Quick walk around of a 6X12 uhaul trailer that I rented in March of 2017. I couldnt find any really good videos of one before I picked it up so I thought I would make one myself. Hope it helps!
Thank you bro! I'm originally from FL, living in AZ and the Wife and I are moving to FL now taking the bare minimum and this video helped a lot! Then I saw the FL plate and see why the video was done right lol.
Super helpful video, especially with the measurements. Thanks a lot. I am wondering if this would accommodate a king bed mattress and box, which are both about six feet wide. It would be a close call I think. What do you think? Of course, I could always attempt to tie these down on the truck bed somehow.
Great video Matt - very informative. I'm moving a 1 bedroom apartment with no furniture. In your opinion, do youu think its roomy enough for 8 medium uhaul boxes, 1 large box, 1 queen size mattress, very small entertainment center, 65 in TV and about and about 10 plastic bins? I know its putting you on the spot but I'm going back and forth with this trailer (my first choice) and getting truck and towing my suv
Hey Andrew, I'm glad the video helped! I think you'll have more than enough room for those things. I was stressing if my stuff was going to fit as well and I managed to fit two couches, two nightstands and a large dresser with mirror, a table and several boxes with no problems. It was actually like a fun game of tetris thinking back on it now lol. I put my 60" Tv in the back seat of my truck just because after 11 hours of driving some things did shift around and I didn't want it to break. I think if you strategically put the largest stuff in first and make sure you distribute the weight properly, you're gonna have more room left over than you think. Hope this answers your question. Good luck with the move!
Thank you so much for your cool video!! Does it have a drop down ramp? I'd like to move my 49cc scooter using 6X12 cargo trailer. Do you think does it is okay?
goguma8502 there wasn’t a drop down ramp but it wasn’t very high off the ground. Maybe 6-8 inches... If you parked it on a slope it may be even less. I think a 49cc scooter would definitely fit 👍🏻
Any place to strap down a motorcylce to the side of the wall? Moving out of state and I don't know how I can move all my gear plus my truck out at the same time.
I’m not sure bro.. I would assume however many travel days you’re allotted, plus any process time. They didn’t really question me on that when I filled my claim, I think you’ll be good if need a couple of extra days. Good luck with the PCS
I was towing with the GMC you see in the video so I didn't have any issues. Honestly, I could hardly tell I was towing anything at all. At first, I was taking it slow and driving the 55 MPH they recommended but after the first few hours I got more comfortable I started going 70-75 with no problem. I think the important thing is having it loaded correctly so it doesn't sway back and forth.
I'm about to do the same thing with a move for the military when you weighed it did you weigh just the trailer when it was empty and full or did you weigh it with you truck attached? Thank
Hey Brandon, You'll get it weighed 3 times total. Each time they will weigh your vehicle with the trailor attached. First one is an empty weigh at origin. Next, is a full weigh at origin and lastly is a full weigh at your destination. I used CAT scales and they were pretty familiar with PCS moves. Just drove on the scale and told the guy I was doing a PCS move with military, the whole process probably took about 5-10 min. Good luck!
The sectional is the only thing that im not sure about. Guess it depends how on point your tetris game is. I loaded two couches, but they werent sectionals so I stacked one upside down on top of the other one and had tons of room left over. Good luck!
I need some advice on going through the smoky mountains when towing this trailer and how to maintain speed with out messing up my 01 jeep grand cherokee laredo 6cylinder? And advice on how to slow down on downhill?
Nathaniel Croteau it might be tight. I had a full bedroom set minus the mattress and a living room set and it fit pretty snug. Guess it depends how on point your Tetris game is
Thanks for the video. What was the empty weight? U-haul has it listed at around 1900 lbs, but the employee that works there said that they overestimate it so people would not put so much stuff in there he said it was closer to 1300, which I find hard to believe.
I just compared my empy and loaded weigh tickets and Its a little hard to be exact because they distribute it among the Steer Axle, Drive Axle and Trailer Axle. I'll give you the break down of how mine weighed out... Hope this helps! Empty Weight. Loaded Weight Steer Axle- 3140 lbs Steer Axle- 3160 lbs Drive Axle- 2340 lbs Drive Axle- 2660 lbs Trailer Axle- 1820 lbs Trailer Axle- 3160 lbs
matthew gorum man it might be 1900 after all. if assuming 5% tongue weight on empty trailer, that would put it right at 1900. hope my Forester can handle it!
It’s been a few years bro, but I think I towed about 2,000 lbs and ended up pocketing about $400. Definitely not worth the trouble unless you’re not moving a lot of stuff. I just recently PCSd from Maryland to WA and had the Navy pack me out. It sucked too but not as bad as I thought
It really depends.. are you traveling with family? Making a solo trip out of it? Have help loading/unloading it? In a hurry? I’d personally let the government pack me out if I were traveling that far with that much weight.
matthew gorum I’m renting one of those next week and have a Ram 1500 with a 6 cyl. 305 hp. I’m sure it will pull but part of me wishes I had an 8 this time.
