The delay time is : Dly 1: 150 ms Dly 2: 450 ms It is 1/16th Delay and a dotted 8 (=3/16th) Delay in parallel ( not in series) which can be done with the dual delay setting of the Eventide Timefactor. It also can be panned with the Timefactor: Delay 1 left , delay 2 right I think this is the trick, Mr U2 John does not give us the setting, damned!!! cheers Berh
Seems more like a 2/16 and a 3/16 to me here (eight and dotted eight). You can hear the 2 separate delays happening immediately one after the other without a gap
You, my friend, are a revelation that maybe those heavenly tones the edge creates or duplicable... This gives me faith in humanity. you are spot on in every way on his tone....perfect.
Wow, I have watched you model all of my favorite u2 songs. I'm impressed!! I'm also amazed at how the edge crafts his sounds. I thought "where the streets" WAS my favorite tone/effect....until I saw you explain the double delay of this song. LOVE it!!!
I hope you are using Herco picks on their side! I was "The Edge" for 3 years in an Australian U2 tribute band called "The Australian U2 Show". We gigged constantly and I was just running a Wah and a Boss ME-8. With some very accurate programming it was incredible what I got out of such a simple multi FX rack. Granted my tone was not as refined and multi layered as yours but I still rocked it out to hundreds every night.
@ibanezzoom I split the guitar signal right at the beginning (on my board it's a DRY out from my switcher in to the Verbzilla pedal) and then onto the separate amp. This works better than if you have just the one signal chain. Gives more clarity.
@Marguns Number of reasons... The DD-20 can be a backup delay (or Eventide can be).... One can do sampling/looping whilst the other can do delays at the same time....Also the Eventide is better for Dual Delays IMHO and is used here (the Boss isn't used in this video clip). Couple of my other videos use both - check them out. Thanks.
@eko321 For me, the Timefactor has loads of presets, can be updated via midi, can be controlled via midi and has a great digital/vintage delay with modulation on it.
@u2john316 Thanks !! I´ll try your settings when I receive my TF within next week. Sold it months ago to buy a Roland Space Echo, I'm so glad I'm having it back.
That violin sound is named shimmer, the verbzilla from line 6 produces a similar sound but the problem is that you can't use an expression pedal. The m13 from line 6 is a packed size pedalboard that contains 72 pedals. With the m13 you can create almost every known u2 sound.
You can use one amp - you will need to mix the shimmer and main sound. For me things are a bit clearer when the amp is dedicated and separate for just shimmer.
I have both a eventime timefactor and line 6 verbzilla like you, and use these exact two pedals in my cover of Still haven't found as well. I used to have a DD20 and now have a timefactor. I think the timefactor is better overall but the trailing and fading of repeats in the DD20 make the dd20 sound better.
You don't need 2 amps for dual delay. In this video, I have 1 amp for the main sound (including the dual delay) - the other amp is just for the "shimmer" sound.
very cool shows. You still with them? I agree - with a decent amp and guitar (and herdims) you can get some good Edge tones with any fx (with modulated delays). I once did a show with nothing more than a PodXT and a Boss DD-20.
@musicfunkydude Funny enough I was playing with the M13 last night with that song. You can do it with 2 delays in a row with the M13 but the parallel delays from the Eventide sounds better.
hi John. Great vids. Thanks so much. What's the minimum needed to produce these sounds for someone on a budget. Would you recommend a set of effects that would do a good job of it for me please?
Was that first delay set 2X longer than other? And looks like the other is shorter and got less feedback. I like your sound you definitely got lots of time to check sounds i wish to have as much so i would have some tweaks done. Adrian
Hi, I got a Timefactor, it is pretty expensive, but no regrets, it is the best delay on the market , The only downside is , in Bankmode you cannot switch backwards, only upwards, so if you are in bank 1 and you want to go to bank 20 you have to switch though all banks 1 to 20 , but forget it , this is a minor flaw, get it , it is superb!! berh
Simply...AMAZING! ps may j ask u ....the dual delay from the eventide time factor is comparable with the stereo delay of the pod xt live(obviously if u know the pod xt live?) thanks for all your u2 videos demonstration(j apologize for my english) ciao cheers!
@berherbi LOL - the settings were dialled in ad hoc here before I recorded this video. But generally, 450ms with either 300ms and/or 150 ms would do the trick ;) but in this video I suspect I had closer to 422ms as the main (A) delay.
what expression pedal do you have and where can i get it? and also how do you hook up your expression pedal to ur shimmer pedal? really great setup man.
I see you swelling in some sort of synth tone with your volume pedal, what are you using to make that sound? I'm looking for info on the eventide and now have the boss dd-20, can't seem to get it to do the multi-tap delays very well - have you? BTW - I enjoy your two loves in life as well. I'm especially a big fan of the little man on your amp .
@@u2john316 woow I didn't know that THE EDGE puts everything in frot of his amp...thanks a looot for ur reply ... great job ..I'm gonna subscribe to ur channel =)
Well done. Although you only talked about the 2 delays, you were apparently using a volume pedal to dial up shimmer? A lot of pedals seem to have a shimmer effect, but not many can be foot controlled to dial in gradually if you want.
It’s explained elsewhere in one of my other videos. Basically the guitar signal is split in 2. The main split goes through all the normal effects. A dry split signal also goes a different route through a volume pedal and then to a shimmer pedal which then goes to a second amp. If the volume pedal is in the heel position no guitar signal gets through to the shimmer pedal. As I move the volume pedal down to the toe position more guitar sound gets through to the shimmer pedal and second amp. The result is a blend of two guitar signals.
Well, that's straightforward. Cool. Since posting this I've noticed that just a couple of pedals out there do have the capability of attaching an expression pedal, which I assume you could use for that, though I have not tried any of them yet. And of course some have parameters that let you dial up how fast the shimmer comes in, but that's not quite the same since that would happen on each note.
dear john thanks for you explanation i have a time factor could you please detail exactly the patch delay for A delay for B atnd % of the mix of both ??? really appreciate your help
Ok, but when you use dual delay for ISHFLF its without modulation? and that song need modulated delay to sound right..how can you add modulation for delayed sound, has eventide some send/return for chorus stomps for example? thanx
@u2john316 Hi u2john3:16 whats are the settng on the timefactor...i´m geting one in a few days, and are you using the octo setting on verbzilla to create that shimmer, thanks a lot for taking your time to anwer, i also have a verbzilla...!
Wow, a million thanx for an insight to the Edges sounds, ive read pages and pages and you just showed me the way, a million thanx John, superb, p.s rough price of an eventide time factor?
hello, please help me, is it posible to have 2 delays in this pedal? 1 delay with 1/4 note, and other with dotted eight?? please help me, i have a boss dd20
Are you getting the shimmer from the TF or something else? I have a TF on the way and the first setting I want to use is this one. The Edge is flat out amazing. Would you put your settings up like you did with the Pride video?
Hi John, Really enjoy your playing. Im also addicted to the Edge's delay sound. I was wondering if you have both of those delays running through one amp or is one delay go to one and another to the other and then you mixed with amp volume? By they way....BAD ASS symphonic effect...what is that?
Hey John,U2 and tech guru, i dont know if you can tell mthis but can the line6 m13 with multiple delays in a row [i believe?] recreate the sound you showed us here with the time factor? hope you can help, cheers George.
Hey! Great job on the video. Was just wondering what MS were both of the delays set too? It seems like they are on digital with a little modulation, but are they both set to a tempo delay? Like dotted 8th and quarter? Or did you simply do it by MS? Please share! Thanks!
@markusernstberger You can get away with just one delay with this song too. I don't like the Nova's modulated delays particularly but you should get something decent enough.
What capo do u use??? Is it any good? (lost my old one -.-) And do u play just through amp and Timefactor? Or do u use a distortion pedal or something for the crunch?
you're amazing any tips you could give me to set this up for my GT8 seconds I like how you play it and the tabs ive seen online dont sound like your version which I like, :( any help please?
@theede92 Those are just a pair of converse and he have a goatee, a hell lot of people use both, and i dont think all that ppl are trying to look like the edge dude.
