I am a Fijian and I never knew this person"" udreudre.'' I was never taught of this kind of history. I thankyou of finally doing this video. Helps me to learn more of Fiji''s past history.
Not surprised. I first learnt of it in class 7. The class was shocked. No one talked about it previously. Because The iTaukei are friendly Race. The iTaukei were no longer primitive. They were civilized and became Christians. All Four major Races Indians , Chinese ,iTaukei {native} and Euro. lived separate lives in harmony. So no one talked about it. We were taught the no was 99 not this high. It's impossible for one to reach that high no anyway.
The white men ruled Fiji for 100 years … did Ratu Sukuna study at Oxford university in 1913? The itaukei were already educated, very eloquent, very rich but you don’t learn about these things, because the historians (Kaivalangi) that write the HISTORY, they write it with their own tinted spectacles of what they want to portray. Do you truly and honestly believe that at the peak of racism, the white man in 1913, sent a NEGRO (Ratu Lala Sukuna) to Oxford University to further his education? Do you also truly and honestly believe that Udre Udre was a cannibal? The BIGGEST cannibal in the history of mankind is a kaivalangi. Take a look around the world who is killing women and children is this proxy wars being fought, especially in the Middle East. It is the Kaivalangi (the real cannibals) who is doing all the killing but they blame Muslims. Of course the itaukei were at war with each other (just a little reminder these wars were fought before the introduction of Christianity) all protocols of war were to be followed ie NO WOMEN AND CHILDREN WERE TO BE KILLED!! Now you tell me who is the real cannibal; the Kaivalangi or the itaukei. Take a listen to Madeleine Albright (former Secretary of State). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KP1OAD9jSaI.htmlsi=d9mBzTb8YwFNcmwn ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QRimyfmz0MA.htmlsi=bPQKoDyAqvpJHfl5 They (white man) sent Ratu Lala Sukuna to an island with a few white prostitutes so that he would get infected with diseases from the prostitutes and die, but it back fired on the white man....he never engaged with any of the prostitutes, disappointed, the Kaivalangis brought him back to the main land. All he was muttering while in captivity, he wanted his land back from the colonizers. "Take our land away and we die. That is, the itaukei in us dies” Only Ratu Lala Sukuna understood the feelings of being a prisoner in his own country! "Any Native of any country do not appreciate the notion of land as a commodity, especially not in terms of individual ownership. As a result, native groups would lease their land, but in their minds had only sold the rights to use the lands" Ratu Lala Sukuna is the only kaivichi who stood up to the white man - freedom fighter. The overwhelming resistance by Ratu Lala Sukuna forced the white man in 1935 to open a statutory body - NLTB, to secure the native land for the itaukei but the real owners were the cunning white man who were depleting fiji of all it's wealth until 1970. How do you secure a land that dosen't belong to you? And l quote "the land and the people are one, we chiefs rule both, we own nothing" Old Fijian Proverb: the land belongs to God. For thirty five years the white man stole all the lease payments made to the itaukei landowners under the disguise of NLTB and blamed the itaukei for mis-management of funds. The kaivalangi went to the extent, installing a kaivalangi as a governor and commander-in-chief; totally disrespecting the Chiefly System of Fiji: “In 1875, the Fiji Islands were created a separate Colony, and Sir Arthur Gordon was appointed the first Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Fiji, until 1880” No one to this day understands the true meaning of the terminology ‘ceded’. The white man quickly made up the terminology (ceded) in order to pillage Fiji for one hundred years! White man is worthy to be hated, because of the evil that he does ~ Louis Farakhan ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1hGoJ3WMpY0.htmlsi=3PWEaO4PmEq8NOhS How can the so called cannibals have such a great governance - the chiefly system in place, since the beginning of time, but the kaivalangi (cannibals) had NO governmental system until 1630: “The history of direct democracy amongst non-Native Americans in the United States dates from the 1630s in the New England Colonies”. Who is the real cannibal, the itaukei or the Christian Crusaders who are pillaging country after country till today - fracturing their economy, destroying their political system with Democracy, which the white man himself hasn’t truly accepted. White man preaches democracy and freedom with a sword in one hand and a bible in the other.. A false narrative by the kaivalangi was presented to Ratu Lala Sukuna, that some of the Ba chiefs were trying to get rid of the lndians. The narrative presented by Ratu Lala Sukuna to the kaivalangi in 1935 on the removal of Indians from Fiji - the itaukei and the Indians are one, they are our guests and we do NOT remove our guests (vulangi) by force, but your abuse (Slavery) to the Indians must stop immediately. Let us not ignore the fact that there is another community settled here in our midst. I refer to the Indians. They have become producers on our soil. They have shouldered many burdens (OF COURSE HE WAS REFERRING TO SLAVERY BY THE WHITE MAN) have helped Fiji onward ~ Ratu Lala Sukuna Gaslighting is absolutely part of the functionality of white supremacy, telling the oppressed that what they know is happening is not happening, it is part of the violence. Another false narrative presented by the white man, worldwide, 9/11 is the work of Muslims, which back fired on them as well. Islam is like a balloon, the more air you take out of Islam, the BIGGER it gets. There are many reports that Islam will surpass Christianity by the year 2080. There are many other reports, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world! White supremists are part of the army of anti-christ, anti-christ has many slaves to work for him to destroy humans in every way possible.
Amazing sites Azeem and Thank You for taking us along with you through your Vlogs with the best Guides ever ! 👍🏼. Looking forward to seeing more of ancient Fiji with you. My family and I have been driving past the grave of Udre Udre since the early 1960’s and I have always wondered what it was like in the interiors during his time. Vinaka.
My pleasure, Moira 😊. I'm slowly perfecting my editing skills. I need to work more on my videography. I had a GoPro with me on which I had accidentally left an ND filter so sometimes in the forest canopy with little light the image shook a little. I aim to use my proper camera soon for really good quality images.
@@ThePaleBlueDot Yeah "we" Americans have quite a sense of humor indeed! BTW, I will in Ba in Dec/Jan and am looking for a motorcycle to get around in, tried the Adventure Fiji Bikers, etc and various rental firms, but would like to just buy a used bike and then leave it with my friend when I come back to the US..so if you know one for sale please contact me. Vinaka!!
How formidable would the citadel or stone gate look in it's heydays. The handiwork and effort put in to it and for it to dominate the periphery as you enter or exit. Thank you Mr. Azeem for your awesome video. There have been some videos in regards to Udreudre but this takes the cake. To finally see his domain, is phenomenal. Imagine if they can clean the old village and we have a clearer view, who knows, you might find the location of the lali and the lovo area....thank you so much.
Vinaka, Willy. I haven’t quite finished with the story of Udre Udre. I’m planning to go to the “war village” of Draqara on the north slopes of Nakauvadra where Udre Udre first came from to settle on Korolevu. I’ll be liaising with the mataqali soon. I just want to find out if there is anything there in the shape of old yavus, stone boundaries, etc.
Hey Mr. Azeem, thank you for bringing us Fijian history through your lenses. Through your hard work and perseverance, we can see and learn from the comfort of our homes. Much love and respect from your new subscriber from the Solomon Islands.
Thank you! You and the rest of the family would have loved trekking up that hill, Kate. Incidentally, I got an abusive message from someone this morning who asked what the f**** I was doing delving into the story of his ancestors. I was going to reply to that killjoy that I have a whole community of viewers who absolutely love what I'm doing but then I thought he doesn't deserve the dignity of a reply and I reported it to RU-vid as abusive. Normally that type of message is extremely rare and doesn't get through the RU-vid filter.
Great video too see some of the fijian history Well done Mr khan for making this video it looked like hard work how did they get those big stones down there too build the wall Mike seems like good company too have around when you do this videos he is very funny
Thanks, Raj! According to an article I was reading, the rocks came from a creek three kilometers away. They would have been carried up at great physical exertion. Mike is hilarious!!
Did you have any visits to Levuka, Nasilai where canabilism took place in 1873. They say the Rev Baker was the only European eaten but I’m not so sure.thanks for your enjoyable videos. These should be documentaries on sky tv. My great grandfather built a home in Levuka 1870,s
Hi Roy. Yes, I’m actually planning a visit to Levuka for early December. Not confirmed yet. I have a friend coming from London who would like to accompany me. As for the Reverend Baker. I’ve been reading his diary and I am also planing a visit to Nabutautau village where he was killed and eaten.
According to the short story by Jack London, titled The Whale Tooth Undreundre kept a record of how many people he had eaten with a row of stones outside of his home. There were 872 stones in the row. Later Undreundre was killed and eaten by a chieftain named Naungavuli, who had purportedly only eaten 48 people.
@@ThePaleBlueDot well the story is primarily about a Christian missionary but Undreundre is mentioned in the beginning. It’s a quick read, about 6 pages, highly recommended.
Great video Azeem, Not much I can comment, coming from north part of Fiji, very little I know about Udre Udre. Only heard little from Rohit's brain. Hope you are well and don't worry about some silly people. This people don't have much good to do, they life is full of negative and they impose their negativeness on others. Take care
@@ThePaleBlueDot your accent and pronunciation of Fijian is impressive. I’m looking at you wondering -actually quite sure-it’s local But then again 🤣. Whichever it is -as the wife of an Itaukei (Naitisiri) I’m very impressed. My husband found you and as I love Fijian history and study it closely-he said watch this!!! I’m away for a week now but will be back in Viti shortly. Keep up your amazing work. Gosh that hike would have been tough. We never knew about this!!!!! 🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯
@@tinaikana679 Thank you! That hike is just one of many we’ve done in the last year or two. We’re actually planning a hike along the most important ridge of Nakauvadra, hopefully in over a year’s time. There’s so much ancient Fijian history that needs to be explored and understood. Thank you for your support and as they say: stay tuned! 😃🙌🏽🙏🏽👌🏽👍🏽🫶🏽🇫🇯
@@ThePaleBlueDot Ps check your blood pressure and all before you do this hike. I got caught out with BP 205/196. Something like that. Be fully prepared! Take care my friend. I look forward to more posts! Moce mada!!! 🇫🇯🇫🇯🇫🇯
It fable that about this the powerful chief Lutunasobasoba and his people followed the trade cross the Indian Ocean trevilling south east Asia settled Fiji Island pacific
That true cuz " Viti " in Africa refers to warrior tribe of cannibal that dominated parts of Tanzania ancient times % lived along the fijian Rufiji river. Some of their descendants still today called fiji people
Hullo Azeem! Dalo-ni-Tana ...Dalo-from-Tana I wonder if that's true..Tana is an island in Vanuatu. People from there were the first Indentured labours before Girmit. Wonder if they brought these with them?
Udreudre had only a son Pita Nawaqalevu who had only two daughters Asenaca Kulanawa and Vasemaca Rakavosa. The Udreudre line is extinct. My great grandmother who died in 1975 was a great granddaughter of Udreudre. None of Udreudre's descendants lived in Rakiraki village after the demise of Nawaqalevu in the 1870s. Not so sure Udreudre ever lived on Malake island because it was home of the fisherfolk who owed fealty to another Rakiraki chief.
13:00 Couldn't you drive to the village ?? It's keeping you fit. Anyway. 58:19 Mangoes start flowering and sprouting in July August. By nov. Dec they ripen.

Those hikes can be very exhausting! 😃😃 Yes, there are at least two men in the nearby village of Vatusekiyasawa Village who claim to be descended from him.
Mate the figures gone up sooo! high...it was Nearly 100 when I was a kid!? Much told to us was his Defiance of the Law and White man's religion to Stop!!

Prayers and thoughts from the BODY of JESUS CHRIST around the world. Keep safe for we are Sojourners in this world. Ephesians chapter 6 dearly beloveds around the world. 🙌🙏🙌🙏🙌🙏🕊️
@@ThePaleBlueDot Yes I am.. As an Highlander of Navosa.. My ancestors went through the same. Tortured and hanged when standing up to the colonizers! They labelled us as cannibals. It's similar to what's happening in Palestine today, they colonize them and when they fight back.. They are labelled as terrorists by the evil Zionists.
The Grave was visible from the main road. Now with climate change and lots of rain i'm sure it's covered with bush Stones about the size of large pumbkins and water melon were placed around the grave. We were taught in school that he ate 99 . Never heard 872 to 999. I'm pretty sure 99 is correct number. Undre undre was a village chief. So when someone died he'd get the first chance to the Fire BBQ. {smile} Undre means Giant in the Spanish Language. He was a big man. I'm not sure but i believe for some linguistic reason regarding iTaukei { native}Language he was called Undre undre. There are other Native words that are repeated. Eg. Kam kam kamica. Toko toko. Kum kum. Daku Daku and so on. { c is pro. Dh.] D with a very low h. Guys you are probably wondering how come he ate so many.? Whoever died how so ever was eaten. Some very old ,sick and dying were killed and eaten. Undre undre was A Buli {Chief} so he got the first plate. There's a pic of him online.
It was visible from the main rd. Going to Suva it's on the right a bit up hill. Stones about the size of Soccer balls were around the grave. With climate change I'm sure it's covered in bush.
Honourable brave chap, to able to not just prey on other lesser intelligent species such as the KFC chicken, meat pie etc, but to decide that its unfair to continuously consume these and instead take the initiative as tribal leader and say I'll consume my own species vigorously on other specie's behalf. A round of applause for him, probably at a high place in heaven or in the karmic cycle? Great watching these videos. Cheers.
lol.. enjoyed the video of the Rewa Bridge and Nausori township, broke my leg on the swing at during the Dilkusha Orphanage Christmas Party, looking down over the old Rewa River bridge. Thanks for the brilliant videos, brought back treasured memories.
Id like to know how in the world does the world Guinness book of records record such impressive data?? Was one of the employees that worked at that company one sight during the time he was having a feast? I mean who was counting at the time?? 😂 are you going off of the number of skulls collected? Did somebody interview him at the time and asked him how many people did he eat ???😂 i mean come on. As cool as this video may sound, it does seem a little exaggerated when talking about that many people eaten. I don’t think anybody knows the real number.
AmaniYA , eda sa vukica tiko na lasu me dina kei na dina me lasu . Sa rauta Mada na mataboko tiko Yadra mai VitiYA sa rauta na bobula tiko AleleuYAH AmaniYA
That's only udreudre not every Fijian. You should discover and gather information from every part of fiji especially the Colo part of Fiji ....we have different history the interior part and the coastal part of Viti Levu..... Europeans were writing the stories..made up stories....did udreudre really eat those number of people????did you see it??or from what was written????
@Seta Waisavu Vinaka. I've read some info on the Rakiraki Wars. As you correctly say, there's very little to go, just the odd bit of info here and there but nothing substantial.
