I dunno if “simple” is the right word for Udyr. The fact that he can benefit from almost any item makes his build diversity wild.

This is why I love Udyr. You can fully adapt your build to fit the game your in, because he can fill the AD, AP, or tank role depending on what your team needs. He is simple to learn, as in no crazy combos. But his complexity comes in his versatility and how much that rewards game knowledge.

Don’t think of “simple” as a negative, having a simple kit is a good thing bc more people can use him! And like you said he is insanely versatile which is great for newer players bc they can try everything in him

@@Goldenfire49 iron boar, may or may not become a champion but I know it's somewhat related to Sejuani's mount, Bristle( if I remember correctly). Spirit guard udyr is in the alt universe that udyr does not return to Freljord and stay in Ionia so he uses his old aspect.

@@kultrasentertainment945 Not alternate universe, Spirit Guard Udyr is past Udyr, when he returned to the Freljord after training in Ionia, then he rejoins the Winter's Claw, Silence for the Damned happens and to escape The Volibear's almost mind-control, he re-attunes to the Freljord and we got post-rework Udyr

Good rework in my opinion. He finally feels like he can do things other than slap people and run away. Now you can slap, kill, and run away. Nah but seriously, it keeps to the good rework philosophy. - updated visual - keeps to original gameplay design while updating to it to modern league standards - lore is updated to be pretty cool And that’s it, it’s a good rework

It's a bad rework because the one thing that made Udyr's identity, the one thing riot said they wanted to keep, is gone. STANCES. Udyr spells had a lingering effect, every 3 autos you get a proc of the effect. That's a stance. Tiger gave an AD scaling DamageOverTime effect, Turtle gave you %health healing, and phoenix gave you a cone of flame. Having those stance allowed udyr the little micro he had, it's decisions on decisions, every second you play. And it makes buying attack speed inherently good, always. Now Udyr has two autos. It's a Sett Q, except riot is keeping the VFX turned on after the two auto XD Buying attack speed is now basically trolling since GCD is 2 secs.... Decisions are gone, you don't get to stay in a stance, there's no stances, you don't keep passiv up or risk losing it either: you just roll face. The champ's movement speed is gone, old passive gave a constant 15ms, and old bear stance gave fixed MS for a given duration. Old passive is gone and now E give decreasing MS, you lose 90% of the MS over 1.5 secs.... So the speed is gone, it was traded for more damage but especially more tankiness which.... has proven aids to the point of being nerfed three times on PBE already. Udyr was famous for being flexible with his builds. The subpar new Q, and the lack of an AD scaling on the awakened Q means ad build are dead once; and dead a second time, cause remember, AS is wasted gold now.....

it's thematically cool, but also kinda lazy feeling. not to mention the part where monkey's agility just gave him stats he desperately needed, movespeed and attack speed. he still gets the attack speed, but the lost ms hurts

Wukong´s Q cooldown is reduced when he attacks, similarly to Master Yi´s Q too, both being Master and pupil is a great detail.

5:10 I don't agree that much. We all complain about champions with walls of text as abilities, which would end up happening if abilities had combined effects, and also Aphelios (another combination type) is a pretty complex champion, while Udyr has always been a simple character to play. It's good that they kept it easy for us, who don't want to deal with such thing, and for new players.

Not really old udyr had some depth though a little outdated and different build potentials. Now he is stuck doing the same four moves in the order he's started. It's like the illusion of choice.

Besides stances should always be one dimensional. I don't agree with combining stances, that doesn't sound like stances at all but reaction much like Genshin Impact elemental reaction. And if you look at it that way that sounds more like a mage and not a bruiser.

An interesting thing you might have missed is that when Udyr's passive is off cooldown, you can recast ANY stance when entering a stance. So you can use Q and right after empowered W, or R if you wish. It's not as close as the avatar state but it's something at least

Also changing stances once you awaken one doesn't just stop the awakened effect, so you can awaken Wingborne Storm and immediately switch to another stance for more DPS or to heal/shield while your storm chases the enemy champs, for example.

I like how they added the theme to udyr's abylities Q is an active version of Voli's passive (attack speed extra damage that bounces between enemies) E is effectively a combination of Ornn's W and E (the speed boost to replicate ornn's E and the cc immunity into cc is like ornn's W) R is literally just Anivia R with added controll I can't wait to see the god that his W is based off of, tho.

a fun fact I found when I tried builds on Udyr is that buying all the recommended bruiser items will result in Udyr's Awakened Q on a single target with 550 Resistances and 6k HP (Somewhere in the ballpark of a full build Ornn) can do well over 2.5k burst damage every 8-12 seconds.

I woulnd t call 8-12 sec "burst dmg". Also, Orn can cc Udyr for 3 sec during this lapse, thus de facto doing less than 2.5 dmg.

2:43 I disagree. It does the opposite in fact. The only time you're incentivize to use the same stances is if you have the awakened passive. If you don't you very much need to change stances so you can shorten it's CD. That and because the stances only works after 2 autos and completely loses it's passive effects after activation except for the Ram stance.

pretty sure you are incentiviced to spam different stances MORE now for the 2 boosted attacks + cooldown. if anything you were slightly more incentivized before to stay same stance cuz it would take 3 hits to retrigger an effect

The empowered stance mechanic is really cool and my favorite part of his new kit by far. I love champions who have proper decision making in their kits instead of following a flow chart combo every single fight

I like how he has to awaken Blazing Stampede to get the cc immunity since he then won't be able to awaken damage or shield. That feels like a fair trade-off for a brief cc immunity on a champ who desperately needs it.

I think my only complaint is that this ended up being more of a visual update with a minor gamplay tweak like Swain or Taliyah got recently. It wasn't what we've come to expect from VGU style gameplay swapouts. He is essentially the same champion, just with slight tweaks to the abilities and a new passive. Even then, not sure this is a complaint against Udyr as I wasn't sure he needed a full VGU, just tweaks. More just that this wasn't anywhere near the sweeping changes I was looking forward to. As Vars said, VGUs are normally new champions, and this fell short of that.

@@aaronparry2636 Just an idea of how that could work Volibear Stance: - passive: extra attack speed - active: short range cone that claws all enemies in front of him Boar Stance: - passive: omnivamp - active: shield Ram Stance: - passive: increased movement speed - active: Udyr dashes forward, and his next auto attack stuns its target Cryophoenix Stance: - passive: attacks have cleave damage - active: AoE damage aura for an amount of time Ultimate: large AoE cone in front of Udyr that damages enemies and has a secondary effect based on stance (damage over time applied for Bear, Udyr gains armor and magic resist for Boar, everyone slowed for Ram, and a larger cone for Phoenix)

@@aaronparry2636 Yeah, we all saw how wildly successful that approach was on Aphelios... not. He ended up being a champion with such an insanely high skillfloor that he's only usable at masters+ (contrary to popular belief I do not believe Aphelios' kit is overloaded, just stupidly complex and on launch insanely overtuned).

im kind of confused what part of his rework youre referring to when you mention that he would now be able to focus more on once stance/ stick to one stance more than before. All the empower effects he gets from his stances either last 4 seconds or 2 autos, im assuming that switching stance before attacking twice would mean that you overwrite the 2 auto empowerment from the other stance and the 4 second duration effects dont disappear when you change stances so udyr has 0 permanent stance based effects now. Literally none. Its all based around autoing twice and then switching. In my opinion udyr now benefits more from stance switching than he ever has because it used to be that youd wanna maximize time spent in whatever stance you have maxed and then get back to it asap, because it offered permanent benefits but now you'll have utilized each stance to its maximum after just 2 autos which allows you to freely pick and choose stances inbetween a 2 auto rythm whereas previously youd try to get as many tiger procs as possible with ad udyr or as many phoenix procs as possible with fulltank and ap udyr. Granted you'll prolly still switch to phoenix/tiger on CD regardless since youll have those maxd but theres a lot more leeway for stance switching now. Atleast this is my understanding of it as an avid udyr enjoyer. Just to be clear ive only read his abilities and watched some gamplay so there might be some misunderstandings here.

Only E has a permanent effect now, and losing out on the passive makes Udyr feel super sluggish. Gaining situational cc immunity by losing a lot of mobility is shit in my opinion as an avid Udyr enjoyer

@@mikeesteves8427 Yeah, they doubled the duration and made it decaying. Though the movement speed is less at max rank, not with empowered E though, only then is he faster than current Udyr, even then it's not a lot faster

having played a bit of it by now, it's definitely not encouraged to stick to one stance. all you want is the 2 autos and swap, the shield stays, the damage aura stays, the bear movespeed stays. its very much a case of stance swapping as much as you can. which annoys me, because the reason it works on lee sin is because he gets his resource back from proccing passive, whereas udyr just spends the mana to get back about 3 seconds of passive cd, which is 50 seconds. it's very impractical for top and while it works decently, i just can't feel the strength it should have in the jungle. even when i'm far ahead, i still can't seem to reach the enemy team without literally imploding. somehow the tank build doesn't feel like it does damage, or is tanky, or has the movespeed that it used to. the tiger stance build feels good, but again, not especially lane viable since you have to spend your mana in droves to get use out of it unlike the old where you could walk up with the tiger stance stacked, and auto q auto for an actually dangerous trade. now you can only do that kind of trade ever 30-40 seconds assuming you are allowed to even touch the wave to use passive (which also costs a fair bit of mana)

I'm very excited about the new Udyr. I think keeping him simple by today's standard of modern was a great choice and I'm also really hoping that his strengths don't go so far as to rival modern champs. Somewhere in the power level of Garen is what I think the devs will push for if he gets out of hand. On a side note, would you ever consider doing a discussion video about your own proposed changes to a champion? One champ I've always found interesting but never truly wanted to play was Rell. Not to long ago you made a Why No One Plays about her, and even more recently the devs talked about reworking her a bit. I believe you've mentioned being a top laner in the past, but I've always thought that Rell could have gone the way of Tahm Kench in essence, as a champ who could be played support or as a niche pick top. Maybe this is more of a discussion on champion viability across roles and how Riot has tried to skew champs to where they envision them played vs what the playerbase tries to achieve with them. The mid-scope update were one point recently where it seemed like Riot was interested in giving champs like Olaf and Taliyah these small updates that left them with role diversity but ended up changing their main role and not really bolstering their old role. Olaf did get a recent set of changes to make his top play not so overbearing while giving in a bit of relief in jg, but it seems like Taliyah has just remained a scaling mid laner and her lack of early strength hinders her jg viability.

the polymerization idea, while great in theory, makes little sense when it comes to the lore and I feel like that's what the focus of the rework was on since his previous stances had literally nothing to do with freljord this rework is very Fiddlesticks- and Pantheon-esque in their changes by keeping the base and adding more depth to the kit

It's nice to have champions work with their lore, but a really good gameplay idea should take precedence. I mean...what kind of sense does Aphelios being able to shoot two guns at once, when one of them can be a cannon or a flame-thrower that he has strapped on his back, make? Speaking of Aphelios...his weapon switching mechanic could have been a good inspiration for this. Obviously without all the bells and whistles of the different interactions, just with the primary-secondary idea. The gist would be that these abilities should all have a much reduced persistent effect that is activated when the ability is changed, because now it becomes the secondary ability. For his Q it could be a lesser attack speed bonus than the one he gets for 4 seconds after activation, for his W it would be a halved life-steal effect, for his E it would be just that decayed movement speed bonus (not the stunning auto-attacks) and for his R, persistent slowing auto-attacks that do a little bit of the magic damage on-hit that those first two attacks do on activation. And to balance this all out with his empowered abilities, when you reactivate the primary stance, the secondary stance's effect completely disappears. This might be a little OP, though and would make him an even bigegr stat checker, so i don;t know if we'd really want this, but...I see no other way to impplement what Vars is talking about, not without getting rid of his empowered ability passive, anyway. This might be a case of not being able to have your cake and eat it too.

@@madsgrams2069 They already take gameplay a bit over lore, in the lore Annie can't control her fire, Karthus only guides souls he doesn't have any of his in game abilities, those are two examples but I know there are more becouse Seraphine also cannot use any of her abilities in the lore

He has busted numbers (but I guess that's not a problem, since numbers can be adjusted) and his abilities do mesh together a hell of a lot better, but I feel like they didn't address his main issue: no actual gap-closer beyond running really fast...and he seems to run slower than before. And that mini-dash on his E is still joke in terms of range... Almost all juggernauts or divers that don't have any kind of dash, like Darius or Sett, still have a pull enemies closer move or a powerful displacement/slow ability, that can be used from a decent range (like Olaf or Trundle). And even these guys struggle with having not the best sticking potential... Udyr has hard CC, but only after he's actually reached the target...by running at it, not exactly a model of efficiency, if you ask me. It can hardly be compared to kits like Xin Zhao's or Jarvan IV's, with their long range dashes and but-loads of CC. This is the reason Garen is so dreadfully predictable and kitable and why he can be so inconsistent at times. I suppose the extra-speed and crowd control immunity on his empowered E partially solve this problem, but...I fear it's so ncessary to his quality of life, that...it'll basically have to be the ONLY ability that you use this way throughout the match... That's not healthy design, if you ask me, as his entire new philosophy of play should be picking the right empowered ability for the given situation. I see almost no scenario where the empowered Q or W can be more useful than the E. As for the empowered R, I suppose it can be a pretty powerful team-fight initiation tool or some light harassment in the neutral game, if you take him top lane, but that's about it.

My only problem with Newdyr is the fact that he just gets two slaps after changing stances. I know he gets the Awakened forms, but I will miss the "installs" he got while he was holding a stance, like Tiger Stance DoTs or Phoenix Stance firey cone.

I think what he is trying to do actually makes sense now and the rework is visually and from the slight ability overhaul pretty good. He got with the four stances a better connection in the lore now, which also is pretty neat. He has gotten more than 3 polygons too and doesn't look like a piece of rock anymore (personal opinion). Although I'm unsure if thats what he needed, it sounds like Riot went in the right direction. (Still hate that he only can spend 18/20 points, would've appreciated if they just had given them to you when you hit level 18)

It’s 18/24. 16/17/18 can be used to put a 6th point into a stance. So, you could completely drop one stance and max 3, 1 maxed, others at 4, have 2 maxed 1 at 5 1 at one, etc. lots of decisions with him

it's funny how his stances are stronger versions of the gods those represent volibear have to attack few times before he gets chain lightning on attacks oorn have to collide with wall with his charge for cc anivia ult stays in place and need few sec before it's fully charged and iron boar defense does nothings since hes not in the game

2:49 After trying out new udyr, I'd actually say it's still incentivized for him to still switch stances, if not more than original Udyr. His stances no longer give a bonus effect for every 3rd auto attack but instead for the first two meaning, aside from the new bear stance, you won't gain any additional buffs if you remain in that stance. Additionally, the first 2 auto attacks in a different stance refunds 5% of the cool down of awakening each so you want to swap between stances as often as possible to reduce that cool down. Speaking of Awakening, Udyr doesn't get Awakening just for the stance he is currently in, it's very simple to just switch the the stance you want the awakening to be used for. Simply staying in 1 stance till awakening comes up kinda destroys his offensive pressure.

I think there were a million ways Riot could've messed up this rework. So seeing that it is an overall improvement on the champion while keeping his identity and raising his skill expression I see it as the best we could have hoped for from the current Riot games.

I'm mastery 7 udyr and I love this more than the previous one , he's now more versatile , if you only play one build you won't like him , but with his kit now you can build against the enemy team and still play well , no longer stuck with playing mostly ap build to be effective , his turtle stance is now op , not the crap of before... Don't get me wrong , I love the previous udyr especially in early game , but e falls off in late game Especially in rank ,if you dont bag the win by 16 , e starts becoming bad . That my opinion anyway

So....resident salty Anivia player here....I get they took the vision off her wall to remove utility and add damage to her e in return, but like....why does Udyr's channeling of Anivia's spirit grant vision but not Anivia channeling her own power.....seeing as Anivia literally watches over the Freljord through the ice and all, kinda upsetting that they don't at least grant her ult vision or something since she's literally controlling the storm and all...and now they give it to Udyr T.T

He still doesn't have a proper gap-closer. I feel like Udyr was always more of a diver than a juggernaut and divers should have good gap-closers. Also, Sett and Darius are juggernauts and they can still, at least, pull people towards them. His biggest problem is just like Garen's biggest problem: they can't jump on people's heads. Shyvana gets away with this cause she has very good movement speed that lasts a decent amount of time on her Burnout and also has her pretty spammable ultimate, which is a very good initation tool. I mean...what would Xin Zhao or Jarvan IV be without their powerful dashes? Making him run slower might be pretty bad, even with the busted numbers.

I really feel like Udyr's rework fundementally fails at everything. -Failed to deliver on his fantasy as a stance based shaman -Failed to update his abilities in a way that better suits modern league -Turned him exclusively into ap bruizer -Failed to keep old Udyr's playstyle intact It just failed to improve him in any meaningful way while actually taking away anything that was good about him before.

What drugs are you on? New Udyr is literally old Udyr with a brief CC immunity, a slow (so he can actually function in modern Leagues' ecosystem) and some added skill expression in the form of empowered abilities. It's a very faithful rework that for as far as I can assess at this point will successfully bring him up to modern standards both gameplay- and aesthetics- wise, much like Volibear. As for him becoming a pure AP bruiser, I don't think so. Awakened Wilding Claw is too situational to build AP for because if there's more than one target nearby the lightning is going to bounce to them. Better to build AD bruiser and take full advantage of the AS steroid and %max HP physical damage on the base version of the ability (not sure if Q-AA-AA-awakened Q-AA-AA is going to proc that 4 times instead of 2). Although AP bruiser will be more versatile in it's damage application, you can use empowered R for multi-target situations and empowered Q should you catch someone all alone. Although you will regularly be forced to use empowered E to get to someone in the first place.

Also you're REALLY mental if you think anyone is gonna be using Awakened Q with it's lack of ad scaling and how AS is now a waste of a stat. You clearly have not even played new Udyr on PBE if you think anyone is using anything other than pheonix or didn't pay attention to the gameplay shown in the video. He still has the same issues that the old one does, trouble getting in range and easy to kite unless caught off guard or stunned by someone else, but now he doesn't scale from movespeed as well and his E gives DECAYING MOVESPEED, LIKE WHY? On top of all that, he no longer has the diversity where he can build any stat and basically any item and be able to make use out of it. This is about as good as Skarner's rework was.

The passive facinates me, cause when you think about it, its kind of a "ultimate passive", very similar to Karma's ultimate. As in riot decided that they needed to make up for the fact that Udyr had a 4th BASIC ability instead of a big red button to push. Yeah theres champs like Jayce, Nidalee and Elise, but they get an near entirely seperate champion stapled to the original with THREE whole new abilities to use, I think thats worth an ultimate (besides, considering how all three of those have been nightmares to balance, they arent the best choice to try and copy either). So now we have Udyr with a short cd "ultimate", to use in fights, possibly TWO in a fight if its prolonged enough. But thats still gonna have to make up for udyr basically not having a true passive anymore, having lost stance of the monkey and his overall movement speed/tempo. Its gonna be interesting to see how they try to balance udyr, will they try to make his passsive the end all, be all of his power with middling basic abilities, or will they buff up his basic abilities and make his passive more of a little extra instead of treating it as some kind of ultimate.

Yes the rework still makes him look and play like old Udyr, but I am worried that's too similar. You said so yourself in the Mundo rework that polished up Mundo is the same and has the same problems. What Udyr does is glorified bonking, yes he might be stronger and shinier but it still run at you and bonk but now with HD abilities and effects. Yes a rework like Aatrox is far too different, but I dunno this VGU looks like it's too similar... Plus he runs funny. But I love the implementation of lore with the Freljlord gods.

No, the new Udyr plays rather differently from old Udyr, much more swapping between stances since you pretty much only get an effect on two autos, much less mobility since losing monke speed though situational cc immunity was given to compensate, lack of permanent effects also make the neutral game feel like shit when compared to old Udyr that at least has a permanent mechanic on every stance and not just E. All in all the rework will be less of Agile Splitpushing Man running circles around your base and more just a juggernaut with the same weaknesses as old Udyr

Get turtle to shield, swap to bear to run and stun, swap to tiger, swap to bear when stun cd is up, or tutrle first. He'll be less obnoxious with his loss of movespeed for sure, but still the same no-skill shot, all buffs kind of character. I wait to see the end result.

@@Abandon-art After playing the reworked Udyr I can somewhat conclusively say that Stance Swapping is much more frequent although much more varied than Old Udyr. The mobility loss wasn't as big as I first thought though and the slow from R makes it none-noticeable

I dont play Udyr but the fun part of watching a good udyr player (trick2g basically) is watching them run around, breaking ankles left and right. Since he's not that fast anymore it seems like its going to be less entertaining to watch

The "Polymerization" approach will eventually cause a lot of confusion for the player and time for the dev, while yes, it is a very VERY cool concept, Udyr will turn into "Alphelios 2.0" if that's ever gonna happen But i mean people understand Alphelios well enough to main him, maybe i am just a very straight-forward player and like to smash people with one combo ,or to put it simply, i am freaking dumb

I think they stuck too hard to the original design. If I was in charge I would do something like this: Pressing Q would switch between let’s say Ram (bear) and Boar (turtle) and pressing E would switch between Bear (tiger) and phoenix. This means that he has tow stances active at ones and can mix match more, it also leaves 2 abilities (plus passive) to do more interesting things with and there would also be a skill element in knowing how to set up the optimal stance combo for incoming fights. I guess what we got is still good, but in my opinion you can’t go wrong with a freljorian shaman fighter

I would've liked if they made a system to "link" stances together. As in using tiger stance after phoenix will have an additional effect, that would be different from using tiger stance after the bear stance

While a lot of people seem to like the rework I think he has the exact same issues with just a fresh coat of paint. He's still all stat checks with no actual skillshots or anything, he's the same "run at person and hit them till they die" champion that plague alot of the early designs. He should've had something where his abilities have an actual activation effect and then the stance, like bear be a lunge that stuns that then gives movespeed instead of just a run up and stun people, which now has the upgraded effect of just negating the cc counterplay

Like jfc when reading his new abilities i was so disappointed since everything was practically the exact same thing, q is more damage on faster autos, w is shield and heal, e is movespeed and stun on auto, r got improved to be more unique but the rest all gives the exact same thing as current udyr. He's going to bring the exact same to the table and suffer the same issues, some even worse. Since before it was annoying to have an udyr charge at you super fast and just auto to death with no counterplay besides cc, now he can just negate cc while charging. The biggest issue with udyr was he was an auto stat checker and thats all been kept the exact same. Just because he has stances doesn't mean he shouldnt have actual abilities beyond run and auto

9:45 that's not true or at least that's not entirely correct. If anything old Udyr encouraged always holding stances because by stacking autos up to 3 would give you the effect if most of the effect again at no cost. You have no reason to stay in any of your stances as new Udyr as after the ability ends, you'll want to switch to another ability to reduce the cooldown of passive or just for a new ability in general. Old Udyr you'd activate a stance in base so what you'll be at 3 automatically and have your ability off cooldown when you get to your jungle camp, allowing for you to proc the ability twice in succession. Old Udyr was incentivized around autos in order to stack up his passive faster as opposed to his rework turning him into an ability caster.

I watched a zwag pbe of a lethality udyr. One downside of the current abilities is that he loses damage on the empowered recast of q, as it's all ap ratio and magic damage if you're building ad and lethality.

my only issue on the new udyr is that the empowered Q shouldn't have an arc bounce when there's nearby enemies, it should only be a single target burst every time

It would be too reliable then. Having it bounce to other targets when they are present allows Riot to really tune up the isolated damage (much like Kha'Zix Q) to punish enemies for mispositioning.

Udyr is THE stat checker. I love him for his simplicity. He might be split and not always at full efficiency but that what made him so cool. You could build a variety of ways and have him function relatively well. Lethality for assasin udyr. On hit and attack speed for splitpush/fighter udyr. Tank for teamfighting and utility. Ap for magic burst with pheonix stance. All of them function well

Only 1 thing worries me, I hope they made it so CDR lowers the cooldown between stance swaps too or attack speed might feel bad to build with the new stance swap being all 1-2 combos. Old stances you could auto 4 times in a row before swapping to get double 3 hit procs on each stance. Another thing I would have liked is for them to allow you to keep up to 2 stacks of Awakening, allowing you to mix 2 empowered stances together or even double down depending on the situation. I think it would have added some extra depth to his new passive without making it too complex and also fits well into the flexibility Udyr has always had.

The Yugioh example is a great one actually, you see. vwxyz-dragon catapult cannon is a terrible card because of how much it costs to bring it out, but in the case you could bring it for free/cheaply once or multiple times in a turn, it's giga-broken(its "reworked" version, abc dragon buster, is to this day playable and kinda good if not meta relevant, 6 years after its release). My point is that if you start giving Udyr free shit just from leveling up, he would then surely become a balance nightmare. Having the player allocate where his power budget will be limits him well enough while keeping him versatile.

my first contact with this guy was playing Samira. I was more fed than this guy and did the fast ult combo on him, but I didn't even have time to ult, because Udyr killed me in 2 auto attacks with q. Meanwhile my combo was tickling him in comparison

Idk as an udyr main I wish his Q was more AD based. Currently I can go AP brusier and still do alot of dmg with q activation. To me it feels like riot is catering more to that style of play since it became the popular way to play udyr due to his lack of late game scaling. But we will see on the live servers, also some of his animations are still cluncky. I hope riot fixes that before his release. But my ideal reqork would take the fighter approach and give his stances combinations. E+R gives pheonix dive, E+Q gives his a pouncing leap. E+W gives him enhaced survivability. Q+R gives him a skill shot hadouken or something. W+Q gives him life-steal, W+R grants a slow or something. Just an idea.

I think that this Udyr is destined to be a balancing nightmare no matter what. I mean what item can he not use and what can an opponent do to stop him from doing his damage, healing, stunning, and ignoring cc. He will always be able to use the Meta Items and with no way to stop him from playing the game his way i think it will always come down to "Does he have enough damage to kill you" Which is a simple answer of yes. It doesnt matter how you build since he does max health damage, It doesnt matter how defensive you build since he does both damage types, and theres no way to kite him since he can just say no with the empowered ability.

I also thought of a more combining abilities approach as you mentioned and also giving him more traditional abilities with lasting stances But I also like the idea of being stuck to one stance to get it empowered My idea would be to combine the two concepts a bit, like, each stance has a basic kind of attribute that it can give other abilities when casted in said stance, like Bear/Ram can give all other abilities a singular short stun on hit or something. And then if you choose to keep a stance until it awakens, it basically is the same ability but on steroids, a way bigger increase in power than if empowered by another stance~

I wish Udyr still had permanent bonuses in each stance. As it is right now, there's no benefit to remaining in a stance, which kind of removes the whole idea of 'stances' to me. If a stance only matters for the first few seconds you 'enter' a stance, it's just another ability, not a sustained method of fighting which is what 'stance' implies to me. Claw stance is the same as no stance unless you just 'entered' it. That feels like dissonant design to me. Largely the rework looks and feels good though.

I think the opposite than you, before rework the only way to do damage was staing in your main stance (Q or R) Now once you activted your stance and auto twice you're free to use other 2 stances before having acces to benefits from your mains stance again (If you're playing phoenix and use the storm and the 2 autos you can now change to W or E without losing damage) And the awaken is really good, you can now stay face to face wth champ that have ultimate

I like that they changed his backstory to better fit into the LoL lore. Instead of each stance being an analogue to generic animal, each one is instead, related to a Freljordian god. Like, he channels an aspect of them. His Q is volibear His E is Ornn & his R is Anivia Finally, his w is to this iron boar character that hasn't been introduced yet, but most likely will be some time.
