The USCG is a fine outfit, but they should make it true partial para-military organization where the Auxiliarist's can participate in all facets, even the Law Enforcement portion at least in a limited role. The Auxiliarist's should be armed to at least defend the base and assist the private security that are stationed there. So weapons training could be provided. There should be a type of DD-214 or access to at least Confidential Clearance and not the Direct Operational one, with a decent clearance the Auxiliarist's can obtain decent federal jobs as contractors. Give the Auxiliarists more benefits and rewards to make it even more worthwhile.

I wish I had known about the Auxiliary back when I was a teen instead of in my mid forties. But will continue for as long as I possibly can as an Auxiliarist in 8 WR.

The thing about the coast guard auxiliary, its all senior citizens... Its good to volunteer, but then you pay membership dues, buy your uniforms, which are not cheap, even though you try to make the auxiliary seem exciting, but its not like really that important as the military, or law enforcement because they get paid, and you have to pay to join the auxiliary.
