You may have seen some of the harsh comments and messages I received on my previous video. They made me think.
Why did I chose bicycle touring as a way of life?
As a kid, cycling was a way to explore my physical boundaries. Then, it became a dream to cycle from Germany to Pakistan. Later it was an adventure which turned into passion. During my four-year bicycle trip from Argentina to Alaska, it was all about exploring places & cultures and documenting them.
But now, bicycle touring is as much an inner journey as outer. It is a way to let go of things, attachments, and worries. It has turned into a spiritual journey.
Curiosity about this world has driven me to choose cycling as a mode of transport as it is an intimate way to observe the world.
I believe curiosity is the precursor to learning. And humility is the precursor to curiosity.
Thus, if we truly want to learn, we have to unlearn and see like a curious child; without the lens of religion, tradition, and what has been told to us. Our thoughts and our perceptions pollute what our eyes observe. The only truth is what we experience. The rest is only teachings by others.
There is beauty in everything if we become eyes only. When we are mere observers, we perceive the true spirit of what is in front of us.
And two eyes are not enough. What we need the most is the third eye; the one in the heart.
As I pedal long stretches of roads, see places, and meet people and listen to their stories, I always remind myself to keep the eye of the heart open.
And whatever I capture and write, it is done with utmost sincerity of the heart.
You may like it or not. It may be irrelevant to you or may directly collide with your ideology. But for me it is an observation and even appreciation of what I was able to witness.
Many people have forgotten how to be polite. We need to be more kind and show more care towards each others. Everyone loves travel, but we still confine ourselves to boxes. We all need to learn to observe with the purity in our hearts. The rest will follow.
This film shows some glimpses of the UAE. I also wanted to write some observations, but right now, my mind is somewhere else.
