This is an excellent short tribute to these Karate Sensei Masters. I am proud to be Uchinanchu and that our ancestors have created a disciplined art that teaches one should not seek glory in beating up an opponent for the win attitude or prestige of medals and trophies. Karate is making the body & mind strong as one it takes a lifetime to achieve this. Our Ryukyu Buyo is based on many karate movements and the precision of the foot and hand movements to music. Okinawan karate and all the arts teach you to be humble. Hopefully the foreign students who learn this really know the essence of Ryukyuan art..

A very good demonstration of a great style. Unfortunately, difficult to find good dojos for this. I like their hand techniques very much and this demonstration shows the importance of this aspect in hand to hand combat. Thank you for uploading this short film, chrisvac!

Arepita Grande thank you 🙏🏻 It is indeed not easy to find good dojo’s with this level of technical skills and strong Spirit that adds up to the training. Okinawa is definitely the best place to go to train karate. I would love to love there one day. God bless

As a black belt in Uechi I can say I really enjoyed the journey. There were some benefits. After Uechi I moved on to boxing and BJJ. I can tell you I learned more useful things for actual combat in 6 months boxing BJJ than I did in 6 years Uechi. For karate styles I think it's the best. But still not what boxing and grappling will do for you in a fight . Toughen you up for sure

Any uechi stylist out there to answer my question? When narihiro Sensei is performing sanchin kata, what is that cracking noise coming from? His breathing? Etc
@chrisvac
@chrisvac 7 лет назад
He is closing his teeth tight since the exercise require to tense the whole body, some Senseis use this method also for their teeth/mouth

@underpartoday
@underpartoday 2 месяца назад
@kingalfred8719 Thank you for your question. I have studied Uechi Ryu since 1988 and I am a 3rd degree black belt in this beautiful art! The sound you hear during Sanchin is nothing more than the placement of the tongue against the back of one’s front teeth during breathing as a way to let the Sensei know you are breathing properly upon each exhale of air. The noise is the air exhalation from the mouth and the sound is magnified when the tongue is placed against the back of the front teeth. Breathing is from the diaphragm (hara/stomach) and NOT the chest. The stomach / lower abdomen must always be filled with air on exhale. Breathing is NEVER done from the chest like most westerners. For clarity: It is NOT caused by any grinding of the teeth as you may have read in other comments. (LOL!) Hope this helps! Cheers!

More in Uechi-Ryu than in Kyokushin or Muay-Thai? Funny enough there are many very old master who are still fit and healthy. I've been to a Uechi-Ryu class the head master is from Okinawa and is 80 years old. But sure I guess you are right

That is the issue with some traditional styles. I'd rather be able to destroy opponents fast and take down multiple. The focus should be on fighting. This is the issue with stuff like Kyokushin too but I know this style is much much better. Hopefully this video is just focusing on thos part and that when training they focused on the more important stuff like self defense.

What a load of horseshit that goes unchallenged for decades. Kick with the toe and hit with the bent thumb is just plain silly. And, of course, a lot of board breaking without showing the fragility of the boards.
