In 1994 I was staying at the Atlantic Beach Club in Negril and we wandered over to a little bar built out of palm thatch on the beach. A DJ began to start a 90 min reggae session and he played this song by Tryone Taylor. I was blown away and I actually felt tears in my eyes as I looked around, took a nice big puff on the sensei and gargled a red stripe...I knew I would remember the moment forever...Jah Bless!
Tyrone Taylor ❤ is the original and Best version of this Big Tune 🎶 🎼 My dad was a DJ in 1980s… he, his crew and my uncle Patrick would play this song 🎵 🎶 and the ladies would whine up on those men in the dances 🕺 💃🏽 Memories ❤🎉❤Great old days growing up
My dad showed me this song today, and grew up in the same neighbourhood with him in Jamaica, and the made me cry. Just the thought of losing my dad one day makes me cry, I love my dad more than I love myself, he is my best friend and the best person I’ve ever met in this world.
One night my mum played this tune 57 times on the bounce , and it still sounds absolutely brilliant. This tune is the definition of timelessness, god bless you Tyrone Taylor for your songwriting and vocal talent, you are truly missed 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
The original and best version of this classic. I lived on the west end in 1991 at Crotton grove cottages, Peewee's was my local but spent too much time at de bus, hurricane bar and many of those small great places! I met my wife there and this is 'our song'. I didn't get to see Tyrone but saw Gregory a few times, Yellowman & Ziggy. Cool times indeed for a young man. I returned and lived in Mo'bay a few years later for a year.
Very! Took my family to see the sunset at Rick's cafe years ago and this song brings back every second of that precious day, every frame of those moments with my heart beat and two kids on that trip❤
If I was younger, I'd dance the night away. Evocative song; reminds me of here in South Africa during the 80s, state police and the army terrorizing citizens, kicking doors down at night, daily marches and burnings, and yet somewhere in the background music would bring us together, soothing the thorny road we travelled to reach this point....®®®
When I was a student in Southampton back in the early 80's we used to like to go to the West Indian Club in Brintons Road, and of all the lovers rock the DJ used to play in the "erection section", Cottage in Negril was my favourite. It is such an evocative song for me, and generates so many great memories. I still have the 12" EP of it on vinyl up in my attic. Tyrone, your genius was not properly recognized. May you rest in peace.
Variety is good, everyone has different taste and should. I love this song but I like others as well. I would love to make the world in my image but I know there would be so much I would miss, or don’t know about if that was to happen, so am happy we have so much variety in this little island. Love for this type of music comes with maturity, pain, lost and understanding what is important in life.
What memories this tune brings back to me early 80s mrk 3 cortina in my prime pumping these tunes l used to get some looks but most people would start dancing and believe me it wasn't common to see a white boy with this sound
I finally cut a tribute offering to my dear friend Tyrone Taylor. His original "Little Cottage In Negril" will always be the best! His recording ayard, embodying the Vibe, taste & feel of the West End. Consistently credible! Best of times, Miss you Tyrone. OB
Ahoy Rastafarians!!! I have been looking for this song for over a decade, not knowing who is a singer, or song title. Only heard it about twice in a year, in few radio stations here in South Africa

This some make me happy and sad at the same time....You had to be around my hometown { NEGRIL} in these days to know and understand the words of this song.We alway have access to Tyrone at KOOL BROWN because he was just accross the road at MILLA'S.These days are gone never to come back, how wonderful home was back then.Everyone was like family, the tourist who came and went...Cheryll,Susan,Chris,Mark,Vickie and so much other names i can't remember..Tyrone was my friend a brother, most people no the music but you had to know the man himself.Wonderful person.
I had the privilege of meeting Tyrone at Alfred's in Negril - probably 1993-94. At my request, he sang "Little Cottage ...". I met him again when he dropped by my little cottage on the West end. He was not at his best and his demons were harassing him, but I did not judge. He sang a few lyrics from a song he said he was writing for me. Thanks, Tyrone, for the memories. RIP. ♥
Valerie Codrington Not only the best but the original version with: “brothers smoking Jane and sniffing cocaine”... other versions deleted or changed this part of the lyrics.... beers Hammond was one of the harmonizers in this original!!!!
Such amazing memories from a time when youth was magic and those special people gave me sense and meaning to all my life, never forgotten and always in my head, this song brings you all back to me and that one love from Trinidad ..... I wish I'd said yes xx
Im sorry you didnt get to take advantage of that love, hope at least you had found another love.Im from Trinidad and sitting in my room in New York listening to this jam, missing a true love that walked away 6 weeks ago. only to realise we are both collateral damage to spiritual warfare, its a beautiful thing to love and such a wrecking pain when its lost.
Those were the days Gee wizz I miss you and the times and friends some who unfortunately are no longer here Listening to this eases some of the pain xx
A while way way back , I stopped by a friend's house to help out with something that was going on with his family.. someone was playing "Cottage in Negril" n Jodeci's "Cry For You" somewhere in the house and I thought ..hmm..nicee..then it was repeated..again..and again..and again..over n over..just the two songs..I left 3hrs later n I guess it was Jodeci's turn cause i can hear Jodeci still crying in the night air as I drove off.. suffice to say, someone done messed up big time and was now regrettably missing a certain someone..hope it worked out..
Awesome 🎼🎸🎼 I saw in Negril a concert in the back yard of a home as would often be the case..it was where I also saw Toots…This is indeed a classic 🌴☀️🌴 thanks Tyrone,
Authentic Jamaican rhythm and lyrics that makes me want to take a trip back home. Add to that is the grandeur of the blue mountain and Dunns Rivers falls, among other beautiful spots like Golden eye and Firefly, Green island and Ricks Cafe’. A true Caribbean beauty!!!
The last time I saw him was at a spring break concert in Negril, 2001, at a hotel that I was working. He was getting over his drug habit, but still still gave a good performance. Sadly I heard that he passed away some years later while I'm in America. Wish I had appreciated him more the last time I saw him.
Tyrone you will always be my lover, gone too soon, you left me all these lovers rock of which I am grateful, my love will always grow stronger hearing your songs. RIP One love. Empress 42.
Did he leave a family behind if yes why is that his data is scarce on the internet like not sure about his year of birth, very little in4mation about him
Sumptuously beautiful production on this tune. Reminds me of both my dearly missed mum and sister, who used to play this tirelessly. As for Mr Taylor's vocal talent....truly timeless. He and Beres Hammond would have created a gorgeous duet had he been around today, I'm sure. May he RIP.
