My wife and I were there and it was heartbreaking to watch Bono lose his voice. He was really very sad and, contrary to his words, obviously very worried. It then took about 30 minutes, and at the end the German tour manager announced that the concert had to be canceled. We were very impressed with the behavior of the audience. Everyone waited patiently, occasionally there was "Bono, Bono" chants. Nobody whistled or booed, not even when the cancellation was announced. There was applause and everyone quietly went outside. At the end of the tour, a few months later, the concert was rescheduled and it was epic.
Anyone who isn't a performer has no idea the sheer horror, terror and embarrassment he would be feeling when that happened. I'm a singer, my audience range is only from 20 to 150 people. I've got to go sing tonite even though my voice is fucked from a cold, and I'm proper anxious about it. It's going to suck. So much worse if your audience is thousands and thousands of screaming people who've spent money, time and effort to come see your show. Get well soon Bono. You're still the man.
I have been a U2 fan for over 30 years , I have seen them live 4 times twice on the Joshua Tree Tour and ZOO TV Tour and to me still the best Live Rock n Roll group in the world , no need to apologise Bono the world knows how good you guys are . Your just getting old mate .
Damn 3:34 is the saddest thing ever. It seems that after all these years Bono still gets so much joy from just being able to sing and perform, and his disappointment for not being able to deliver for the fans that night is so visible. Glad this wasn't anything too serious but I hope his vocal cords can hold out through his 60's, he's put incredible strain on them singing thousands upon thousands of shows and smoking for decades.
It can happen anyone. Bono takes his commitment to the audience very seriously. That's why he was upset. Get well soon. Looking forward to seeing U2 in Dublin in November. :)
I never get annoyed with singers, but Bono and Roger Waters are two of the biggest blowhards in music today. The proverbial messianic complex well over the edge!
People don't realize how difficult singing is at Bono's age...hell, any age. The fact that guys like Jagger and McCartney are still out there doing it is remarkable.
@@johnjoe6291 I dunno. In my experience, miserable cunts tend to be those trolling the internet taking pleasure in others' misfortunes. But I'm sure you know Bono personally and have a long complicated history with him.
He is very strong and take his career as professional... His voice have to change anyway!! God bless him for so many good songs that provided to us!! You're the best one yet #Bono
No worries Bono...take care of yourself. After all these years of great singing you don't have feel bad for not doing it the way you always do. We love U2 all the way.
This is why, when I become a rock star one day, I am learning sign language so that if this ever happens to me I can simply put my hands up and continue the concert.
It is completely understandable tha the decidedt to cancel that show, it actually may happen to anyone who sings. Bono is an honest and professional artist who would never let their audience have less than a real spectacle. I love U2!
No Shame and No Blame. The Guy Is only Human. The Band will do the right thing for their fans at any cost.I wish Bono a speedy recovery, but take the time in full to recover. U2 Fans will wait.
The biggest love you can give to this world Bono is by loving yourself enough to take care of yourself, that love energy then spreads and people feel it. If we don't love ourselves, we have nothing to give. Take care Bono.
Every singer’s worst nightmare regardless of crowd size. Anyone who’s done this for years has gone through a version of this at some point. And with Bono having so many songs that he really pushes himself, I can’t imagine having to do the rest of his show in that state. He did the right thing. Respect.
You're spot on - when the band rallied around Adam working through his alcohol addiction, the band totally had his back and repeatedly made it known that "We all make it, or none of us make it." That is the ultimate definition of a band.
@@savedbyjesusblood Edge kinda did it during the Sarajevo show in 1997. Bono almost lost his voice at that show to and Edge goes all out on the Chorus on Pride
i was there and i it was my first ever concert of U2 ) i even flew from Vladivostok, Russia to see his concert . bad luck( we felt how sad he was about it .
it is really sad to see that :( I am feeling so sorry for bono... and really really hope that he is going well so far... I've been to cologne I yesterday and it SEEMED as if he was alright and he was also ensuring us about it... but I hope that he somehow can take a rest for his voice... :(
Elevation Tour (2001) was perfect!!, also about albums ATYCLB (2000) and HTDAAB (2004) are very great late U2 albums, but i agree that their last 3 albums isn't great albums, these last 3 albums are between mixed to good, average. On other side the tours since 2000 wasn't nothing bad, the majority of these tours was excellent to perfect.
It's a lot of shows in sequence. There's no human being that will be perfect at all. Bono don't take use of playback as a lot of "singers", so it may happen someday. It's amazing that we are only hearing something like that only now, after his long career. So he deserves respect.
It happened to me once I got invited to a big party where I was supposed to sing to the people , right after singing 3 pearl jam songs my voice was gone.... that was embarrassing!
Bono es un gran cantante en norte america y Europa lo ven a cada rato y saben La calidad de cantante que es así que no se quejen ... acá en peru estaríais felices de verlo a si no cante
Feel for Bono. He has been singing hard for at least 40 years and has an open vocal style and has chosen not to sing songs at a semitone or too less. He should follow Sting in doing this for ease of performance and accept that there is only so much he can force out of it.
Actually they do tune down for a good number of songs. Been playing Pride full step lower than the album since the second Popmart show in 1997. New Years day got dropped a full step starting last year. Bad was always half step lower (full step during Popmart, and starting again last year), With or Without You is a half step, Ultraviolet too and so on.
Cameron Olenik Honestly I think they should just drop a few songs permanently, especially New Year's Day, that song was made for E flat, it just doesn't sound right dropped down a full step.
@@Shr00b I agree with NYD, it doesn't translate to a lower key well and should be retired. JT 30th anniversary tour is the first I'm aware of changing the key on that song.
@@evenbetterthantherealthing92 Bono has been losing the power in his voice since, what, POP? It's been a very long time since the depth of something like With or Without You; there are live tracks where his voice is actually deeper than the album version.
Although Im just a puissant of a Blues singer I do realize what its like when you belt out tunes at full Bore on the first Night and The next night theres just nothin but Gravel. Its embarrassing you cant plow through it because it doesn't get better it gets harder so Mr Bono please sit it out for a bit we needyour voice for our generations. God Bless U2 Phrase JESUS.
It's truly sad that people here are posting ill-will towards a fellow human being, especially one such has Bono. It just shows their ignorance and lack of understanding. Yes, Bono's a millionaire. Yes, he donates a lot of money to charity and yes, because of that, he's able to write-them off when it comes to taxes. Get over yourself because trying to find something to complain about someone else's success will get you absolutely nowhere. Doing so only reflects that you are dissatisfied with yourself in some way, and for that, I empathize with you. I used to be the same way, but I assure you that breaking free of that negative mindset will drastically improve your wellbeing. If you actually listen, and I mean really listen to the many lyrics Bono has written over the years and look into all the philanthropy work he has done, all while recognizing that prior to his career with U2, he was just another Irish kid with teenage-angst and a vision, there is no denying that Bono is a remarkable human being with a big heart. People put him down for trying to "save the world" and spark that inspiration for others. I say let him try! God knows someone needs to these days...but realize he can't do it alone. No one human can. It takes a collective, so strive to find that spark within yourself! Live in love, friends!
Maybe just a case he's getting older..... I loved U2's early stuff not so the material over the last 15 years or so but he's still a top front man and vocalist and hope he recovers.
I remember booking a recorded session with a big name producer in New Jersey and we recorded the music tracks then when it was time to do the vocals I had lost my voice, we had to wait a month til I was better it costed more money that we didn't have..
This was hard to listen to 🙏🏻 love them so much... Man.. this guys voice is beautiful with emotional conviction..maybe he partied a little too much with Noel 🤷🏻♂️
And Larry loses his stick! 1:23 But really, that must of tore Bono up inside, losing what I call your 'soul amplifier'. Relieved it wasn't a permanent condition. The tour has been a success, my lady, Wendilion and I loved the Los Angeles Forum show we attended. --- Gary
Wow. He apologized, offered options, and that peeps is much more than that diva Paul Stanley ever did, and that guy still milks his fans without shame.
I don't really enjoy him anymore, even though I used to be an ENORMOUS FAN,... BUT I STILL wouldn't come on here and give petty childish insults. Grow up. How sad we are as a society.
Oh take a Prozac! It's not like people are putting a gun to the annointed one's head, It's free speech! And many of the anti- Bono comments are quite creative.
Besides since when telling the truth is an insult? I've been a massive fan since the late 80`s but that doesn't change the fact that Bono can barely sing live since 20 years ago, even the change from ZooTv to Popmart was clear, not to say what has happened the last 20 years
I'm a professional musician and your assessment is just plain off. "Barely"? "20 years?" Wow. Not hearing it. The quality of his voice has changed but he hits notes. Who else do you think "barely" sings these days? I'd like to know.
Wow take it easy man it's only rock and roll, before Popmart Bono began to look for doctor that could tell him why he was loosing his voive the deterioration has continued until it reached this point, if you think his voice is great yet then good for you
I'm not heated, just saying he can barely sing is not true. He talked a lot about getting his voice back during the Elevation tour. Listening to different bootlegs of Kite, how could that be described as you did? Just asking, not being belligerent. I know typing sometimes makes it seem that way. We all know he had a peak for sure! But so did Sinatra.
On the recording for Ultraviolet, Larry drops his drumstick at 3mins10secs. It was in his left hand, skid across the drumkit, and hit the rack tom. Producer Brian Eno liked it as it sounded like a 'breakdown'. To Larry's objections the recording was kept and is in the actual song. If you listen for the snare it drops out momentarily. Check it out!
Hes not singing- He is talking. He does this more and more, just talks and shouts. Too bad, this happens all the time. Its stunning that Jagger can do what he does at his age, Jaggers fitness and movement on stage is remarkable. Get Well soon Bono !
Bono started losing his voice around POP. It's been pitchy for a very long time. The power of, say, the stadium rock of JOSHUA TREE is long, long gone vocally. The depth back then was amazing. Now he sounds like a William Shatner album.
Best comment on youtube about this issue my friend, it was pomart that you could notice a clear decline of his voice, actually it was from popmart that for instance they started playing Pride 2 semitones lower than the original key, it was the Pop album where he stoped singing and doing scat singing (talking) as he called it, and no one should feel ofended by that is the pure truth, this event is evidence of that
