Exploring an 1860's mansion in Kentucky. The location is under renovation and construction crews frequent the site. *Edit: renovations have been completed
I used to live in the city in which this house is located. I remember driving by it many times, wondering what it looked like inside. I so glad to learn that it is being rejuvenated!!
How beautiful little castle from the outside. The "for Sale" Holland Homes sign in one of the rooms and all the file cabinets and papers around, tell me this place was a realtors' office for awhile. It does look like an office building from the inside.
Everyone should love and appreciate this amazing century old mansion. And it must be renovated or protected by the government as part of their history. The unique designed is of really different from the modern concept .Hope this mansion can be preserved for a thousand years.
A neat place, glad to see that they are fixing it up instead of tearing it down. Would love to find old places like this that have been abandoned. Near where I live if you just take pictures of these old places, someone will call the cops on you. Happened to me while photographing the old Portland Coal and Gas Company building up on the Columbia River out of Portland. A security guard came charging up yelling that I could not take pictures there and threatened to call the cops on me. I told him to go ahead, got into my car and drove off. Wish I could explore like this still. Thanks for the video.
the foundation of course held great because it wasnt that exposed to the outside but it has to be gutted completely of its wooden interior. the wainscoting seems in great condition but the newel and the posts are gone and the walls are in very bad shape. its also unfortunate that all the mantels are missing too.
I'm so glad to read this is being renovated. Absolutely beautiful mansion. I'm so glad to see you have enough common sense not to try the "oh fuck" floor lol. I wish I could find someone to go with me. My hubbie isn't interested. lol. Good video guys.
Your fortunate to have been able to see the inside. I REALLY wish you had spent some time on the ONLY remaining intact fireplace I saw. I think you were on the 2nd floor before you looked out over some type of patio outside a bedroom. It's a pitiful shame, all the destruction done to this home. It would take a miracle to save it & I don't see that happening. Thank you for sharing. If you go back PLEASE get video of that remaining fireplace. 🏰
You ever notice that in all these abandoned videos (BackyardExploration & urban explorers) there is always that 1 random chair in middle of a room LoL Thank you for sharing you have a new subscriber 😉
yeahriight57 It is very rare for these locations to be completely sealed for so many decades. What happens is that periodically squatters or others occupy this space and use the furniture. That annihilated upholstered chair for example was immediately next to graffiti. It could have been used for drug or gang activity at some point.
excrono I get that I was making an observational point, BECAUSE I find it odd that there is always 1 random chair in a room. It is a hallmark for abandoned locations...."wait for it, wait for it, THERE IT IS (the 1 random chair)"
Yes, I understand that, it seems rational that people using these buildings will leave furniture in functional locations. Vandals, squatters, and other occupants are the hallmark behind this phenomena in abandoned locations. There isn't anything odd about that. People are if anything, consistent in their chaos and destruction.
Dang this place I remember from back in the day growing up in Louisville and I remember seeing a female spirit in yellow in 1 of the Windows. Just clicking away on RU-vid and being tossed back to my younger days how cool is that.
Shameful is the only word I can think of to describe the condition of this magnificent mansion. I'm so glad to see that someone is going to restore it. I imagine it will take a lot of time and a whole lot of money but it will be worth it in the end.
it's a shame buildings are left to the elements like this. a home that was probably top of the line when first built, now is a ruin. people should really look into fixing old homes, and if you can't, take the donation to the city, county, state, or a charity that could maybe use it for a community center, children's workshop, or home/apartments for low income people. do that, instead of letting a building go to hell like this.i hate, hate hate, when someone looks at a building as only what i can get for it, and if i can't, to hell with it, and let it rot. a building is much more than money, it is a crafted emblem. work went into it, artistry went into it's design and execution, and is not just wood, stone and nails. it is the life put into it by the workers who created it. what a pity, in the US, old buildings are not taken care of and respected in the way they do in much older countries.
I didn't even know this place existed, and I've lived in Kentucky my whole life. Regardless, It's an absolutely breathtaking place. I asked my father about inquiring to visit it. He hasn't given an answer.
With the fireplaces, banisters and some moldings stolen already, along with the fact that the inside is beyond repair, you'd have to just gut the inside and start from scratch. The outside doesn't look too bad.
This place has had quite a bit of renovation done. A graphics company bought it for $1 with the promise to spend a million or so fixing it up. It's looking pretty good and I heard they were turning it into apartments? You should check out the video of my 1852 home here in Western Kentucky!
It's awesome. Weird, but I don't really think of mansions like this in KY for some reason. Too bad we couldn't see what it looked like when it was brand new and all furnished nicely. Such history.
This is the Querbacker mansion located in western Louisville, KY. It was built in the 1860's for coffee merchant Samuel Querbacker. It is one of the few remaining local examples of the Richardsonian Romanesque style of architecture. Is it actually be renovated and, if so, do you know by whom?
Somebody has some very deep pockets if there restoring this place. A crew with 100 people would take 10 years to make a dent in this place! I'd love to know the history behind this place.
+brenda mills We really only asked the Mexicans to take exterior photographs. Neither of us actually intended to go inside, but in the end decided what the heck
that is cool....are they going to tear it down? or fix it? looks like it would really cost a LOT of money to fix it up! I'm like you though i love things like that.
Sure is Beautiful on the outside, would take a fortune to redo the inside, if can be done.. Looked like equipment outside ready to demolish??? Great job, Thank You..
The filing cabinet/desk on the top floor with documents looks original to the last occupant of the home. It would have been fascinating to see what sort of records were still there, or at the very least, establish a date of last occupancy. My guess would be the mid 60s to early 70s, and I think that might be a bit too liberal (by quite a bit). Or one could just research country ownership records on this property...
The doors and molding, trim and wood are great! REPURPOSE/RECYCLE IT! Crap, I just paid $375 bucks for a wood medicine cabinet, which we put into our home's main bathroom (built in 1855)!!!!!! Somebody save that oak desk chair to! "History falls to parking lots & shopping malls"!
I have so many question every time I watch these kind of video, like who is the original owner , for what special purpose ? where are they now? why is abandoned? who are the engr. architect of this bldg.?
Random chair in the window again, guys outside probably heard your noises & thought spirit activity, were they part of the demo crew ? .. lol GREAT job guys...
It looked like they were renovating the place. And those guys said we could photograph the exterior. Or at least they nodded their heads and smiled when I pointed at my camera and then at the building... There was a bit of a language barrier haha
I actually searched the address found in the house; it's in Charlotte, North Carolina. After some searching, I found up to date images of the house on RU-vid; it still part of a neighborhood restoration and to be converted into condos -
***** I think he's talking about something else being in NC. But if not, I wouldn't be surprised because people like to spread misinformation on all of my videos. I think it makes them feel important or something.
BackyardExploration No - the phone number on the board in the house. I think it was the company who started restoration on the house and stopped or just the original realtors who owned the property. They were probably going to flip the house then realized how big a job it was. The house in the video is likely in KT like they always said it was -
+Nocturnal Mistress I know the house is in Kentucky, but the address found in the house goes to North Carolina. Do i have to repeat this for everyone who doesn't understand this?
Well, it is sad that this once wonderful mansion in such a run down condition. You can see signs of thefts, the stolen chimney mantles & missing wood paneling from walls in most of the rooms. All the old doors are missing and no furniture. I can only hope the city restores this place & reuses it for possible business or city use.
if someone calls the police on you, tell the cop youre just observing properties once owned by "we the people". it is our right to. if there is a "no trespassing sign" posted, the government is not allowed to take one step onto privately owned land. it is constitutionally unlawful. a little random knowledge for ya
Did anyone else notice there's a cemetery in the front of this house when he was jumping the gate and it's also on the side when they were up at the torrent this is creepy enough without being surrounded by 100s of dead people why would someone build such a fancy house right next to a cemetery that just seems very weird
BackyardExploration I just read that Oracle plan on turning it into apartments and they are looking at other historical buildings to do the same with which I think is awesome :)
JaydaHeartTV not all the way through, but ive had one leg up go through and got cut the fuck up, nice gash on shin took 28 stitches. but dont take my word for it, next time you see a rotted out floor, try it out for yourself
OMG - At 3:17 If I were you guys, I know it's stealing, but I would have grabbed all those papers & gone through them, fixed them up all nice, in a Scrapbook & Sent it Anonymously to the Kennedys or I would have 'come clean' & explained who I was & what I did (which is probably what I would have really done - yea, 'come clean'). Anyway, very cool video! Thanks for Sharing! ~ peace
+Nola West - I'm sooo bad... lol I can't believe I said what I wrote! Sorry guys, I'm not a bad person, really~~~lololol! It was just so frustrating to see all those documents strewn all over the place. How can people just do that with not a care in the world and destroy someone else's property. They were probably looking for money or treasures or just go into the file cabinet & throw paper all over the place for fun; "woo hoo"!!! OK, I'm back! I needed to vent my frustration - I guess I've watched too many non-sense videos of bad people today (NOT SAYING YOU GUYS ARE BAD...LOL!) NO, IT'S JUST SOME OTHER SHI-UFF I SAW EARLIER TONIGHT. I GUESS THIS IS TELLING ME LOUD & CLEAR TO JUST STOP! SO I WILL! GOOD NIGHT FROM NORTHERN CALIFORNIA! ~ PEACE
I don't know what it is, but that style of architecture really makes me feel unsettled. Aside from the old "haunted house" look, I mean. Even ones that are well kept and lived in...I just don't like it much.
