Good stuff, Kai. For clarification, Ironman 4x4 UCAs provide around 2 degrees of caster correction for 4 degrees of total caster capability. We'll update our website so that's more clear. Keep up the great videos!
@@TinkerersAdventure I have a 2015 tundra with 3 inch lift and 295/70r18 and my tires are close to the upper control arm will one of these help me with that ?
I’m buying a new “used kit” this weekend and this answered my 1 major question as I plow with my truck so now I don’t have to worry about my cab mounts!
This guy just saved me over $800. Since i was on the fence about getting UCA on a low lift...i figured i would get a set anyway for peace of mind. Thanks for the reassurance of not needing it for my application. Answered all my questions pertaining to my setup
Again, amazingly well presented content. The practical demonstration of your talking points makes the information so easy to follow. You deserve the sponsorship!
Don't ever stop! This channel is by far the most informative and concise knowledge base on RU-vid for toyota 4x4s. I'm building a gx460 overlander and this has been a huge help.
Another excellent video PACKED with info and free from any strong biases. I absolutely love your content and can't believe you "only" have 11k subscribers. Keep it up and this channel is sure to blow up to 500k+! Thanks for all the effort you put into these!
This video was so well done. I rarely subscribe to channels, but immediate subscription here. This is exactly the kind of understanding I love to have and great to have complex concepts broken down and explained so clearly. Superb work!
I’m so thankful I found your video. I have a 22 Tacoma and I have been back and forth about getting UCAs when I’m only going to have 2-2.5” of lift on 5100s. I have been told many different things but nobody can explain anything or has tested their theories. I’ve been hovering over the checkout button, but you just saved me $700 lol. I appreciate the explanation. Definitely following you now. Look forward to watching more of your videos when I have the time. Thanks again.
I have spc on my FJ and my ball joints only made it 20,000 miles. After researching, there are a lot of people having issues with spc. I only took my Toyota out 3 times in 20,000 miles and easy offroading. Greased them etc when the time was right. Still work out pre maturly. Hit n miss with these. I suggest going with a different brand. 👍
Anyone building a Yota would do well to follow you closely. The amount of time you spend to validate a thought instead of just saying it's so should be appreciated by all. It's hard to argue with proof we can see and sometimes results we think to be don't always pan out. With this channel the info is here and the decision is clear for viewers. There is a future for you with Toyota R and D or a Baja team somewhere if you so chose. Kinda like Walls, people notice. These days most just consider a Google search the end all. It's nice to see the older style of actually putting in work to earn your dues instead of reading an article or two and feeling as if you've done it all.
Love the explanation, one thing I think you could really drive home would be that some components are designed to be the weak link, such as the upper control arm might be designed to bend in an accident to prevent some frame damage or something
this kind of analytical content is exactly what this community needs. thanks! my only suggestion is that sometimes there are no pauses in the talking so i can be hard to follow or assimilate information. it is fast pace!
Wow, waited years and years to have this topic explained in such a way it was highly technical but also extremely understandable…. Massive value. Chris through the hype and nonsense found in marketing. Love it. can’t wait to soak up more of your vids. GX will one day get mods after I pry it out of my wife’s hands for offroading purposes 😂
Found this video because me and my son are about to change UCAs on his 1997 tacoma 4x4. Great information, definitely appreciated from an old man in Florida
I don't have a Toyota. I actually have a Mercedes but I do my own work on it and your channel has given me a lot of information that I can use on my vehicle. Thank you.
I love this channel. One thing I would like you to cover is... What happens with the Panhard's bar when you install a lift (bp-51 3" or Dobinsons 3.5")? How it affects the vehicle? and how everyone forget to adjust it when lifting a vehicle?
Great video thanks so much for the content as I did a 3 in lift on my tacoma with out changing the UCA's and killed my tires and control arms. Now I am putting a proper lift.
Finally, here in Philippines I don't think most owner shops would think about this camber/caster etc. alignment. The goal mostly is to sell, they use grinder to solve rubbing issues.
@@TinkerersAdventure consider stickers too! Your logo is pretty cool. Some of us would prefer that since it’s more of a gesture for your work we enjoy!
This is simply amazing content. I love that there is fake personality or whacky sound effects... I love that you don't cram loads of dumb jokes and filler that we have to skip through to look for the nuggets of information we came for. This content is full of information I didn't know I didn't know, from beginning to end. This is the best. Thank you for your service 🙏
I went with the JBA arms am have been happy, aligned easily and being able to grease them keeps them quiet, easy to change and easy to get ball joints,,,,
This is great. I have 34x10.5 ko2 on my 4th gen with just a Daystar leveling kit an 1.25 spider trax spacers. With a heat gun and a bit of trimming on the front bumper everything clears no rubbing. I don't think I'll change anything until the Xreas suspension blows. And and maybe not even then. Thanks for the eye opening info. 👍
You have an exceptional wealth of knowledge mate, your explanations are thorough and logical to follow too. Some great information is shared in your videos and they are greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work mate👍🏽
im a tech at a Toyota dealership and own a 3" lifted 4th gen 4runner. i personally run the JBA uca's and have no complaints, i know multiple people who've used SPC and had ball joint failure relatively soon.
were those recent or a few years ago? Their first generation ball joint had some issue. The new greaseable ones seemed better, but I have no personal experience.
@@dustywizard1104 do you need a new UCA for your 2.5” lift 4runner? I have my 2024 4runner installed the Eibach 2.0 pro truck coil over 2.5” front and 1” rear lift and getting 2.8 left caster and 2.4 right caster. The offroad shop recommends me replace the Stock UCA. What do you think ? Thanks
So if I’m understanding correctly, if you lift the vehicle in the front and rear equally (keeping the rake) it is better for alignment than a lift that levels the vehicle?
Amazing channel so glad i just found it. One thing i think is wrong is that you said the upper arm control the anti-dive, but AFAIK it's the lower arm that really controls it, and the angle of the upper arm (relative to the lower arm) controls "dynamic caster".. how the caster changes through the movement of the suspension. as seen in your video, the caster angle lowers as the suspension droops, it can be arrange the other way, so the caster angle increases as the suspension droops, or stays the same if both the arms are completely parallel.
I wish you did this for the f150... Man these company's just throw parts at the truck and expect miracles.. thank you this is such good info for any vehicle
For those with Nissans, a lift higher than 2" will cause the factory upper control arms to contact the coil bucket at full articulation due to the increased suspension travel, which can damage the suspension, not to mention be jarring and make a loud noise. After market UCAs are shaped differently so that they won't make any contact and instead the bump stop will be the limit. Also anyone with SPC UCA's, these need to be greased with a moly grease at every oil change. They also have a wear spring inside of the ball joint which allows for some play...many mechanics mistakenly think that the ball joints are bad because 999/1000 ball joints are not like this.
Great video Kai. I was the lime rush 4runner that went out with you on the 2nd of Oct 2022. You guys might not know it but Kai takes amazing photos as well.
Dude this was great! Thanks for explaining and giving insight. I'm fixing to lift 3 toyota SUV. 02 and 03 4runner and then a 06 lexus gx470! All with 3+ inch lifts.
love your channel, best videos out there. You need to do a video on wheel alignment . before and after lift and bigger tires. there is so much conflicting information out there. like after adding aftermarket UCA's and a lift you dont follow stock alignment specs???, every one has a different opinion and people saying you need a tech who knows about aftermarket uca... Iim getting a headache thinking about it.
Fantastic video, you should have 1M subscribers! Love the way you explain things and integrate video that shows what you are explaining. Looking forward to future videos!
I bought Camburg arms to get caster back in spec from a 2" lift they have a greasable ball joint with aluminum cap covering the zerk the reason i chose them was the ball joint verses that open to the elements of a uniball getting trashed from road salt, rain, snow, wet sand etc
