Got mine on sale this week. And Michael White's 6 year video is still the best resource for anyone serious about their craft. Thank you Michael! 🙏

+mkvemcee Yes, sounds great and is worth it just for the inter-sample peak rebuilding. Cheers! Mike

Hey Mike, I had trouble finding the on/off for that "hint" window as well.... but I found it -- if you click on the Sonnox button, it produces a drop-down options menu. From there, click on "Enable Tooltips", which toggles the display of those hovering tooltip things. I quite like this limiter! I've been using the Fabfilter Pro-L for a good while, and I like it as well (especially the ISP functionality). Different flavors for different things. :)

+slamcrank Hey slamcrank, Great, thanks for the find on that! I thought I clicked there, but must have confused it with the menus just above. Yes, I love the Fabfilter Pro-L as well. Too many great tools, too little time... Cheers! Mike

Hey Mike, another excellent demo. I have heard really great things about Sonnox products. It's nice to see a review on them from somebody who knows what they're talking about. BTW, it seems as if a lot of mixers are also musicians. I suppose that isn't very surprising. Are you a player too?

+Phil Sackett Sonnox are amazing. The dynamics plugin is impossibly transparent. I've been using them for years, the whole bundle is great. Not the UA, but VST.

+Phil Sackett Hi Phil, I started out playing guitar in a punk band in the late 70's. In spite of the barre chord laden nature of the music I loved at the time, I went on to study at Berklee College of Music where I stumbled into the Music Production program that had just started up there. Since I focused most of my energy in engineering, my performance skills suffered terribly. That said, being a musician was invaluable to being an engineer. Cheers! Mike

Ah, a Boston kid! My neck of the woods! Didn't know you went to Berklee Mike! Rock on.

+Michael White Ah, Berklee, I know more than a few great musicians who went there. I stayed in L.A. and went to MI back in 1985. Not exactly Berklee, but the sheer number of awesome players was worth the year there. Thanks for the quick bio. I'm always interested in where talented people come from.

As long as you have great teachers and great people around you, you can't help but get better. If I lived in LA at the time, I probably would have ended up at MI too. Cheers!

Hey Mike, I'm trying this on my Mastering session in place of the Izotope Maximizer that I've been using & of course you have the best video out here that I've seen on this! Question about dithering. If my session is 44.1k & 24 bit & that's what I'm printing for the final master, should I just turn off the dither function or what 'should' I be doing to ensure the best quality for digital streaming services? Thanks Mike, Cheers! =)
@mixingwithmike
@mixingwithmike Год назад
Do not use dither if your session is already at 24bit. It's only for situations where the export is at a lower bit rate than the session

@@mixingwithmike That's what I figured, Thank you for clarifying Mike! =)

It was all looking so promising until I spotted the 1ms attack time... So much more restrictive than the Fabfilter Pro-L for example. Will the 'enhance' function work even if I'm not using it as a limiter..?
@mixingwithmike
@mixingwithmike 8 лет назад
+kye903 I was a bit surprised at first as well about the 1 ms attack time but that is the typical attack time range of most hardware limiters, especially broadcast limiters like the LA2A and Fairchild 670. The Neve 2254 has an attack of about 5-7ms on it's limiter and I almost never end up using it as a result. Historically and by design, a "Limiter" has a fast attack. The word "Limiter" is more than just a ratio number, its a fundamental design principle that is meant to "Limit" transient signals to control overall program level. I think Sonnox is staying true to that principle here. As far as the Enhance feature goes, I think this plugin always acts as a limiter regardless of whether you use it or not. I guess you could bring down the input level so there is no GR from the limiter and use the enhance feature. Great plugin to me. This is now a regular part of my mastering chain. Cheers! Mike
