Holy crap this was amazing!! Unless I’m mistaken, this is the first time they’ve *ever* played this song in it’s entirety(just like how the 2017 Joshua tree tour was the first time they ever played Redhill mining town live is entirety).. let alone to play in it’s entirety live. To my knowledge the only other recordings that even exists of them playing this song was a stripped down acoustic version of a verse and a chorus on the Achtung Baby documentary, and a grainy shitty bootleg recording of a sound check in Hershey Pennsylvania ca. 1992. As a mega U2 fan, I always dreaded the inevitable eventuality of them just becoming a nostalgia band doing residencies. But considering that’s what gave me the first ever live version of this song, it’s instantly worth it to me.
They played it a few times during the Zoo tours. Very few. Michigan was one time. I think Foxboro too. But yes, it wasn’t a mainstay of the sets. Great that they are playing it now.
I was just telling my wife that as Bono's vocals change, due to age and the sheer difficulty of U2's songs, the Edge has taken on a larger share of the vocal responsibility. I think the Edge has a beautiful voice and I'm all for it since it keeps U2 going.
those snare drum hits that alternate with Adam's bass sound like a heartbeat. Like on the original recording, was waiting for Bono to sing that falsetto "yeahh-haa" after the "Love dying every hour love" line, that throws the song into another gear, with Edges guitar getting louder in the mix to drive the song to finish - but it never came. Still a great live version here. One of my fav tracks off Achtung Baby
@@fiercemakeup31 I agree. I’m not sure where Bono’s vocal range is at now. There are times where I just want him to sing more as I think he can. As they practice more I think songs like this have the potential to sound really good even today
Such a great song with incredible bass on the original recording. I'm really surprised at how good Bono sounds here and how faithful he is to the original.
The only thing that failed a bit is Edge's chorus in the majority of the verses. I mean, It's ok to join sometime but not in all the song. I couldn't enjoy the entire song
@@humbertoalfaro1721 AND.. Adam forgets he has to fall in/start playing after 2:25 'sweet haert,... you're so cruel' than that basline starts. not before.
