Made in the 1980s, RED FLAG depicts the advanced aerial combat training exercise hosted at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. Since 1975, air crews from the United States Air Force (USAF) and other U.S. military branches and allies take part in one of several Red Flag exercises held during the year, each of which is two weeks in duration. The Red Flag exercises, conducted in four to six cycles a year by the 414th Combat Training Squadron of the 57th Wing, are very realistic aerial war games. The purpose is to train pilots from the U.S., NATO and other allied countries for real combat situations. This includes the use of "enemy" hardware and live ammunition for bombing exercises within the Nevada Test and Training Range. Bonus: This film has a "Star Wars" connection -- narrated by James Earl Jones and listen to the soundtrack you'll hear John Williams at work!

The film definitely has some kind of a Star Wars feeling about it, and I like it.

When I first saw this video at a United States Air Force recruiting office, back in 1985...it left me wanting to not only enlist in into the United States Air Force, but also to fly. Awesome video for it's time.

@@michaelgrey7854: No. But it was a desire that I had. But reality set in, as I was unable to earn my way into the Air Force Academy, nor find a suitable time to attend a college or university with an R.O.T.C. or O.C.S. program, while being enlisted.

You can actually compare the opening sequences of this video with the opening scenes in Top Gun movie. The only differences is the music styles and film location, the rest is almost the same.

That's fun how far they go for realism like flags and propaganda posters of the potential foes in their briefing rooms. As much as I know in soviet war games there were just reds and blues.

Strange how it doesn't mention that at each Red Flag that the RAF attended, the RAF stuffed the Americans.

I'm a fighter pilot who has participated in red flag many times and the RAF fails miserably, they don't stuff us! Another guy talking out of his rear end on RU-vid and you just made a fool yourself! By the way, how many jet fighters have you flown at red flag? Let me guess, none! The only thing you ever flown was a paper airplane, so go back to your crib and suck your thumb!
