Cool to see you do Dirty Loops! Fantastic band and super talented. They should be much bigger than they are globally. World class. Do a deep dive on your own time and become a fan.

If you like 80's music, they did a new amazing "parody" of an 80's video but with skill that's off the chart called "Run Away". Everything they do is awesome. If you like horns then definitely check out their collaboration with Cory Wong, including Thriller, Follow the Light, Turbo (instrumental), you'll get hooked. "Work Shit Out" really shows off the keyboard and especially the drums.

Half a year ago i saw them for the 5th time and the audience where going insane. There were a lot of musicians going crazy. I hope you have a great concert with these guys.

Fine band but old hat....everything they're doing is derivative...from vocal style (stevie wonder) to 80s jazz fusion (Spyro Gyra, Yellow Jackets, Weather Report) And bass..?? again, amazing but sounds exactly like a 2 dozen other bass players. Technically excellent but musically boring. All in all a great band...excellent talent...excellent production., but not something I would ever listen to because I could just put on Weather Report, or Stevie Wonder, Or Michael Jackson. Why would I listen to a copy when I could put on the original?
@marienvanraan760

In music it is normal for artists to be inspired by other artists. You can hear that in their music. In classical music or jazz you always hear tones and compilations by others. You sound like you've heard it all. You sound arrogant and you would like to let it be known that you know a lot about music. Maybe that's true, but showing it off is nothing more than, look at me.

Glad that you both got to react (first and second react :) to Dirty Loops. Since discovering them a few years ago they’ve grown on me so much, it’s kinda ridiculous… And after having listened to some of their albums for countless times (now some of my most treasured possessions) there’s still new stuff turning up in my speakers all the time. Despite the easy look and straightforward structure of some of their tunes and videos, it’s also incredibly complex music, I find. Henrik, the bassist, is a monster player and musician indeed and draws a lot of attention in the way his bassplaying is presented in all of their pieces. Aron, the drummer, writes a lot of his bass lines. All three of them studied music together at a prestigious Swedish con, and both Aron and Henrik play like hand in glove, practiced for hours together, and even shared the same bass (n drums) teacher for a while. The three of them also compose their tracks together, in various combinations. It’s this whole combinations of factors, including not having a guitarist in the band, which placed Henrik into a unique situation as a bass player of Dirty Loops. Then you add his monster chops, his musical expertise and a monster sound engineer (!) and you have these bass parts which always stand out… But hey, all three of them are super musicians. David Foster was the first one to ‘discover’ them, and took them to tour the Asia Pacific regions, as well as some of Europe. Then the pandemic hit. They’ve been touring again a lot this and last year. You mentioned, Joel, that this video looks fairly simple. Yeah and this is the way with all of their music videos from this album. Apart from goofing around with some of their props, eg the number of mics pointing at a solitary small amp, or Henrik sitting in front of a ‘wall of speakers’ and so on, -also in the credits-, these videos are simple. (You should see tho their music videos from their first album ‘Loopified’ (2014). Just B&W 😉) Still, their playing will leave you dumbfounded. In a way they’re still a small, self produced trio, with some friend shooting the videos, Aron editing them, another friend mixing and engineering, etc. A very self-produced style of doing things. Loved your reaction to them, and would love to see your reaction to their track “Work Shit Out”! Thanks for showcasing this band 🙏👍

You want horns? They recorded a few tracks with the Wong Notes - Cory Wong's band - Specifically Turbo and Ring of Saturn, both featuring the immense talents of Kenni Holmen and Grace Kelly. Their version of Thriller, from the same set, is also stunning.

Imo Jonah's voice is like a mix of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder! These guys met a music school in Stockholm Sweden and they clicked immediately! They began some 10+ years ago uploading videos where they did songs by Britney Spears, Adele, Alphaville to name a few. Needless to say they went super viral and more or less everyone in the biz from Quicy Jones to David Foster were singing their praises! The latter one kinda took them under his wings kinda as his protégés. Nowadays they belong to Quincy Jones Production.

I just love to see someone experiencing Dirty Loops for the first time. They started the group as a hobby project in 2008, and never thought it would be anything other than that, and did twisted jazz fusion covers of top 40 pop songs. In 2010 they put up a video on youtube (a cover of Lady Gaga's "Just Dance"), as a booking reference, to see if they could get a gig or two, just for fun, as they thought their music was way too unsexy for anyone to actually like it. Needless to say, they were completely wrong. The video went viral and a LOT of people absolutely loved it. They weren't discovered by Quincy Jones though, and he didn't become their manager until the release of the "Phoenix" EP, which this song is from. For their debut album "Loopified", which was released in 2014, they worked with David Foster, as @fiddlestix3025 pointed out, and the one putting them in contact with him was their first manager, Andreas Carlsson. Just about everything they've ever released is of this ridiculous musical quality, so you could pretty much pick any song to listen to, and you more than likely would not be disappointed. My personal favourite is one of their more jazz fusion-y pieces, "Work Shit Out". They've all known each other and played together for 20+ years by now, in their late thirties. Jonah Nilsson (keyboard/vocals) and Henrik Linder (bass) even went to music elementary school together and met when Henrik was 11 and Jonah was 9. Aron Mellergård (drums) comes from another part of Sweden and came along when he moved to Stockholm at the age of 16, to attend the same music high school as they did (he was in the year between the other two). Then they all attended Kungliga Musikhögskolan (Royal College of Music) in Stockholm, where Henrik and Aron studied jazz/rock, and Jonah opted for music production as his main subject.

@marienvanraan760
@marienvanraan760 2 месяца назад
They are certainly highly talented. Snarky Puppie also has great musicians. Is one better than the other? That's more of a matter of taste. Dirty loops is appreciated by Cory Wong, Snarky Puppy, Jacob Collier, Vulfpeck and many other good musicians. I don't think that is without reason. To say that they are lesser musicians than the others and are less creative is a big laugh. Real musicians like those mentioned see this completely differently and praise Dirty Loops to the sky.
