Jesus is what everyone is looking for. We are all born with a Christ shaped void and only He can fill it. Trust a stranger that met Him 35 years ago and never regretted a moment of my walk next to Him. Every time I look back, He was carrying me.
AMEN. just as a reminder that we have in fact found what we’re looking for. funny thing is, we’re so unaware that it is we and never He, who is lost. well, in my case at least.
These brothers& sisters are SINGING WITH THEIR HEART&SOUL! I am Irish. Iam a chief sinner saved by grace. Took care of orphans from Harlem& Bed Stuy. in Hempstead, L.I. I think they took care of me! MeeCeltic Bro."s visiting their church! They ministered to U2! Ask anyone from U2? When we came to America we were told "No IRISH NEED APPLY!" Jesus is with us. These are MEE brothers& sisters! St. Patrick encircle ALL OF US!!!!! ESP> TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have struggled with PTSD since I was attacked years ago. I escaped, but it stays with me. When I am pushed to the edge, when I wake at night, when I struggle, this song: this song, these singers pull me back, bring me home, save me. Again and again, they have saved me, reminded me it's ok, the beauty is there. I will keep looking .
@@brendansweeney9719 Churches have been for many gay people be the only place where they've ever received a real hug, where they've ever felt safe, where they weren't treated with cursing, where they don't hear innapropriate jokes, where they hear "You are loved, you are chosen, you are valuable" because God died for you on a cross, out of love. What is love to you?
The Choir added the essential Spirit and Soul to this song. Powerful video. It is one of my favorites. I still have the cassette tape that I purchased when this song first came out. It is Timeless.
+TheIcanntspel You know, I always loved that line. I feel like someone asked Bono a question, and he sings almost the whole song before answering: "Yes, I'm still running."
I love the kingdom come part but I am a bit wary of the second part. Anyone could interpret it to mean that he believes but he's still not satisfied. If it was '' i believe in the kingdom come and I found what i'm looking for'' i would have no question marks. Just before of wolves in sheeps clothing.
So beautiful. Very thankful I found it. My husband died a few months ago. We shared a love for the music of U2. He took me to Joshua Tree a number of times ... I needed to hear this today.
U2 was originally a christian rock band, and were often criticised for this in the early years. The imprint of the USA black gospel tradition is found all over their lyrics, from 'Streets With No Name' to 'Stuck In A Moment'. Similarly with other great Irish artists: Van Morrison, Rory Gallagher, et al.
Me also discovered this now in 2021 And yes - After having heard singing JLo "this land is your land" and Amanda Gorman speaking i am absolutely shure: 2021 will be the year what we have been looking for. Greets from germany. And may god bless this fantastic choir.
At the start he says: if you look at the lyric, it’s exactly a gospel song. Below I’ve posted the deep, profound, beautiful lyrics to this excellent song. The lyrics are similar to the writings of St. Augustine who said that the things of this world will never bring us peace and joy and we will only have peace and joy when we deeply connect with God. Likewise the famous female Christian mystic from England named Julian of Norwich said the same thing, but added that we cannot fully connect with God until after we die. Most of the spiritual masters and teachers In the history of modern humanity, including non-Christian mystics, strongly agree that the key to connecting with God after we die is to make ongoing concerted efforts to more deeply connect with God during the limited number of days we have here on earth. All of the great spiritual teachers have emphasized that this includes living a moral and ethical life, helping the neediest and spending regular time in spiritual practice. Getting closer to God through those three areas has a great double benefit: One is getting more and more peace and joy during our lives, the most peace and joy possible this side of heaven. The second and far more important benefit is eternal, blissful, joyful connection with God. The Buddha said that attaining the latter was so hard that it would take dozens of lifetimes of huge amounts of spiritual practice plus near constant good ethical conduct. The Buddha called this Nirvana because he lived about 5000 years ago and Novavax before the unitary monotheistic God that we know today had broadly begun to reveal itself to humankind and develop a relationship with humankind. The Buddha was fortunate enough to experience some amount or some level of heaven, but God wasn’t ready to reveal itself to all of humanity yet. Thus Buddha was able to see some of the picture, but not all of it, and he could not call it heaven or talk about having an interactive relationship with God etc. But the ways in which he describes nirvana are very similar to heaven. One of the benefits of Christianity that U2 talks about in the song is that Jesus came along to make it far easier for humans to access eternal, joyful, peaceful union with God, a.k.a. heaven. Five of the last six lines of the song are about this. There have been hundreds of entire books that have been written going into depth about what U2 summarizes in those five lines. Some of the gist of it is that we are all chained to our attachments, our negativities, our bad habits and our tendencies to do the wrong thing ranging from lying to cheating on spouses to hurting others to failing to help the neediest etc. The word Christians use for these things is sins. Though Jesus can make it far easier to reach this incredible place that the Buddha said was super hard to reach, there is one big broad demand: that you believe he is for real including you believe his teachings and try your hardest to follow them. The final line of the song is about this: “you know I believe it “. An earlier part of the song is also about belief… That they believe that the kingdom of God is coming. Jesus specifically said that when God‘s kingdom comes, God will welcome those who took care of the least of the these, the worst off, and he will block out those who failed to do this. He also commands that we love our neighbors as ourselves, and he specifically defines our neighbors as the people who are the worst off (lying by the side of the road penniless and in desperate need of material help), regardless of whether we don’t culturally identify with them and even if we culturally dislike them. The Samaritans and the Jews basically hated each other culturally and otherwise. They did not identify with each other in any way, and had no natural affinity or inclination to feel like helping the other. And the good Samaritan is not just about helping others. It is specifically about helping those in the worst of circumstances and who are from places that we don’t identify with or feel inclined to help. One thing that I never understood before I became a Christian in my early 30s was: why would God or Jesus make the broad demand above about believing in Jesus including his teachings and commandments? The best metaphor is this: Say a person named Dave is enslaved deep inside a large country full of slaves surrounded by a barbed wire fence. In many parts of the country are guards and attack dogs, plus the country has some difficult terrain including some dense rainforest and a mountain. The leader of a flourishing, beautiful neighboring country assigns his right hand man named Jesus to try to free as many of the slaves as possible, and gives Jesus some useful technologies to help with the efforts including cell phones, a bulldozer for making a path through the rain forest, hiking boots for the mountain and ladders for people getting over the fence etc. So Jesus clears a path through the forest, and carves a path over the mountains. He places resources like boots and ladders where slaves can find them on the journey. Then he sends a book of instructions/teachings to Dave and other slaves talking about the freedom and the wonderful life in the other country, providing the path to freedom, and describing a few key things needed for a successful journey, plus telling him how he can get the helpful things. The book also says that Jesus is the right hand man of the ruler of the other country, and that he has created this path to freedom and is able and ready to help Dave in his escape. He provides Dave with a cell phone that Dave can use to send requests for support, with the understanding that Jesus will decide if the support is actually needed or ideal or if Dave’s strength and courage and faith will benefit from not being helped. Here’s the interesting thing: if Dave does not believe that the other country exists and is super worth getting to … and if he does not believe that Jesus is from the other country, and that Jesus is one of the top three leaders of the country and therefore had the resources to create an escape path out of the country, that his instructions are correct, and that he has ways of seriously helping Dave along the way, then Dave is most likely not going to persevere on the journey, nor will he trust in following the directions nor will he consistently use the cell phone to call for help nor have a successful journey. This metaphor is useful in other ways. For example, some people don’t think that heaven exists or they don’t realize how amazing it is. Many, many people mistakenly think it is easy to get in there. Almost none of the great spiritual teachers or masters say it is easy. They say the opposite. They are the experts in this area. People would do well to listen to them. But instead of listening to them, it is surprising how many people are so full of pride and or of ignorance that they are like English majors who never took a college level class in science thinking they know more about rocket science than the best rocket scientists in history. Or are like people who never spent even a week in medical school acting like they know more about brain surgery than the best brain surgeons in history. Jesus, Paul and others are akin to top rocket scientists and brain surgeons. Nearly all of us humans by comparison have only taken a few high school level science classes, But some of us think we know better than experts. I think Pascals wager comes into play here. If we believe in God and follow Jesus and do our best to live a virtuous life and help the needy etc, if for some reason we were completely wrong and no heaven exists, then it is still a better path because we have more peace and joy during our lifetime. If you bet the opposite and live a life of materialism and sin, and you are wrong. the end result is devastating. Plus even if you are right and there is no heaven, your short life here wouldn’t have been any more happy than if you believed in God and pursued the following Jesus route of living virtuously, helping the needy etc. So maybe think about - What bet are you currently making, and is it the smartest? I have climbed highest mountains I have run through the fields Only to be with you Only to be with you I have run I have crawled I have scaled these city walls These city walls Only to be with you But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I have kissed honey lips Felt the healing in her fingertips It burned like fire This burning desire I have spoke with the tongue of angels I have held the hand of a devil It was warm in the night I was cold as a stone But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I believe in the kingdom come Then all the colors will bleed into one Bleed into one But yes I'm still running You broke the bonds And you loosed the chains Carried the cross Of my shame Oh my shame You know I believe it
I was 11 years old when I found this song. I say know in the sense of really understanding the lyrics and what they mean. and since then it's been my favorite song in the whole world. I recently had bouts of depression that almost made me take my own life, and yesterday, during a therapy session, this music played in the background. I talked about how tired I was and how I wanted to give it all up. And then I remembered that I still haven't found what I'm looking for. This DVD version of The Joshua tree album is the most beautiful and full of meaning. God acts, believe it and never stop looking...
If I had heard this song in the background at a therapy session, considering the connection, I think I would have said thank you Jesus…for letting me know you ARE with me. As someone who has ptsd, I hold on tight to the promise that God loves me. I hold on tight that he Is more powerful than he who is in the world. I’m sorry for your trials your struggles I get it. I pray God gives us strength to reach out to community who too suffers openly so we can lift each other up and hold each other. Forgive the advice but I listen to insight for living-Chuck Swindoll-every night as I’m falling asleep, helps tremendously. Please never forget that Jesus loves you and that your trials may be a gift to others someday as you share them. 🙏❤️👆🏼
What I love about this. What brings me back. Is that these are regular people. Bonded in community of voice. Stop listening to the powerful. Listen to each other.
So to clarify- We were not a Gospel Choir..we sang Rockspel (see iTunes)..and the Name of the choir is New Voices of Freedom and we are NOT the Harlem Gospel Choir who blatantly went around the world claiming to be us...
i dont get itunes on a chromeblook, can you please explain what rockspiel is exactly,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if you werent a gospel choir why did you sing in a church i think it was a assembly of god church??/
@@thankyou2532 What Dennis is saying is that he orchestrated the choir in the video. Their name is New Voices of Freedom. U2 and their producers used them for the dvd, which is the video being shown here on RU-vid. There is, also, an actual gospel choir in Harlem. Their name is the Harlem Gospel Choir. The Rattle and Hum DVD (with this video in it) became quite popular back then. The Harlem Gospel Choir told everyone that it was them that were in the video, which was a blatant lie.
Dennis Bell wow hey you know YOU are my favortie part of this video. Ok so when you do that first CLAP and then they follow, to me is my favortie part of the video. You instruct in such a chill but accurate way. Lol. Cool to see you in the comments and your are awesome for getting to work with U2!
This video shows how magic and universal music can be. Nothing matters but the sound, the guitar, the harmony, the voices. It touches something within you
Plus lyrics are also very important. Here are the lyrics for the song… I have climbed highest mountains I have run through the fields Only to be with you Only to be with you I have run I have crawled I have scaled these city walls These city walls Only to be with you But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I have kissed honey lips Felt the healing in her fingertips It burned like fire This burning desire I have spoke with the tongue of angels I have held the hand of a devil It was warm in the night I was cold as a stone But I still haven't found what I'm looking for But I still haven't found what I'm looking for I believe in the kingdom come Then all the colors will bleed into one Bleed into one But yes I'm still running You broke the bonds And you loosed the chains Carried the cross Of my shame Oh my shame You know I believe it
Did u read all of the lyrics? This is NOT a gospel song. He talks about walking with satan and not in a negative way. The song says he STILL HASNT FOUND WHAT HEEZ LOOKING FOR. This has nothing to do with my Christ. Cause if u look, u will find Him. Jesus saves!
My wife passed away recently. An amazing musician, choir accompanist, music teacher, wife, mom, musical partner... I played many musicals and jingles with her over the years. She would have *loved* this. If this video doesn't do something to you, IMHO, you are not hooked up quite right.. If it *does* do something to you... then you get it, and are hooked up correctly. Amen?
I remember Bono saying in an interview after this film that he watched this part with a bit of embarrassment.....as he was hungover at the time. Blimey.....i wish i could belt out a tune like that hungover. It is a truly beautiful piece of music and film work. Over 30 years old and still lifts people up today in 2019 and will do beyond.....
Great call Dan. I'm 48 and the Irish lads have always been my favorite. Larry Mullen Jr is my favorite who started this band. One too many pints of Guinness for Bono but so b it
@@robertocaesar so the church doesn't have copyrights. wow! can you see something anything grossly wrong here? the church doesn't have copyrights but, i'm justs guessing here: U2 does? and the profits? Just sayin'. and before you get all bothered here, if I'm wrong, I stand corrected. But bottom line: the church should be credited with their name; that singer should be credited with her name. .
@@rosalindpaaswell9513 I cannot answer about the profit from U2 here, because they're singing a theme which it's not theirs but for what they have paid the rigths to version, and I also don't know what copyrights apply to this kind of video in which other artists perform. I think what you ask is credit not copyright, but I also think it is the owner who has that demand, and it is not yours to claim. If the ones in charge of that church want the credit, they are free to ask. They may also not want to be credited as sometimes is the case. The bottom line is that I am sure U2, the choir and the church have discussed this to all satisfaction. There is no need to pick up fights where there is none. The fact that you may want something does not make it subject to a special response or right. We all know that every church is a non-profit organization, and also they are completely in charge of what they decide to do with things they take care of.
@@rosalindpaaswell9513 and finally, you understand that this is a video taken from anywhere else, and this channel is not under the power of U2, the church, the choir or the singers, right? You can get mad, buy only to the owner of the channel. I don't know what is the edition of the original material and under what circumstances it has ben produced. This is the RU-vid effect where informal broadcasting is king. Get chilled.
Since this became public not a week goes by I do not listen to this. I feel it brings all threads of races together as we should be each day. Blessings Brothers and Sisters
Compare this to today's dog n pony show. No autotune. No gimmicks. Just a band and a choir that had no business making music together but making it work.
Sensational! Bono’s voice is angst, anger, pain and anguish all in one then the gospel choir come in like a thunderstorm. Pure magic. The woman behind Bono has an unbelievable voice.
Coming from somebody who's not into religion much somebody who's not a fan of U2 but this is fire literally gave me goosebumps when the choir started singing
Holy smokes. You think you've heard this song a million times, yeah. This was their original vision fulfilled. It knocks me on my ass. Thank you for posting!
I went to see this in the theater when it was first released and when it got to this part of the documentary, my jaw dropped. There was my High School music teacher and some of my classmates singing an AMAZING version of this song....WITH U2!! When I look at this now 33 years later...their faces, style of clothing and mannerisms, it feels like I’m looking through a time capsule. It’s almost a little trippy.
You NEED to find the CD of the album (Rattle and Hum) and hear the OTHER version they all did ! It's all done on stage at Madison Square Garden in front of a capacity crowd. Yes - it's still the New Voices of Freedom choir - and there are stunning solo performances (by a male and a female) performed at the end... I used to wonder why they omitted the MSG performance in the movie... now in seeing this again I understand. This simple "unplugged" version in a Harlem church has a special power all it's own, very fitting for a visual like the movie. They left the MSG performance for the album. *EDIT: No need for a CD... I found the track on RU-vid for you* : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hjWmz_1-L7E.html
Imagine being the choirmaster. He gets to stand in front of this wall of talent and hold that power in his hands. Remember folks, this is Harlem. Some if not most of these people ain’t got sh*¥. Yet here they are, livin’ it up a storm. So much faith. So much love. Times like this I’m proud to be a human
