April 1 nationwide airport work stoppage 4-8pm in your time zone lets send a clear message to the shareholders Uber stands for Unethical Business Every Ride
Great episode as always! Catherine is a wonderful example of a veteran driver worth their weight in gold. How shortsighted can Uber & Lyft be ?!? Sergio as you explain to us 80% of the rides are done by 20% of full time/veteran drivers that are most importantly safe, courteous drivers that help keep the insurance cost down and the passengers satisfied. The idea that veterans are a burden because they won’t work for peanuts and that is good business throwing buckets of money as incentives to attract inexperienced new drivers that won’t last more than a few months is pure insanity. I think this is what Uber & Lyft CEOs should realize. It’s a valuable skill to drive day in day out without accidents and be pleasant and respectful to passengers at the same time. 🙏🚙
Ubers CEO and lyft too could care less about what you the driver thinks or feels. Only how much they clear in the few years they have at the top. Period. Since this is now a somewhat mature industry/service it needs heavy government regulation.
All apps have a cap and the only way for me to make it in Texas is to multi app and focus on getting the tips with offering Extras out of my trunk or mini fridge !
Something is beyond my understanding! I always ask myself why these companies don't raise the rides fees on the rider like everything else increased? I mean why charge the rider only 4 bucks for a short trip in 2024? By increasing fares, these companies make more and also drivers can make more to cover their expenses and make some profit
I think you may have things mixed up. In my market there is no such thing as a $4 trip for a rider. The lowest it goes for a ride is about $8.25 and on that trip the DRIVER would get paid about $4 (maybe less). Right now as Im typing this I checked the Uber rider app and to get a ride going 0.25 mile from my house would cost me $11.68 and I know the driver would make no more than $4. You ask why the companies don’t raise rates on rider? Well they do, but the money does not get passed on to the driver. Uber keeps the increased price of the ride. Uber / Lyft don’t care about the driver, their concern is how to charge the passenger more and pay the driver less so THEY make more money. They DO..NOT..CARE..ABOUT..DRIVERS!
@@smartin684 I'm in Canada so I was referring to the situation here. Uber take is 25% of the fare plus taxes, which isn't bad compared to you guys in the states! However, zero incentives or offers here! Also we don't have upfront fares (assumingly it is coming in 2024) so we accept trips blindly and the fares are not equivalent to the inflation we have in the last 2 years. By the way in Canada it's mostly an Uber market, Lyft share here is almost nonexistent.
Just want to let you know, on Wednesday, Uber forwarded me 421.00 for an accounting error from 22 & 23. I was not aware there was an issue (it had to do with EV promo) and yet it was corrected. Thanx Uber!
These gig apps and cell phones are the equivalent of adult busy boxes to keep ppl distracted from the real effects of the "Building Back Better " economy. You've seen those busy boxes for babies right? Spin the wheel, turn the knob, open the little door with the .mirror behind it so you can "see the baby",, lol yeah same thing but for adults. Doordash in Seattle was forced to pay gig workers 78 cents a mile and 44 cents a min or a min of $5 an order. Now orders have decreased by 2,150/day or 30,000 less orders over two weeks. But at least car costs are being covered (as long as you're sitting still with the motor off and not getting robbed or carjacked while doing so) 44 cents a min imagine that! $26.40 an hour. Is it any wonder doordash chose to pay $5 min per offer instead? More than $5 at a 44. cent per minute rate waiting 5 minutes for an order to be made...wait another 5 minutes for customer to come to the door. Imagine if rideshare drivers got paid for driving to the customer at that rate! Upfront pricing is upfront bullshit. Turn the apps off and put the busy boxes away. Lmao
Veteran driver in Los Angeles here. These last 2 weeks the money has gotten better, for me at least. No surge, but still making around $25 - $30 an hour on UberX/Lyft. The slow season sucks, but after 7 years of rideshare I'm used to it and still enjoy the job.
How and why did it get better for you? Because I’m only relying on my prop 22 to make my money. But if it’s getting much better, I’ll go back to cherry picking!
@@kookoothebirdgirl1Well, obviously the slow season is ending and demand is picking up. Also I work during the hours with the least traffic. So as long as demand is steady, traffic and congestion isn't a factor. My best friend drives for Uber/Lyft and he makes shit money because he doesn't adapt and make IT work for him. The money is definitely not great in 2024 but the job definitely still works for me 😁🙏
The mystery surge "heat map" has been in effect in Cincinnati since December (approximately) This has severely decreased my earnings. Everything she says is true - the disappearing incentives, the hourly cap with upfront. I have been telling everyone about this for a while now and on New Years Eve the surges were nearly non-existent even though the heat map was blazing purple all over. Example: I got a ride to drive about 6 blocks downtown for $14. Passenger was charged $44. And I wondered why no tip. LOL
At the end of the day. Drivers go out and drive. In the hopes to get that surge and unicorn. If you stop surging the prices. No one will drive. $0.40 a mile isn’t it ! $2.87 min fare ride on Lyft isn’t it!
I have found that the deeper you dig into the way it works the angrier you will get. they want you to jump into car, get online, go, and NOT dissect or question anything. sometimes I do this just to make money without getting upset. (you still have to look out for the ocasional total rip off though)
All of this happening in Tulsa. There’s no way to make stacking useful. Lyft offered “Turbo” percentages added to base rates plus surges. Base rates were dropped to the point that a driver might make less than the normal rate or if they are lucky, make $.30 more than the normal rate. This with a “40% “ turbo and a $2 surge.
Here in Honolulu we dont have upfront pricing. But im on rides from the moment I turn on the app until i hit the red button. I have to hit the coffee cup for bathroom breaks its that busy. And I do filter rides, dont take rides that are short or under a rating of 4.8. The issues here are rude passengers that I hate.
April 1st Next Big Protest. Catherine get your CDL Class B License and say goodbye to Uber and Lyft and get a real good Job Driving Public Transportation driving buses or School Buses for the city with double pension plus benefits and making $25 or $35 an hour and quit doing Uber and Lyft they don't care about their drivers and what you guys get paid they don't pay you for all online hours and keep cutting your pay every year.
Once a passenger gets into your car you start making good money, instead of calculating trip mileage, I know what a minimum trip is worth, and I ask one question, how far will I drive to pick up the minimum amount, and that answer is 5 minutes or less, so UNLESS THERE IS A SURGE, I do not drive more than 5 minutes to pick someone up. the only information you should use is HOW FAR s the passenger to pick up, nothing else is important, except long trip/multiple stops... I usually take long trips and never accept multiple stops. if you are driving more than 7 minutes to a trip you are not doing yourself a favor. Time is money, Limit the time you drive to people and you will get happier customers and you will be a happier driver. Trust me (21% acceptance rate) try it this way.
Yea, never drive more than 7 mins to pickup is a good rule, but only because the may be a no show and you have to wait 7 more minutes to collect the no-show fee. Imagine driving 12 minutes for a no show and then have to wait for 7 more minutes for $4.70. BTW, long trips are less lucrative the longer they are. In my market the profitable long rides are about 8-10 miles on the highway. Anything over that is a money loser. And no multiple stops.
@@smartin684 Long trips here are worth it, even with deadheading back, my city pays $.98 per mile toward fare, but the long trip city only pays $.78 so it is not worth it. minimum trips pay $3.70 and to pay more they have to go over 3 miles. most trips average 5 miles, but since my AR(acceptance rate) is so low they only tell me ho far it is to drive to passenger, and when I adjusted to the under 7 rule, I never regretted it. The other thing about it is when you do not drive 8-18 minutes to the fare the other drivers will, keeping them offline/downtime while they drive that far. The more downtime accumulated the worse, its a simple formula, and the mental benefits from not driving across town for people create economic benefits as well.. if I drive 3 minutes to someone and wait 2-5 minutes and do a minimum ride(about 5 -6 minutes) and they tip me 3 bucks I am winning. However when the trip is longer it is even better. Making this the best percentage chance to max earnings. also surges pop up when you refuse 6-8 crappy long up drive trips. The bottom line is to get someone in your car the quickest you can.
REMEMBER THO: The pot people SHOULD be taking the Uber instead of driving. At least they’re not on the road being dummies. We have enough people driving with cell phones and doing other lame things.
I enjoyedy time as a FT female rideshare drive. However, like most in the comment section, I am looing for a W2 job again. I drive late at night into the rush hour in both Richmond and Baltimore (I float between both cities) but I'm having to spend more time on the road...and I'm already working 10-12 hours almost daily. 🥹
I agree with her about the surge. I'm in the DC metro area as a veteran female driver, and the majority of the surges per mile are much lower than they use to be. Sometimes the surge does disappear when you're sitting in a surge area. I'm talking about Uber.
Sometimes they refuse to pay the surge even if you have a screenshot of the offer. Their support people will accuse you of manipulation of gps if you keep arguing with them.
in my city if you pause Uber and drive through a surge it will snag the surge and save it even if you leave the surge area. so when I'm doing a Lyft ride I'll run the Uber app on pause and snag surges I drive through then do an Uber surged trip on the next trip.
I am DONE driving for Lyft after being a part-time driver off and on for over 6 years. I already have a full-time career making 65k per year as a Dog groomer. Why should I continue driving for Lyft only making $15-$20 per hour before expenses when I already make $45 per hour at my real job? I used to make more like $30+ per hour on Lyft when hitting bonuses, but ever since the new CEO took over the only way I can hit those bonuses is driving 8+ hours per day. IMPOSSIBLE for a part time driver who already has a career. Just get a regular job guys, not worth it anymore.
I feel like they have a motive. they want a 100% turnover rate. since we have option to control our end, once we figure out what is the most benificial for us, it becomes less beneficial for them. im sure they rate us individually by how profitable we are to the company via algorithm. new people, reitired/less concerned, and non critical thinkers are their favorite.
In my small town if all the drivers reject the low fare trip they keep rotating it to different drivers with a higher fare,I then accept it at its maximum and reasonable price.
@sergioSMTMC1 yes, but you got to be patient. I did a ride was about 20 minutes, made $13. But i do get many offers that are extremely low, specially in orange county, less than $3.00 I'm not gonna accept low fares, don't know who is stupid enough to drive for charity.
In the surge area, they give us a couple of dollars back from at least $10 extra that they charged riders. All is about making money for the big guys on top, oil companies, car companies, etc...
Sometimes their algorithm shaves some off the ride to offset your surge. You still make more, but the deception makes you earn less than you would have.
I haven’t seen the mystery surge in LA, yet, but it sounds really stupid! And I gotta say, I’m only working for the prop 22 these days, because with the lack of surges and decent weekly bonuses, my earnings have decreased by HALF since last year. I hated prop 22, at first because I was making at least about 30 dollars per hour, and I didn’t need it.But now, I’m relying heavily on it or else I would be making absolutely nothing!
I one star every single rider that smells like weed and I leave a note why. That really could get me deactivated cause the next person I pick up might smell it and think I'm driving intoxicated and report me. I gotta cover my ass.
Sergio in my opinion Catherine was the best guest I have seen on your show she was very intelligent, articulate, and very beautiful mature lady cuz we all know when we get older beauty is not only skin deep. Catherine you ROCK ON GIRL!!!!
I think drivers should have the ability to tell customers that come into the vehicle and start eating, vapong that they will be a $20 cleaninh fee and be able to invoice this fee to Uber to bill customer. I know Uber dont want to do tayt because then they cant steal our cleaning fee. If you can prove through dashcam the customer did these things it should be acceptable to request a $20 cleaning fee. This does not include cleaning fees for bodily fluids,
This has become such a miserable experience so fast I honestly can't even watch the show friends anymore after David Schwimmer and Jennifer Anniston did a commercial for uber.
The only way to make money is take trips less than 15 miles….. And the renters are killing the market, because they think they’re making money and take everything..I tried rental for 1 week and took everything, trips came consistently. But when I use my own car, I have to wait for a trip.
I'm 7 months in and I was getting paid so much in the beginning. Now, I have to ride twice as long to make the same pay. Thinking about going else where idk what yet.
Same exact here . Started in September and i was doing sooooo well ! I removed my app for now . My account is still active but lost motivation as there are no rewards.
We are not subsidizing passenger fares, we are however subsidizing Dara's 2023 performance bonus package, Im sure you will be officially hearing about it all over the news. Shockingly. Im doing more and more rides for Lyft, for those who are strictly dedicated to Uber I urge you to give Lyft a shot, you will thank me.
There is no flexibility on Uber/ Lyft app. It’s down time you make 12$ per hour and did you think you have flexibility by doing 12$ per hour defines flexibility? No it’s BS.
I wouldn't miss a company that steal my wages & claim I am independent contractor but treat me via contract as an employee. I miss meeting people & the money.
Fellow Hampton Roads driver .. I started with Uber, last July.. started with Lyft 2 months later .. I’ve done more Lyft rides than Uber at this point. however.. Uber has more demand in Hampton roads. I am also a beverage delivery driver.. so I’m up early early.. good money out there if you can get up. Good to see a local driver in my market. Time of the day is key here. I’m still doing well enough that I’m considering going full time.. however the unknown of how quick these platforms can change on you is a bit scary
I just started 8 weeks ago in Va Beach, I’m still trying to figure out my areas that I like and make any decent money. There are some real sketchy people in this area though.
I have been driving part-time for about a year Uber only and recently started driving full-time in the past month or two and added Lyft. One trick I have discovered is that If I pick someone up with Uber while I am driving them to their destination I stop Uber and start Lyft and try to find a lift pick up near the destination of the Uber drop off and start the lift trip getting paid by both companies at the same time. drop off the Uber passenger pick up the lift passenger now stop lift and start Uber and do the same thing to again get paid by both companies at the same time. I've been able to increase my hourly by 25 to 50% depending on how busy it is and whether or not I can cycle through rides to find parallel rides on both apps.
I have been driving with UBER for almost 5 years with a 5 star rating in upstate NY. I agree 1000% with Catherine on everything she is stating. I started UBER upon retiring and closing my business. It was great at first but now it has diminished to an all time low. This will be my last week driving with UBER.
That 30 something dropped to 20 something for me too and once I make so much it gets worse so I go for 500.00 on each app to get to my 2500 a week that just is not going to happen in 40 hrs and I love pop 😂
Drivers on Uber and Lyft are not Independent Contractors - whether it's for part time and/or Full time hours. For example, the fact that drivers do not have access to their ratings and reviews left by Passengers. When I go out to a restaurant I can see and leave a (Google) review of the establishment/Business. As a driver, you don't have full access to that from Uber/Lyft. you see a few numbers with not much data as to the why. When you work a 9-5 job every employee has a file that's held by the HR department. You can request that file by writing a letter however, you may not get everything in that file. As an independent Contractor you need to run your business and information from ratings should be 100% accessible to every driver from Uber and Lyft. Same goes for earnings as well. We are in the right to have 100% transparency because it's your business and if not then technically Rideshare drivers are employees but are purposely being misclassified for obvious reasons.
The way Uber application is written is to adapt live automatically towards a preset profit for Uber at the financial expense ( = loss ) of the driver. Do you think that this is legal? If every company in the country was doing this abuse in the labor field, it would be a violent revolution in the USA. Uber must make such a level of profit that assures the tens of million dollars bonus for its CEO...😉 The driver doesn't matter to corporations, and you can complain as much as you want about raising costs, lower wages, etc, because if you don't get organized into an organization that can fight back legally for what's fair wages, then nothing can be done in this situation unless the government from the labor department intervenes.
Where do we send you our screenshots? I have some from the New Uber comfort mode where they charge riders HUGE SUMS of $: $120 to get out of the airport… and my take was 44% of that. It’s crazy. Riders get charged around 4$ a mile. Pay is 1.3$ a mile.
I thought uber was more strict on their vehicles i was actually shocked if i wanted to drive in my husbands work vehicle i could its a 2011 kia sorrento it is pristine we owned it since day 1...but it def doesnt seem appropriate to pick ppl up in and gas cost way to much to use it... i have a 2018 Hyundai elentra, and i thought it was getting almost too old to use it for rideshare. But i realized yesterday i was way wrong!! I had no idea it was 15 yrs old i think i read... i def have seen lots of beat up cars around! Its insane!
This happened in Pittsburgh tonight too u didnt know that there was a surge. I didnt realize what it was but uber was paying dbl what lyft paid today i took same airport trip same time of day last week uber paid me $35 dollars but then increased it and was anotther like 10 lyft took same trip within a block got paid $20 i had no clue it was that low i enjoy our airport trips because its usually nice drive with some higbway...when i seen what the ride paid me i almost threw up! I don't always she the $ amt i drive a manual so its hard enough accepting rides n driving in city traffic. So i took only one lyft ride today. Because that was crazy what they paid and ended up an extra 20 mins for the trip lyft gave $0 extra!!
I still average around 24-29 per hour but I used to be at 30-35 per hour and those were great! But passengers don't tip like they used to because it's expensive and they think that we get most of the fair
April 1 work stoppage airports nationwide bigger than 2 hours lets make it 4-8pm in your respective time zones Dara makes 130 million net in options as they are diminishing take rates 😮
North Carolina is experiencing everything she speak of. So many weak drivers that dont take a stand. I'm a fighter and never a quitter! Thank you for fighting for us Sergio!!
Out of curiosity if there are any places in the country that people actually are still enjoying rotting I'm sorry driving and doing Rideshare I'm wondering if there are places that are actually still profitable for people or if every Market every area every region is dealing with what we're dealing with
Good truthful and Intellectual interview. Drivers are making 6.50 dollars an hour net on an average. Whenever we quote figures we must ensure in a our daily lingo gross and net this way we are always clear for other drivers to learn.
6 50..... Surely that means there are too many drivers in your area. My market is still paying 36hr all hours of the day no waiting for rides whatsoever
