having my husband murdered when I was 23 and being pregnant with two babies, I have felt that my connection with him comes through with U2 music. I saw U2 in November 1987, he was killed four weeks later... its been a long, long road. If only U2 really knew how healing their music is.

I borrowed this tape from my Dad when I was 11 years old in 1992. Then when I was 16, I used to listen to the tape in my walkman on my 25 minute walk to my girlfriend's house every day. Sure seemed like there were a lot of sunny days in 1997. I miss those walks. Then a couple years after that, this song came on when I was eating at a Skyline restaurant with my Grandma. The memories are great, but now they make me sad. Life is so different these days.

Completely agree. There are very few perfect songs in rock. This is absolutely on that list. The fact that it came out of nowhere almost by chance in the studio when Daniel Lanois happened to be recording when Edge was just playing around on his guitar at the point when the band was about to break up makes it even more remarkable.

As they say, the first year of marriage is the hardest. Now 54 years old. I married my wife when I was 23, her 20 many arguments and near physical fights, it was rough, but instead of giving in to the devils wishes that separate many couples, I was drawn to U2's music. Anytime I needed an escape I would just pop on the head phones and get lost in the power of their lyrics and awesome music. We toughed that year out and the rest of the years. I contribute much of my needed mellowness to U2. The wife and I brought 3 wonderful children to this world, made it over many rough patches, Im so thankful I always found peace in U2's music. I'm also glad I never left my marriage. Especially when the day of August 19-2018 came when my three sobbing children and I laid my wife/their mom to rest at age 44 from a herndious battle with cancer. U2 is legend to me.

Un très bel hommage à Monsieur le professeur Samuel Paty. Ca me touche beaucoup que les gens en parlent. Je ne suis pourtant pas liée à sa famille, mais j'ai été touchée aussi par son brutal assassinat. Qu'il repose en paix. Mes condoléances à ses amis et à sa famille. Shame on terrorist !

Has to be the best song of all time Not just the lyrics. The way it’s sung with such passion and truth. Every line is meant and felt truly. @sombhoog3996 No, @meginblack is confusing this song, One, with a different U2 song, Until the End of the World, off the same album. UTEOTW is the song that is written from the perspective of Judas talking to Jesus, not this one. That has been well documented in interviews with Bono. He’s said that idea was the inspiration for the lyrics of UTEOTW (but of course, it can be interpreted in many ways, as nearly all U2 songs can by design). Just Google the song facts. Or simply read the lyrics to Until the End of the World, as it’s choke-full of clear biblical references from the Last Supper, to the garden, thru to the Passion.

She wanted to marry me but she didn't love me so neither one of us had to be alone, no thanks. She said maybe in time we would fall in love. That sounded sad and lonely. I really loved her and i thought she loved me too. Glad i found out in time. Broke it off that day....a couple weeks ago and we haven't spoken since. This beautiful song right here sounds to me like a loveless marriage. My favorite U2 song. I'm 60 now and not worried about living alone the rest of my days enjoying the music and having faith in God.

This is an incredible song. My husband and I divorced 15 years ago but always loved each other deeply. We stayed close and always depended on the other for certain thing. Our bond was unbearable. We divorced because a one time marital affair. I wish I could have forgiven but I didn’t. The pain was too much. This song tells us that we are ONE and will always be together. Remarried March 11, 2020. We will continue to love. But all the years we missed !

For me the line that really hit home was, "Love is a temple, Love a higher law -- you ask me to enter, then you make me crawl." Was so spot on for me when I was ending my first marriage. Song still brings a tear to my eye. That and "I can't keep holding on, when all you got is HURT."

I was reading the life of the great Nigerian Ken Sarowiwa and he was jailed tortured and murdered by the authorities and when he needed to boost his confidence in the times of depression he would reach for this song 'One' by U2/Bono. So I have listened to the song about a dozen times and I awe-struck by every note and word and how they are presented- so congratulations to Bono and U2- It is truly one of the greats

There are very few perfect songs in rock. This is absolutely on that list. The fact that it came out of nowhere almost by chance in the studio when Daniel Lanois happened to be recording when Edge was just playing around on his guitar at the point when the band was about to break up makes it even more remarkable.

Thank you. Some critics say that U2’s One, is the greatest song written. I don’t see it however, I think Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” Says more than the lyrics and has a more in-depth meaning. It was well written and reached more people intimately than any other. Thank you for sharing my friend. I just love U2. I was at their Concert in 2015 in Toronto. Lucky for me my uncle had box seats and we didn’t have to pay for seeing them. This is my Lill brothers favorite band and he actually cried when we came back to spend the night with Uncle John. I had never seen him cry as an adult.

This was the song my beautiful wife of 30 years ago and I danced to at our wedding. When we were dating I took her to see them in D.C. Fell absolutely in love with her when they played this song. U2 has been one of my favourite bands since they first came out. So many great songs! Thanks U2!

I dont understand this calculation. 15 when it came out means born in 1976. You would be 47 now. If you are 52, you were 15 when Where the streets have no name came out. However, its a great album

I've always loved this song but I always thought it was about a romantic relationship. Sometimes in the last couple years I heard it was about strained relationship with his father and since then I couldn't listen to it without thinking of my mom and almost always makes me cry. It's too close to the struggles we have had.
