I really like Aubrey's reaction in these two last games though, in ND games, you could kinda see how her confidence just went downhill, esp after seeing that ND defenders weren't even taking her seriously as a threat, but she bounced back! really great to see it
This reminds me of the first Nova game last year. Nova players celebrating a win against an injury depleted UConn team. Hey, when you got the "W" you got the W. But then in the conference championship UConn was almost back to full strength and Nova got crushed. I hope we get another shot at MD.
Indeed. When this team is healthy, and even without Paige and ICE, we will be a great force and I believe we can still get to the Final Four at least! Go Huskies!
this statement is so stupid. any team is gonna be happy getting a big time win. especially over uconn. injury depleted or not, they traveled to Maryland, got on the floor and lost fair and square. but I get it, that excuse makes loss hurt a little less huh?
@@mrmojorisin8752 lol the refs had to save them from princeton and princeton doesn't even take basketball as seriously as uconn. Olivia miles destroyed them and paige wouldn't have stopped her either
@@havolinehavoline4079 If we face ND healthy-without Paige but with Azzi Fudd-we will destroy them. Your comment about Princeton and the refs is comical.🤣
UCONN has more 5*'s on their team than Maryland and Notre Dame combined and despite the injuries UCONN has you still didn't think they would lose to Maryland!
Bettencourt is very green, but shows flashes of potential. Just needs experience to build confidence. I'm not sure what's wrong with Ducharme. She doesn't look like the player she was last year. I hope she finds herself.
Yeah each game I keep hoping to see the Carol that we saw last year but it's like she's not ready or nervous? I don't knowvbut it doesnt seems to be improving that much after each game
Uconn still managed to play despite most of them are bemch players with previously play in couple minutes only and because of this they were looked tired, but the game must go on. You can tell that they do not have enough practice who will be the 2nd baller when Lou had foul trouble. Get well soon to Dorka, Mika & Azzi
This was tough to watch. The offense was stagnant without a creator and direction. They made a late run and nearly pulled it off. They definitely did not quit!
First, I’m proud of how our depleted team competed. BUT-even this depleted team very much could have won. 1) Turnovers. Troubling that our experienced players were most responsible: Ducharme with 6, Griffen with 5. 2) Geno emphasized that our Guards MUST stay on the floor, but here’s Lou committing 3 fouls in a barely more than a quarter, and picking up a fourth quickly in the second half. This really hurt. MD clogged the lane to stop Edwards, but our best three point shooter was often on the bench. 3) MD, a mediocre shooting team, hit too many threes. Lobo blamed late close outs. I think MD just shot better than usual. If a healthy UC plays MD in the tournament, we win by 25. It won’t be a game.
The good thing is the bench is getting valuable playing time! The loses will be avenged in March. Last year they lost more games than the previous 5 years combined! We went to the championship still. This team is much more stacked even without Paige. They can do it if they play smart. To many bone head mistakes with them so far. Wise up, and they have a shot! Go Huskies!
I’m a UConn fan and I’ve been one for years this was a good game at 1st half then 2nd huskies turn the ball over and miss shots they need to fix their game yes they might have injuries but win as a team and lose as a team a hope they get back on track because now where ranked number 9 and if we keep losing well be ranked less than others also they can’t do this stuff against the big teams like sc nc Florida state because if they do they will lose in 1st round but all that being said I hope them for the best I live Aubrey’s game right now Aliyah edwards gotten so much better and I think we can still make it to march madness but I hope we win it all let’s go huskies
One issue is that Lou Lopez-Senechal needs to step up a bit, yes last game she scored well, but overall she is only getting her average and needs to go above and beyond. Caroline Ducharme seems to be playing stiff, is she over that neck injury? Amari doesn't bring anything, she looks lost [ not just this game, but almost every game ]. Edwards was dominant at the beginning, why did UConn stop going to her? Okay, enough nit-picking. I have to admit with all the injuries, Uconn still played well with no Nika. Dorka should be back soon, and Nika should be back next game. I know that Ines Bettencourt is green, but I feel she did good and will only get better. Go UCONN!!!!!!
Why did UC stop going to Edwards? Because MD clogged the lane. How do you punish a team for clogging the lane? By hitting threes. Who is our best three point shooter with Azzi out? Lou. Where was Lou? Sitting on the bench with dumb fouls.
With so many injuries this is a very unfortunate loss. Team was fighting especially Caroline and Aaliyah kept the team going and pushing - alittle bit more luck and they could have won even with this decimated Huskies team. Caroline to me was the most important player as she kept cheering up her team mates and helped a lot with ballhandeling and making herself available all the time for passes, speaking of passes: turnovers especially after good defense where they just threw the ball aways again just killed the team and probably lost them the game. I understand that with Nika they are used to a different pace but they should have really slowed down and be more careful on the ballhandling. Aaliyah was a force in the paint, again, Amari and Ayanna looked good on court, Aubrey did some nice plays but didnt have a big impact as was needed in this game - i expected her to step up some more like Caroline did. Lou did some very dumb fouls which hindered her overall performance A LOT. With Lou on the court the Huskies were way more competitive, with Inês the team was looking handicapped a lot of times. She is still a freshman so you cant blame her for not being at the level of Nika, Paige or Azzi. Less fouls on Lou, more minutes on Lou and with Caroline as ballhandler this would have been a victory. Crossing fingers for faster recoveries! Miss watching that amazing offense and especially defense plays.
@@Dingle051554 Reading and understanding is not your strongest part. I said Caroline was to most important on the field, not the best. That is something different. In the huddle and on the field she was the one talking to her teammates, she was cheering up and pushing; no where the level Nika usually does but besides her noone else did. Was hoping Aaliyah would be more of an leader or especially Lou but she is probably still to new to the team and wouldnt feel comfortable in that role. There is still things you can do that dont show up in the stats but are vital to the team - leadership. And yes you are correct besides that Caroline played not good. Aaliyah was the best player by far, Aubrey also didnt bounce back after the game vs Princeton and only showed glimps of what she really can do, Lou as said handicapped herself early by commiting really stupid fouls, Ines showed some nice plays but she is a freshman she cant be jugde the same way, Ayanna also did some really nice plays and her midrange jumper looks like a serious weapon in the future, she is improving every game.
OK. I'm not sure what I saw but it looked like Maryland grabbed one of the UConn players and fought for space. Then the UConn player punched her in the back of the head. What was the call on that? I'm thinking the puncher should have been sent to the locker room.
I don’t think UConn wins a national championship this season and I feel next year will be their year it’s not gonna be this year. It’s South Carolina this year and maybe UConn next year.
I think they can do it and South Carolina will be upset in the final four. They are not as good as they think! Other teams will be better. We will be better by March!
Turnovers cost us and Lou bein in foul trouble also ima keep sayin this we gotta play through Aaliyah she can’t be stopped I like what yanna did and Caroline has not been playing well we will be ok we have dorka Nika and Azzi all comin back soon we are bringin number 12 this year I can feel it
This was still a relatively close game with UConn playing a really raw freshman at point. Lou seems to be very foul prone but can produce if she can stay on the court. Ducharme looks very tentative, it's almost like loss of confidence moreso than her neck injury. DeBerry be a poser after that block and tie up but she's a fake tough guy. They miss a real bruiser like Nika. I'm starting to think we'll never see the full potential of the Paige years at UConn due to incessant injuries.
Lou is clearly an offensive player mostly. She hadn’t played defense in her four previous years it seems because her fouls are rookie mistakes! She has to work very hard this season to stay out is foul trouble to help the team in March! Go huskies!
19:20 I said this to myself the other day lol. Edward's is a hitman. Taking out all her teammates. Fudd, Muhl, almost Bettencourt here. Investigate where she was the night of Bueckers injury lol. Foul play is afoot.
oh yah... "great" win, Maryland.... you beat Uconn while they had one hand behind their backs.... with several of the TOP players out on injuries.... only one available sub .... this was not a victory to be proud of for sure. The mostly rooky Uconn team played their hearts out and were only 5 pts behind! I'd say: "congratulations on your "win" Maryland, and GREAT fight Uconn!! I'm proud of you girls!! " 💥🐺💥
Ref that made the call didn't have the advantage of replay. From the angle where the ref was standing it looked like the UCONN player, in addition to hitting her own player, also hit the Maryland player - she didn't, but I see how the mistake was made. Its kinda like the foul late in the 4th that fouled out the Maryland player. She was called for fouling DeBerry after a rebound but Deberry lost her balance on her own. The replay showed DeBerry wasn't fouled.
@@waldolydecker8118 tons of examples of terrible calls usually against both sides in almost every game...there needs to be more accountability for terrible refs
@@nstycrv - agree totally...including coaches challenges, which need to be added to the college game as is used in the NBA. Bad calls are always going to happen when humans are involved; coaches challenges will help reverse the most egregious bad calls.
With Lou we were better. Dirty refs even called a foul UConn against a UConn player. Dirty Maryland players playing for fouls and refs helping them. Nonsensical non-basketball. Ines was terrific, but the offense just wasn't flowing at times. Caroline is working hard, but still can't really find her game. Amari and Ayanna and Aaliyah were very good. What happened to Aubrey. She seemed all thumbs. Passing was not so great at times and new lineups with only one ball-handler driving the team makes it difficult. This is just too few players. I liked the effort. Lou was unlucky and had some bad calls. That was the difference.
I will say this as many times as it's needed BENCH DUCHARME PERMANENTLY I cannot understand how Geno still thinks this player is capable of doing something. Sure she did a 2+1 play but THAT'S IT. If Geno wants to win he has to put her on the BENCH
Hard to watch! Geno, your bench needs more minutes on the floor, especially, when winning against poor teams, by 30-40 points… Second loss…im hurting 🥲
