Thank you so much. I am applying for my Ph.D. in anthropology this fall (fingers crossed). Watching Ph.D. students like yourself is like an extended reality from my future self (manifesting it really hard). Hopefully, I will get into the program of my desire. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing more of your content in the future. Take care, Brisa!

I have to catch up on videos! Made it to Washington a couple weeks ago but have been swamped with TA training and class prep. The two sections I am teaching start Monday, as well as my own classes. Looking forward to catching up on any of your videos I missed,

@@BrisaMarie Finished my first week of teaching, and it went well. Sometimes it takes work to get them to turn all assignments in. I hate giving a zero! Classes are tough. I have a discusion group tonight. Seem to run into students all over town. Had one the other day introduce me to her mother.

I know it can feel like a lot and I'm sorry classes are feeling tough. Please let me know if you have any questions or even just need to vent here in the comments!!! We are all here together! Also congrats on TA-in its a very hard gig but seeing how a student introduced you to their parent, I would say that's a great sign!!! And probably means you're doing great! Which is awesome because some people aren't very good educators lol

Hi Brisa, I'm Brazilian and i'm applying for a Master's degree in USA in this year, and to make it possible, financially speaking, I definitely will need to be a TA. However, thinking about it makes me nervous. Firstly, because English is not my first language. Second, how can I make myself/my contribution more interesting to people?! 😅 What advice can you share with me? Thabk you for your content. It is gold!

Tudo bem! Honestly... I would highly suggest that once you get accepted to offer to teach/TA in portuguese language department. Its okay if you never taught the language formally most departments really like native speakers as teachers and though it is not your necessarily your research topic, it usually is really good job security because there is always a need for language instructors because most programs offer a lot of langauge levels (Beginner to advance for example) but I also wouldnt be too worried about being interesting or your english too much. If you are proficient enough to attend school in the US are proficient enough to ta! And the topics of the classes are usually not based on our interests but the needs of the department so that shouldn't be to bad either. I hope this was helpful! Please let me know if you have more questions!

Hey! I noticed you have a secretary desk. Do you prefer it more than the traditional desk layout, and if so, why? I'm trying to determine what desk I want for grad school and I love the aesthetic and slenderness of the secretary desk.

Hi!!!!! Sooo for a really long time, i had absolutely no furniture and one of my grad friends moved and gave me the desk for free. so I didn't pick it out... BUT WITH THAT SAID!!! I LOVE IT! it is very nice and mentally it helps to be able to close the desk when i need/want to disconect. It really helps me to put my work away. It also has a lot of nooks and crannies that i can hide things which i like. The storage and slendeeness is really nice. There isnt MUCH space so if u want to eat or even drink while u work its always dangerous close to your computer and taking notes next to your lap top is also pretty tight. But there are ways to maximize space once you have it. I feel like if you like the look definitely get it. I put a bookshelf next to my desk if i need "extra" storage and it's been really nice. I like it a lot!

@@BrisaMarie thank you so much for responding! I feel like I'll need the storage (I have 6 boxes of books that I need to store) and I like the thought of physically closing the door on my work. Especially in a studio apartment. I'll be doing a PhD in CS, and I still don't want to be reminded of work with a traditional setup. Now I just have to find one! Congrats for reaching candidacy, and good luck with your dissertation process!

How much is the salary as a TA for UCLA?
@BrisaMarie
@BrisaMarie Год назад
Hi! so of course it depends on your university, what is your personal experiences, and what level you are teaching it. So it is hard to give one straight number but I do have a video that shows my salary as a TA and what my experiences and level of pay are at if that interests you here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PGYAKvYiRGI.htmlsi=QxiduDxBbbS4_O0i
