My current favorite drum overhead setup is a Beyer M160 looking straight down at the kit as a mid mic. A Townsend Sphere L22 is positioned as the sides in an M/S configuration. In the 180 (stereo) version of the Sphere software, setting the width all the way puts the 2 sides of the mic out of polarity relative to one another. When mixing I can choose whether to use M/S, a mono OH (either the Sphere or the Beyer). I can swap the mic models of the Sphere to change the tone, rotate the axis which really affects the high end, or change the sonic characteristic and width by choosing different polar patterns. The choices it offers once mixing allows me to change the tone, width, amount of room, etc. to make the drums work with the rest of the arrangement. It's just amazing. I honestly could not care less how accurate the models are to the originals. Calling it a "Modelling Microphone" almost diminishes what it does.

Hello, I bought a new uad sphere dlx, but do I have to record my vocals in stereo? Will I experience any losses if I switch it to mono later? I know it's always better to record in mono and mic collection doesn't allow that :(

Can you use the modeling software without having a UA interface? If I connect the DLX to EVO 16, can I then run the software too, or is it UA exclusive? Thanks a lot.

Maybe its just my ears, but there is something processed sounding to these mics...hard to put my finger on but theres like a digital layer over all the sounds

The only downside of this microphone is that it makes you want to sell your other ones :'(

Doesn't matter.. the mic is another sound device really.. especially in mixdown mode.. play with proximity and pause after recording with said DLX Mic is a bonus.. especially if you do not own very many mics.. Artistry affordable.. im saving now .;-)
