediately became a fan. He paved the way for other 🇵🇷 rappers like Fat Joe and Big Pun. I was just listening to him on Rock The Bells Radio on Wednesday and now he’s gone. 😔😔😔 #ripprincemarkiedee
Yeah! When this first dropped I was all smiles, cause I remember when The Fat Boys first came on the scene and it was an excellent come back for Prince Markie D !!!
Had this taped off radio in early 93. Way after Fat Boys had fallen off. Great little comeback for him when gangsta and that NYC Grimey/underground shit bubblin (Black Moon, Onyx, etc). RIP LEGEND
Unfortunately I think Marky D was not given a fair chance in the game. Being a lifelong hip hop fan, I really do not think people realized how ground breaking the Fat Boys were. These dudes were not only "Fat" they could flow, but of course the game did not know what they had during the time. It was the golden era of rap and so many rappers were in the bunch. I don't know if it was management or something else but he definitely had potential. Did a damn good job on producing Mary J's Real Love as well.
