what’s most helpful is not phrases, but your brain actually picks up on patterns within the speech and grammar making sentence structure a bit easier when you learn in a more formal environment!

Yeah, according to most polyglot watching dramas and news in your target language is one of the best ways to really understand the language. Not just a fun trick, but a real tool.

Like it's a self taught when she's learning korean because tzuyu is an introvert an quite she's used to watch korean dramas just to improve her korean, she just started talking to her co-trainees before after 2 years (according to her). Learning korean is more effective and gonna learn fast if there's a native speakers to who surround you.

She understood exactly what he asked for and gave a really good response to it, she is really good at it. She probably isn’t really fluent at Japanese and English, that’s why she says she’s not good, but she still understands and can speak some words which is still very impressive. Idk how much she knows Japanese but in english you can tell she has improved a lot.

I’m trilingual and currently living in Japan. Her Japanese pronunciation is better compared to non-native members. Can’t judge about her japanese comprehension. But her english comprehension is way up there. I think she’s putting in the work of learning the (korean, japanese and english) language behind the scenes.

To the few people who are nitpicking about the title: I didn't say she was completely fluent in English. With that said, I've lived in Korea for over a year and Tzuyu can understand and reply in English better than 90% of the Koreans I interacted with in Seoul (not to mention smaller cities/towns).

I guess Tzuyu, who is a Taiwanese from the southern city of Tainan, also speaks Taiwanese Hokkien beside Mandarin, Korean, Japanese and English. As a learner of Mandarin, I can say that Hokkien is a totally different language, unintelligible to Mandarin speakers. Hence I consider Hokkien as a separate language from Mandarin. Anyway, huge applause to Tzuyu for her language skill.

Linguists agree with you re: Hokkien ("Taiwanese") vs Mandarin, but the Beijing Government does not. The Taipei government zig-zags it because the ruling class from the mainland speak Mandarin. Most Taiwanese know both. As for Tzuyu: Despite being from Tainan, her mother-tongue is Mandarin. She understands Hokkien because some of her relatives use it, but she rarely speaks it herself. And yes, she is Language Queen.
