hey guys!
Today I decided to take you around UBC Exchange Residence! It is one of the newest year-round residence buildings with beautiful new, bright, and clean rooms. It is an absolutely wonderful place to live - it has everything you need! between the fitness facility, the music rooms, study lounge, outdoor space, and close proximity to the nest, the bus loop and so much more... Exchange really is an amazing place to live. So! Join me as I wander around awkwardly holding my camera in front of my face and trying to avoid people haha 😋
I was fortunate enough to be able to sublet my studio for one term. With COVID-19 messing with travel, classes, and life in general, I was able to snag a place at the last minute! If you are interested in living at Exchange, be sure to apply for year round housing! Exchange is for upper year students and only offers year round contracts. Even if you won't be here all year or need a place, you can always consider subletting your room to another student (thats how I managed to get a room).
If you are thinking residence might be for you make sure to check my playlist all about my experience living in residence, room types, meal plans, and all that jazz: • My First Year at UBC
If you have any questions at all feel free to reach out! You know what to do 👏🏼👏🏼

Hey Maddy, love the video like always. I was wondering how you got In to exchange in your second year? and what room style you got (and if its year round, for a term, or subletting)? I'm starting my first year in September (even tho I graduated HS 2 years ago) and I just put in my application for YRH at exchange so I'll be ready when year 1 is over for me. It's currently march so I'm applying over a year early. I was just so curious when you applied and how long it took to get in? also do you think the pandemic had a play in you getting a spot more quickly?

Hi Nolan! So glad to hear! I am currently subletting a studio (not a nano suite). Good for you to get ahead of it! YRH waitlists can be really long especially at places like Exchange. Because I am subletting I didn't have to sign up for YRH or wait to get it. I saw the offer, messaged the person and sent a deposit in. It was really easy! In some ways the pandemic has helped because a lot of international students were not able to come back to Canada or chose not too. There were a lot fo rooms available so I got to be a little picky with where I stayed haha!

Hey Maddy! Thanks for the tour! I was wondering if you had any tips for looking for subletting for studios (most offers I see nowadays are for multiple bedroom apartments)
@MaddyA
@MaddyA 3 года назад
Hi! Unfortunately not really. Studio's are tough to find because most people want them. Besides checking regularly, there isn't much else you can do :/

Hi Mandy Which residential is located nearest to Computer Science building? How far is the distance apart?

thank you Maddy for that tour. I myself am a first-year but am currently not on campus. Just a quick question. If I am on the waitlist for exchange in the 300's, what are the chances I would get the residence ??
@MaddyA
@MaddyA 3 года назад
Of course! Hope you enjoyed! That is a really great spot to be in on the waitlist. It depends on so many things with regards to the number of students that renew their contracts, move out, etc. That varies each year but overall it sounds like you are in a good position!

What a nice place to live, Maddy! I wonder who can apply for residence here and how to, since I study my 1st year online, I don’t know anything about ubc campus 😞😭

hi! sorry to comment again lmao but i just saw your studio tour and came back to this video! i’m trying to choose between ponderosa and exchange for my upper year housing. exchange looks so gorgeous and new but the only thing i’m kinda concerned about is the location? i know you said it’s really close to the nest and bus loop which is great, but i’m worried it’ll be far from most of my classes (i’m an arts student) do you ever feel like exchange is too far from your classes / inconvenient? i would appreciate your input!!
@MaddyA
@MaddyA 3 года назад
hi! this year i didn't have to really walk anywhere for my classes haha but honestly, its not that bad. you are probably looking at at least a 10 minute walk to any of your classes... depending on how slow/fast you walk. I never felt that it was inconvenient at all! I could totally see how it could be if you classes on the other end of campus though. if you really are concerned with being central you may have better luck with ponderosa!

@@MaddyA thank you so much for your reply!! i usually like walking so 10mins give or take sounds okay to me! and exchange looks so amazing, both the common areas and your studio.. i think i might put exchange as my first choice! :) thank you so much for all your help and the great videos :)

how do you get to the front desk when you arrive for the first time ? is the door is 5960 student union always open ?
@MaddyA
@MaddyA 2 года назад
The doors are always open. You can only get to the front desk though...anything beyond that requires a key. On move in day, there will be staff and volunteers there to help you move in.

How is the construction noise situation now? Heard it's quite bad and wondering should I apply to transfer to it. Thanks
@MaddyA
@MaddyA 3 года назад
I am not bothered by it but I am not right beside it. I can hear it if my window is open though. The two buildings closest to exchange are almost complete so the noise isn't as bad anymore but I think there are still three more to go before the new residence is complete... I can't imagine the noise is going away any time soon.

@@velaris22 ah okay! I wasn't on a waitlist because I sublet my studio from someone who already had the room. You are only on a waitlist if you directly apply to year round or winter housing and don't get it right away.
