A wheel must weigh approx 100kg. Image you get a puncture? Parking in a mall? Width of vehicle! What if it got bogged how would it be recovered? I think it is impractical personally. In australia nothing beats a toyota landcruiser - smaller, cheaper, less of a gas guzzle, easy to handle and wheels 40 to 50kg - easier to change. Just an opinion.

It's lovely, and I would buy it. But what I'd like to see is a raised pod at the rear to hold the very large elk- camp style tent that attaches. Imagine a huge space with the RV as the center unit. It makes those outdoor amentinties even more valuable. That and a separate shower from bathroom. Wet baths suck. Even if the shower is tiny, separating them is a worthwhile endeavour. But as- is, VERY WELL DONE. Love it.

This is well done. It has things it could improve on. The interior spacing is the biggest thing. The living space needs to be more open, and more flexible. Familiarity vs function is the question. You don't need the bathroom to be a hard room. It takes away too much living space from the interior. The rig does not need grey, or black water. It only fresh water. -For a true exploration rig, an extensive system for ocean, lake, and pond water filtration is another commodity that's not streamlined and seen enough. The entire interior floor can be wet ready, and have drains in it, but still be elegant enough for living. You don't need the renowned RV picnic tables. We need to stop using RV picnic tables in all our rigs. They're a waste of space. You need a work, or computer desk setup in that space. If anything, an additional fold away dinner table, or counter top is a better tool. There should be a showerhead in the ceiling, and hose connects for additional shower sprayers whenever needed. For the space, you will lose some storage equipment like drawers, but the kitchen needs a dishwasher. Likewise, in the rest of the cabin, you will lose some storage with the addition of a cloths washer, and dryer, but it's worth it. The rig does not need the small generator, nor does it need any of the solar on the top. The generator is unnecessary, and both take up space, and weight that could be used for more batteries, and more alternators, which are all you need for house power. -One can have a similar rig, but with larger battery banks, higher output inverter, and higher output dc2dc chargers. Idling the engine can easily produce more than 10x the current produced by solar panels, or a small additional generator. Idling the vehicle engine to produce current, or charge batteries is not a waste of the fuel. Hopefully with these improvements fully realized, tailgating, or life in an off-grid rig will no longer have to pride itself on being just an impractical, unrealistic thrill, but actually an openly justified, and worthwhile thing to do.
@unidanengineering
@unidanengineering Год назад
Thanks for the feedback, however we have to disagree on a lot of these points. Our expedition vehicles are designed to stay off-grid for extended periods of time and also have the ability for our customer to enjoy one place for an extended time without driving around, hence the use of solar. We love constructive criticism and always take this on board, however these designs have been tweaked and perfected for years (and years since this video was produced). We are currently sold out with a 12-18month lead time because the practicality, quality and design of our builds is valued by our customers both within Australia and internationally 😊
@unidanengineering
@unidanengineering Год назад
Our priority in our builds is storage, water capacity and off-grid living. Additional free-space for living space is counterintuitive and removing key items like Solar is extremely impractical. Not to mention removing the bathroom and therefore making the whole body open to being wet, this would very quickly become frustrating to wipe down every time you use the shower and then want to use the rest of the space functionally without getting wet feet etc., on top of privacy 🤔
@vincebenego8548
@vincebenego8548 Год назад
@@unidanengineering It's hard territory industrializing something like this when it's all still very new ground and one can hardly tell great ideas from less than great ideas for the sake of producing a steady projectile onto the market. I think the U5000 being a mass produced vehicle is something I should consider when I want my suggestions to be heard by the market that demands a good exploration vehicle. I think it's important to know your base, and not to confuse costumer satisfaction with making a great product as costumer satisfaction can be based solely on delivering to what you advertise, and not necessarily having a great product that meets the demand of the particular market it's in, rather than the companies demand for success. I don't mean for one to have drive the vehicle, I actually only mean for the engine to be running whether driving, or parked basically replacing all of the use of an additional generator. Solar is expensive and does not produce a lot of current. It creates bulk on the roof. Even if solar panels are strong enough to walk on, they're not stronger than the roof. 900 watt production is not practical electrical usage for an average person in a day. It's not worth it if we can have more electric availability at less expense if we wanted to. The proposal is for more alternators, and batteries to use between engine ignitions. Solar can always be an after thought but definitely not a priority. Subtracting taken space, weight, and expenses from black & gray water systems, solar, and the additional generator, should provide room on the same chassis for enough batteries to have a realistic power availability for everyday use between engine ignitions at a lower cost than using solar. A company might have the same dream as what a particular market demands, but ultimately the consumer only settles for what the company puts out.
@vincebenego8548
@vincebenego8548 Год назад
@@unidanengineering Maybe your priority should not be storage and water capacity if it's off grid living. Additional free-space for living space is actually not counterintuitive. I already talked about removing solar, and how its not impractical at all, but let's explain the spacing, shower, and toilet. It's good to ponder, but privacy will be hard to come by in a rig that is not properly sorted out. I believe this rig has privacy, but at the expense of functionality. A shower inside a rig with a wet shower is typically so small, you will be indecent as soon as you are finished, and leaving it. This pushes guests too remain outside of the rig entirely anyways. Removing the walls is an attempt to treat the cabin space like a giant luxurious shower room liken unto a walk-in showers in small mansions, or niche resorts. A curtain is the proposed apparatus for controlling water splatter. The idea of the completely wet floor is that in the event of an everyday spill, it will be more anticipated than with regular a floor. Grooves in the floor control water travel, and perhaps magnets in the ceiling for the curtain. Dedicated floor and ceiling air to help control moisture during and after washes. There should not be much wiping down. The shower could be any size or, in any place on the floor within the cabin. The toilet does not have to be inside of it. There can be more individual curtains, or tambour dooring for added walls, and on demand floor plan flexibility. The toilet does not have to use water, or flush. The toilet is the biggest example of familiarity over function. Urinals work for both men and woman. Separating liquids from solids is ideal. There is no pipe to magically whisk it away. It will be a dirty job at some point in a mobile rig. Black water lets it pile up in a volatile state that makes processing it unsanitary. This is vastly undeveloped territory, but the best I see is the bag and bucket. Especially the collapsing bag and bucket toilet because it takes less space. Ventilation can be added. A new design for the segment could be inbound. Composting is ok but it's bulky, complicated, smelly, and expensive. Without black water, and because of me, now yellow water only will be a thing. You say storage is a focus, and living as well, but if living is a focus then what are you using the storage for? Camping, and exploring are very specific activities that are not fully related to living. They are temporary activities. Living is a permanent activity. Living implies the use of permanent living appliances such as dish washer, cloths washer, and cloths dryer. The similarity between the two extends to the fact that you can use permanent living appliances for temporary living activities, but not the other way around, because having more places to put your cloths, and camping gear, does not wash them when they get dirty. Therefore it's worth the reduction in storage space on the chassis, if it's replaced with permanent living appliances. Lastly one of the biggest permanent living essentials is having a proper study / work desk. Not just a diner for your laptop. A workstation area with appropriate accommodations for multiple monitors, a tower PC, and all appropriate peripherals to sustain ones digital lifestyle. It's not practical staying away from regular work and school activities for long periods of time, especially when our rigs are perfectly capable of accommodating these aspects of our lives, even if we are not using them for longer stretches of time off the grid. It's just convenience. I honestly believe theses vehicles can be a major convenience to our lives, but they have to be designed right. Like I said I don't think upfitters realize how much current alternator can put out for you. Granted not in stock configuration, this would be an aftermarket adaptation amid at maximizing the vehicle from the chassis up. There's actually a myriad of modifications that can be done to add umph to just about any stock truck to get the most out of it, but in particular pertaining to off grid living; Reliability included. For some figures: 2x aftermarket GM truck alternators ran in tandem can produce 9,600 watts of DC current, for approximately just $1,400 USD. You're not American, so good luck with that, but I know you paid more than that for only 900 watts of solar. When those things are realized, then you can worry about things like water storage, which if you've replaced black and gray, you would probably still have room for more water. Granted my inspiration comes from the international space station where one simply sits in it, and everything is done for them in what I believe is the ultimate RV. While the ISS does not have a chassis, or 4WD, I believe it's inspirations can be implemented to make better RVs. I'd be happy if you guys could hire me. I would be an invaluable asset to anyone that gives me a head design position at their company. Clearly passionate, driven etcetera. It brings me true joy to see the technical side of these machines done right, and bringing peace to the people who question how they're going to accomplish their off grid pursuits. If not for you, there is always another way. However, I live in the US, and I'm a dedicated patriate, so while I am optimistic, I remain realistic although for a person of my engineerical complex, the real, and the phantoms constantly have to blur lines. In other words, if you want something to happen, you make it happen. Sincerely (Smile)
