In todays video I show you all of the steps necessary to install a Tyre/Tire pressure monitoring system to your 4wd vehicle or caravan. Having a TPMS system fitted to your vehicle or caravan/camper trailer can be a beneficial safety device. The Tire/Tyre pressure monitoring system can give you an early warning if there is damage or and issue with one of the tyres of your vehicle of caravan.
In todays video I talk you through some of the benefits of fitting a tyre/tire pressure monitoring system to your vehicle or caravan. I also give you a thorough DIY tutorial on how to install the monitoring system to your vehicle. In todays video I fit the Oricom TPS10-4E external tyre pressure monitoring system to my 2018 Isuzu Mu-x. I show you how to fit the sensors externally to the tyre valve and also how to mount the main display unit securely in the vehicle.

I hope you enjoyed watching my Oricom Tyre/tire pressure monitoring install. This is an easy DIY install and all of the tools necessary to carry out the job are included in the kit. TPMS is a very handy tool to have when it comes to 4wding, touring or towing. Being able to monitor your tyre pressures in real time can give you a real advantage to get the best possible fuel economy by maintaining optimal tyre pressures. Also reduce the risk of costly tyre repairs or the need to replace damaged tyres. The TPMS is a safety system with built in alarms and visual warnings to alert the user that a low tyre pressure or high tyre temperature has occured.
The Oricom TPMS system can be expanded to run wirelessly with up to 10 sensors. This means that you can monitor up to 10 tyres at any one time to ensure that your vehicle and caravan or camper trailer tyres are looked after and monitored.
I have fitted every modification to the Isuzu MU-X myself and really enjoy filming and teaching you guys how to do the same to your own 4x4 vehicles. The modifications I have done are listed below -

I use one that is not Oricom but the display (graphics and colours) are uncannily identical. I won't be surprised if they were made from the same factory in China. Although my receiver unit is one that is stuck on the windscreen. Keeping it out of the dash top, for a tidier setup, and giving the the unit unblocked access to sunlight for charging, yet the screen is still easily visible by the driver. In the beginning, I used the spanner tool provided to tighten the nut to fully secure the sensor on the stem. But after several tyre deflation and inflation, you get annoyed with it after a while. But I've found, finger tightening the locking nut works just as well. Haven't lost one yet after 12 months use.

I've got the ORANGE in tyre TPMS, with the hardwired receiver in the tyres of my DMAX. It works great and helps a lot. The major drawbacks as the sensors are fitted inside the tyres, when I do rotations of the tyres, I never know which one is where... also they unit cannot be expanded above 4 tyres. I believe newer models can, but thats what I'm stuck with atm. Will eventually look at probably replacing it.

Great review, the only issue with these types of monitors, is when going off-road and need to deflate / inflate tyres you need to keep removing these first, then fiddle around to put them back on, for long trips and towing they are a great idea,

Hi Nick, as always another great video. I would like to see if the Solar panel in the unit can be moved to the dash only, and the unit moved to the console. So we keep the solar charging. To keep the car cooler. Please keep what you are doing, you are one of the only clear spoken presenters on 4x4 in Aus.

Hi Roger, unfortunately it can't be separated from the solar panel. You can run a micro usb cord to charge the unit if it's out of the sunlight though. Cheers

Batteries need to be replaced after 2 years. My S D TPMS is 5 years old and still using same batteries and have spare batteries 8 in all that were supplied . One thing even tho your an ambassador for oricom would beto a comparison on your brand and the S D tpms . But i dont think that will ever happen as i guess you want to keep oricom on side. Cheers

Hey Nick great video thanks, can you set the sensors individually. Ie I've got airbags as well so they are different pressures to the tires but I would like to monitor the tires plus the air bag assists Cheers Dale

Hey Dale, thanks for watching. As far as I can see it does have an adjustable threshold value. You can also calibrate the sensors into whichever position you like. So you should be able to monitor the airbags as well as the tyres on the vehicle. Just to confirm though it could be a good idea to contact oricom with your setup question just to be 100% sure as Im not ablt to test this. Cheers 🙂

Hey Michel, you just unscrew the sensor on the tyre valve each time you deflate or inflate the tyres. It will take a few more seconds but is overall an easy process.

I have a TPMS set on my 4WD, and I think they are "a must" safety gear for your 4WD. As important as having ABS or airbags. They do add a level of complexity when deflating and inflating your tyre, as they can be a pain when removing and putting them (sensors) back on. But the benefits TPMS provide outweighs that little inconvenience.

Following your review I went and bought a set. I have found two problems with the system: 1) The display is impossible to read if you use polarising sunglasses (and who doesn't!) 2) I'm not an idiot, but I found the instructions to be unclear and not easy to follow.

Hi Nick, I’ll be interested to see how long the main module lasts. I’ve run an Orion and an OBD2, both brands shit the module in 6-8 months, usually internal battery because of solar panel failure. I bought the missus a cig plug run module 5 years ago, and bar changing the TPM wheel batteries every 2 years- zero problems.

Thanks for the feedback Jeff. The good thing is you can charge from the usb port on the side of the unit if something ever happens to the solar panel. They come with a 12 month warranty as well. I will continue to test them and give a more long term review down the track. 🙂

Greatest piece of garbage I have ever bought. Bought the first one and it did not work. Took it back and got it home read your guide and a couple of others . Followed precisely and it does not work. Took it back and they spoke to BMpro and that did not help. It’s like their BMPro caravan system. Not worth the money and indeed sent the units from the van back twice which they replaced. Have got rid of the van and no more BMPro stuff for me . I have three chances and that’s enough I reckon

Sorry I didn’t find this helpful in adjusting the settings. I have tried several times using the instructions and you tube including yours and there is not enough detail about how to move on for one wheel to the next etc. installation was easy

You will need to program the sensors and activate the trailer in the setting mode. It should show you how to do those things in the user guide.

Great video mate! Just wondering, do you have to use the spanner to remove the sensor every time you want to let the tyres down? Or is there a cap on the end of the sensor that allows access to the tyre valve?

My 2c. Great idea but has a few annoyances that I'm not able to work out yet. First is with polarised sunnies on, you can't read the display. Kind of sucks you can't have separate pressure alarms for vehicle and trailer tyres. Our car is on 33-34 PSI but the camper is 52PSI. Even when setting my alarm to 60 PSI, the alarm goes off even if the trailer is 52PSI. I am hoping that this is something I've done wrong and not a problem with the device, but it's annoying the piss out of me.

I think this is a bit gimmicky. In over thirty years of offroad driving from the NT, QLD, WA, NSW and VIC I have been able to pick up problem tyres by sticking to a stop and check schedule. I learned this driving military vehicles offroad. A true advantage would be a CTIS, or continuous tyre inflation system as fitted on a number of modern vehicles like the Thales Bushmaster PMV. However, I would probably go for the TPS-91 internal sensors. Spend a bit of extra time fitting and spend less time worrying about losing a sensor in a mud pit or by act of bogan scum.

I have fallen wild peaks aswell mate and I see your running 30 PSI in the video what size tyres do you have mate ? And what is a good tyre temperature to set the warning at ?

I usually run 34-36 psi in my 275/70r17 tyres. I think the temp should be set to around 60-65 degrees.

Hey mate, I have made videos for oricom showing how to do this and also how to setup the unit. If you go to the Oricom youtube channel you will find my videos showing you how. The kit they supplied me with was a 4 sensor kit just for my vehicle so that's why in this video there isn't any info on setting it up. Hope that helps. Cheers 😀

In the video you say to pull the rubber boot back over the sender unit. I tried this before fitting the unit to the tyre and there is no way the boot will fit over the sender unit

Once you have screwed the gold nut up and put the plastic cover over it, do you need undo the gold nut each time you want to inflate the tyre pressure or do you just unscrew the cover only?

You can just hold the nut with the little spanner and undo the sensor. The nut is just the to ensure you don't loose the sensors but you can actually get away with just screwing the sensors on the valve caps without nut.
