After a particularly challenging couple of years personally and professionally, this trip was finally a much needed escape from pandemic politics.
Setting off from Gatwick on 26th December, having completed all known necessities for international travel as the latest strain took hold, we were anxious what other suddenly-imposed restrictions or curve-ball limitations might blight our already wildly spinning moral compass.
However, soon into the expedition our apprehensions melted into Oslo's incredibly welcoming orange sky. Although only a short five day break, Norway had an immediate cathartic and entirely unforgettable influence on our virus-weary psyche. For a moment in time, whilst recognising the global two-year heartbreak and misery below, flying above it all in a rocket-shaped cocoon anxieties almost entirely evaporated, and lasted for a few short days. Don't underestimate how tired and drained you have become in two years.
To witness strong Aurora on two consecutive nights was pure unforgettable fortune. Icing on the cake ... and some. I'm aware some of the latter images of the Aurora are out of focus, but in the excitement I failed to notice my manual lens had moved from infinity. I include some anyway as the aurora intensity has to be seen to be believed, albeit a tad blurred.
During our trip my sister and travel companion celebrated a birthday. A 'significant' one last year spent in miserable quarantine isolation, worried an unknown association had passed her a bug that might kill her. The Malangen resort and I conspired to provide a special surprise cake this year and boy, thanks to the team there, they delivered - bringing unexpected pressure-releasing tears of joy.
What more can I say about Norway that the video doesn't? Wonderful people, wonderful service and unique breath-taking scenery. Treasured memories. Two nights in Tromsø, two at Malangen and a stop-over in Oslo, I/We will be returning for more!
I don't make many videos. I'm only an amateur enthusiast so please like and consider subscribing. It would encourage and bring me a smile to have my efforts so recognised by you pressing that button.

We 110% loved your hometown 😃 Beautiful and everyone we met were very helpful, welcoming and lovely. Living in a popular UK tourist destination I know sometimes that not always easy when tourists outnumber the residents! Thank you for commenting ✔✔

This video just came up in my feed. Glad I watched it. I'm English but live in the south of Norway not too far from Oslo. We went to Tromsø in October and saw the lights. One of the highlights of our lives so far 😃. South Norway is also beautiful you should definitely come back! Great video thanks

You're most kind, thank you Hayley 🙏 I am already in conversation with Malangen for a longer visit next Christmas but in the meantime we've said it would be fab to visit in the summer and indeed take in Oslo and some of the south. Couldn't believe our good fortune seeing the Aurora on two consecutive nights! Thanks again for commenting. Really appreciate it 🤙

Thank you Haley. 👍I'm off to Svalbard this winter, still Norway just a bit further North! I have every intention of making many more visits to all the Scandinavian countries from where my DNA originates apparently if I go back far enough! There's nothing like the lights for the hairs on the back of the neck to bristle! Was fortunate to see them very strongly in Sweden too last year 😊

Beautiful photography! Did you manage to see the northern lights during your stay at Malangen resort? If so, did you see it from your room? I'm looking to book to go there so just curious. Thanks!

Thank you so much for your very kind comments 🤘 Yes, indeed, although going on a light hunting expedition from Tromso, the very best show was the following evening, witnessed from the balcony of the lodge we rented at Malangen (which I can thoroughly recommend - the staff were so kind and attentive). If you jump to 16:20 these were the lights on that night. They were unforgettable. I hope you make it there and get to see them dance in the sky! 😊

Absolutely stunning 😍 do you mind if I ask what type of room you stayed in, i.e. was it the apartment or the standard double room? I think both offer different views so wondering what would be better to see the lights. Also, at 17:54 did you go elsewhere to capture the lights? Looks like a different area. Sorry for so many questions, I'm hoping to go with my family which incudes young kids and a baby so if they can stay in the resort all nice and warm whilst I view the northern lights from the balcony that would be just a dream come true! Once again, brilliant video!

@@iluvB92 We stayed in one of the apartments with a balcony - the closest 1st floor apartment to the main building. 14:45 is the balcony from inside and it is the top right apartment at 20:22 We gather they're all privately owned holiday homes managed by the resort for rentals. They all have different decor depending on the owner's tastes! We found them basic but comfortable and very warm. The balcony was a bonus and provided somewhere to keep the camera tripod set up and ready to roll! I was taking the shots on the balcony (ten second exposures) when my sister called from the 'front' door saying the lights were stronger from the front of the building. I took my camera out to the front and those are the images at 17:54 So they're all taken the same evening at Malangen. Our only disappointent on the whole holiday was a snowmobile excursion organised through Malangen. After over an hours coach journey we arrived in a field beside a road. After the saftey talk we did a few circuits of the field and we were looking forward to going off into the snowy wilderness as promised .... except we just kept going around the field - one way, then the other. A watery hot choc later we were in a minbus with grumpy driver heading back to Malangen at brake neck speed through icy roads being thrown around in the back of a transit with no seat belts! I did complain and had a full refund as it was such a dire excursion! Hopefully it's a better experience now! I certainly hope you get there and do let me know what you thought if you do! Best wishes,
