I agree Udemy still have a long way to go before it reaches its potential. The description of being addicted to learning is spot on. I got one course and found myself going back for 5 more.

Add to that the potential for Udemy to increase # of learners around the world (they only have 64M learners, which is the population size of France) and the potential for more new content to be added by instructors around the world. That's all to say -- there's a ton of potential for Udemy to grow both its consumer (to different user segments) and corporate business (SMEs, mid-market and Enterprise). Content is king and in the case of Udemy, they have successfully crossed the chasm and created a vibrant marketplace of instructors and learners.

Hello sir, I joined udemy this August as an instructor, I uploaded 2 courses both got 4.9 ratings till date. Since I'm passionate to teach electronics so I feel that I should consider udemy as full time but I'm little afraid about this decision bcoz udemy has lot of competitors. Today udemy is doing really good but what about next 5-10 years how it would be growing? All this questions are confusing me to take proper decisions could you please suggest whether I should consider udemy as full time or not with some valid reasons.

Hi and congrats! The good thing with Udemy is that you can create courses at your pace outside your main job hours. I wouldn't rush to quit, unless you see a lot of potential, your sales are enough to match your salary, and you can publish many more courses. But concerning the business risks in general, it's the same as with any other business. It's a fluid process and never really stable. As an entrepreneur you need to invest the money you make in more "stable" things because you can never count only on your business income. So diversification will be key to your well being

@@BusinessDisruptors Thanks for replying sir. I can understand about risks and all but I'm not sure about future of udemy. According to you what will be the future of udemy?

So you are telling me, a dropout can create a 15€ course for enterprises to buy for their empoyees, which often need a degree to get a job? Interesting times

No, Udemy only curates their most successful courses from SMEs in their business-facing subscription model (Udemy for Business). It's very difficult to get into their Udemy for Business catalog for Enterprise businesses. The consumer-facing marketplace is open to anybody to create a course (passing the QA requirements), but it is highly competitive since they have over 65,000 instructors teaching there. As background info - I teach on Udemy (since 2015), and have several courses in their Udemy for Business catalog, and have over 100k students take my courses there.
