Today’s Top Tip is about the bulk of your personal statement being about your chosen subject and your academic skills.
This should make up 75% of your statement and will include both your introduction and conclusion.
Here are some things you can write about:
- Why do you want to study your subject and what do you love about it?
- Talk about specific topics/areas of interest within your subject.
- How do your current studies relate to your chosen subject(s), It is good idea to do some research on your on the universities you have chosen, what modules they offer, and how they deliver the course?
- Demonstrate your ability to research
- Evidence of specific ‘super-curricular’ activities - the work you do independently of college that supports your learning. such as wider reading of books/ newspapers/websites, online summer schools/taster courses, online courses podcasts, documentaries, films, or the EPQ.
Remember to be yourself and write in plain English. Read your draft statement aloud and make sure it sounds like you.
Simply your statement should tell the admissions:
- what is you want to do?
- that you have the academic skills and knowledge to do it
- what you might do once you have completed your degree.
